Well done, this should be required viewing for any newcomer (or old timer too!) great explanations and visuals! I have a number of “conversion” wagons that have a relex on 1 end and close coupler on the other for easy hook up to basically loco!

hello, a very nice video, the old sheet metal couplings in particular are very often bent on the used cars, I also ordered the coupling gauge 7001 to set my old couplings, greetings Kai👌👍😊

Thanks for another great instructive video !!! I now know why some of my newer cars with short couplers derail. The older ones with RELEX couplers seem to be much more forgiving, but I think I will adjust them all to make sure they uncouple properly.

Excelent presentation! One thing that we found out in our club, like you mentioned is that marklin couplers behave best when run with stock with similar or the same couplers. I agree wagon or coach maintenece is important if you want smooth and trouble free running.

Very nice overview as always!
I prefer classic Relex couplings on freightcars (45xx, 46xx etc.), whereas I will prefer short types on passenger cars. Like another comments, I find the Roco Universal coupling a little more versatile than Märklin KK.

I will bear in mind but unlikely as I only collect Märklin stuff. But you never know, things may change at some point. Thanks for the suggestion, keep them coming.
Enjoy your videos is there anyway you can make a video for wiring a basic marklin m track including turnouts and the like. The junction boxes and the color coated wiring etc just a newbie with an old set with no instructions
check one of the early layout 2021 videos... I stop to explain a few things here and there.
Thank you for the reply I’m just trying to understand the basics of wiring a small layout for my grandson. I have many m tracks some locos turnouts etc that I have collected over the years now that I’m retired I have the time to figure things out But the wiring confuses me for example do the plugs have to match the wires or is it a matter of where they go. I like marklin they are well made and designed but expensive to say. I know you only deal in this brand but I’m trying to pick up some freight and gondolas of other manufacturers like roco which are less expensive that might have couplers which can be used with my existing set. Thank you for your time I’ll keep watching

I have a set of TEE wagons that I absolutely love like the 4099. At some point along the way, some couplers got replaced by the E791570 coupler but the spring legs so to say are much longer. I tried to Google it and just cannot find those. Do you have a ref number or...something????
I know about those... These couplings were made for the early 27cm TEE coaches in the mid 70s, and only for a maximum of 5 years I believe. The reference was 701620 I think, and has been discontinued since the early 1980s, this would be an ideal candidate for a 3D printing project, but the easiest will probably be to find a similar car sold for parts...

Is these couplings the same as relex couplings? If so, are they able to be swapped with NEM couplings?

The automatic uncoupling was clearly not working at all with the last brand new short couplings I bought. I had to cut out the two "teeth" we can see at 15:46 because the loop was always stuck behind them when automaticaly uncoupled. Now, without this two teeth, the automatic uncoupling works perfectly. That is weird.
Certainly sounds weird, I have not seen the latest version of short couplings in the flesh yet. The "teeth" don't seem to have a purpose and they do no appear on side drawings looking at the web site. Could it be a manufacturing error? I would send an email to the official Marklin customer service (support page on the Marklin.de website) and see what they say about this. Thanks for sharing.
Zuerst sollte Märklin mal vor der Serienproduktion probieren, ob ihre Waggons nicht bei jeder Weichen-Kombination auf ihren Geleisen von diesen springen. In Verbindung natürlich mit ihren unzähligen Kupplungen! Dann verkaufen! Und nicht warten, bis die ersten Reklamation hereinkommen! In der EDV sagt man zu solchen Sachen: Bananensoftware - reift beim Benutzer :-) Sicher: die Geleise müssen sauber verleigt sein!
