For people who think Aylin went too far with the head smashing -
Remember, she was mutilated, tortured, experimented on, poisoned, toyed with, even killed and resurrected cuz she's an Aasimar who can't die, and with that, she was made to take, EVERY. SINGLE. HIT. That Kethric took FOR OVER A CENTURY.
That intro scene where he got an axe thrown into his body? Or the follow up neck chop by the goblin? Or Jaheira mentioning that she fired an arrow into his eye and he plucked it out? All of that was inflicted on Aylin. And she recovered each time because its in her blood to revive each time.

Do you remember the source of your information about the spell? I didn't read anything about her physically taking on the damage/pain dealt to Kethric.
@@Broketheair Probably just for fun. Based on whats transpired, its most likely that Ketheric placed her inside a formation which are able to share her immortality. Problem being it is weird how Immortality translates to Invurnerability ingame, which makes Ketheric literally wont take any single damage. Nightsong truly can't die by mortal means, an immortal yes. But she's not Invurnerable
@@vince4503that's the extra layer, Ketheric was only invulnerable because all the damage he took was redirected to Dame.
Mine was different. I tried to convince kethric that there’s a way to redeem himself but said it was too late and he let himself fall down and transformed to myrkul. And Aylin didn’t do anything to kthric’s dead body.
If Aylin was CC'd or far away enough, she doesn't appear in the cutscene.

god the myrkul scene is so damn good, probably one my favorites ones in gaming ever, his monologue sent shivers down my spine the first time i heard it.
Yeah just a tiny bit too easy. Should have been a bit stronger or a bit like the shadow curse, hauling undead at you like during the rescue of Thaniel.

@@joelquinn5347its easy cause he's basically phase 2 Ketheric. If you skip Ketheric first phase and let him commit dead, now thats a fun challenge. Tbh yeah, this fight is the most hyped fight ever, sadly with only measly 300 HP boss
Wish there was difficulty mod ABOVE tactitian. Myrkul avatara introduction goes unnecessary hard.
@@seeinred theres Tactician Plus on nexus that can give some encounters more difficulty. You can set some settings yourself if thats not even hard enough.
I love that Dame Aylin literally said "You're a hero and both Isobel and I will follow you. Now go so we can bone."
admirable restraint for someone who’s just reunited with their previously dead lover after being freed from a century of torment. i’m not sure i would’ve been able to wait that long
I love how Ketheric pauses to show that they can't succeed without him.
That 14:05 is how you introduce a villain in a video game.
This is the third most goosebump-inducing boss moment in the game, only slightly behind confronting the Absolute. If you've encountered #1, you know what it is.

Fun fact: Both Ketheric and Gortash have familiar voice actors. Ketheric is voiced by JK Simmons, who played, among others, J Jonah Jameson in the original Spider-Man movie, and Gortash is voiced by Jason Isaacs, who played Lucius Malloy in the Harry Potter series of movies.
My jaw was on the floor when Kethric transformed during my playthrough. The voice acting, the music, all top notch!!
Dude this game simply does not miss a beat... youre in a grove, dilemmas/drama/adventure. You are in a deep cave, Mysteries/Surprises/Adventure. You are in a cursed land, adventure/horror/drama.... it does not relent. Its like Elden Ring where the wonder to explore and see and understand things was always there but in a very introspective way. This game is the opposite in that sense, the wonder is just amplified by the shared experience with other players/viewers. This is the best game of this past decade, only other one i can think of that was this momentuos might have been The witcher 3.
Voice acting in this game is some of the best in any game. I really hope Esfand gets an opportunity to talk about it all after he finishes it!

So does Astarions (Check the temple collapse scene), So does Karlachs (check her scene when you kill Gortash), So does Raphaels (prob the best fight in the game), ahhhh fuck it, they all do... every performance in this is fantastic, you just cant see them all in a single playthrough.

it's interesting that Larian used Kintsugi on Aylin. The gold marks she has on her face/body is a technique used in japan to repair broken pottery by mixing gold and lacquer. So probably to show that she was tortured during hundreds of year, mentally and physically and repaired so she can suffer even more.
Noticed this too, felt incredibly fitting.
I accidentally made my main look a LOT like Aylin. Paladin too. Same hair, similar face/eyes/makeup, face scars... She's just more buff and wingy.
That was also the first thing I thought of. They even highlighted it by making it uneven. Probably triggered a couple of masters of the art. Aasimar have a golden streak to them but not this literally.

i've played the game for 200+ hours and i STILL get goosebumps everytime i hear Myrkul. It's just so fricking good dude.
this game is SOOOO GOOD, i wanna play so many builds and choose different sides/dialogue options even though i'm already at my 3rd playthrough.
God, this is one of my favorite setpieces in the game. The speech, the emergence of Myrkul's Avatar, all of it is worthy of a game's climax, and this is only the (almost) end of act 2!
Also, idk if you've already done it or not, but I strongly encourage bringing Lae'zel for the next events about to unfold (she has a lot of unique dialogue), but understand if you're set on your current party. Lol

I hate that myrkul is ridiculously easy too kill though. '1-rounding' the god of death is a let-down.
Also, I wanted that scythe! Even if it's too big to hold, it'd look awesome in camp :)
@@kathrynck I actually found the fight fairly tough and really engaging, especially with the constant bone chilling he kept hitting my party with.
@@Hagosha He does hit a bit hard, true. He's just very glass cannon.
He only got one swipe off when I fought him. and he hit a raven familiar and Scratch the dog. And then he got pulverized.
Some luck involved though, out of habit I focused down the adds first (a big fireball). Apparently he's supposed to consume those to heal himself? I didn't get to see that mechanic though. But even if his undead minions were left alone, at 225 hp, it's just too quick to bring him to zero hp.
Love his entrance though, incredibly cinematic. But for fight mechanics, I liked Raphael much better.
Hard to balance fights though. There's different prepared spells, gear/builds, party compositions, and even just the dice can make things a lot easier or harder.
Maybe better if he had more hp, tankier adds, and maybe if ketheric was a little tougher beforehand, so that the party has less top-tier abilities left in the magazine :)

I like how whenever dame goes HARD, showing how a real vengeance paladin behaves, Esfand looks shocked. Like yeah, this is why you are better off breaking your oath lmao. Vengeance Paladin goes hard.
Vengeance paladins are not oath breakers, Dame Aylin has not broken her oath at this point.

Love watching this run, but the way Esfand’s built Karlach breaks my heart 😭.
15:42 Multiclassing into war cleric is a good choice to avoid more of this kind of thing since you'll get at least 2 try using war charges and because Divine Smite doesn't expend Spell slot if it miss it's a good idea just to spam that, and on a plus note if you pick Selune as your goddess you get to have love-hate relationship with Shadowheart and gaslighting her is so much fun
I remember facing Myrkul the first time. I was a half-orc vengeance paladin 6/storm sorc 3 at the time of this fight. When Ketheric Thorm sacrificed his body to become the Avatar of Myrkul, my half-orc paladin's turn just so happened to be up next. I took one look at that guy and said "fuck this, he is going to die NOW." I went all in. Vow of Enmity, Luck of the Far Realms, Great Weapon Master, Bloodlust, Haste (Bloodlust and Haste were already up), Executioner Ring, Max level smites...... The avatar of Myrkul didnt last long enough to get a turn. All 225 hitpoints were gone by the end of my turn.
I love watching ppl kill Ketheric really easily then seeing the look on their face when they realise it’s not over 😂 such a good fight
Hot daym you finally did it! I'm honestly happy that this was only the end of act two though, it's been a blast to watch your playthrough and having almost half left, now that's the real blessing!

Aylin died in mine, my sorcerer went first and cast firewall, and then she flew straight into it and kept fighting in it. But then she reappears at my camp and says that she’s immortal.
paladin with 2 autocrits is so op here.
with the warlock paladin I actually killed it in 2 rounds just with TAV, 1 round for mr thorm, 1 for herr myrkul.
ignored the mind flayer and everything else.
So cool how the credits roll when you all die 😂😂 this game is on another level for alternate conversation paths, that actually have an impact. Just an incredible game! My first time playing turn based and thought I wouldn't get on with it, 70hrs later it's fast becoming one of the best games I have ever played.
You can try to go to Baldurs Gate early. But you all die and it’s game over. There’s a massive army blocking the way.

I’m sure someone has said it by now but Wyll does have dialogue when they infect his dad; It’s pretty stupid though, he yells “NO.. FATHER!” At the top of his lungs in a giant cave that clearly echos voices and yet no one hears him😂
I had a serious LOL moment when I played through this. I literally said, "Oh shit" seconds before Shadowheart said "Shit".

When I did this fight he ate a necrophyte and targeted Wyll with Finger of Death and the counterspell prompt came up. That was by far the most clutch moment I've had

If you have someone stuck up on top but downed, you can use another character to shove them off the platform then heal/help them back up.

There’s actually a badass rapier to be had right at the beginning here if Wyll is in your party… as I understand it. I’ve only really brought him along for his story related quests and didn’t realize there was loot to be had bringing him into the “gooey part with the brains”. Next play through I will after I get that robe from the bard chick.

First time I did this fight I was so badly off just getting Kethric downed, then that fecker emerges. Almost lost Aylin just managed to kill it with my main girl Karlach doing the business.

I was able to beat this fight using the ring that you get from Ketharic when you first fight him! It has "command undead" on it and I commanded Lord Myrkul to drop his scythe with a 20% chance and it was perfect! He couldn't do anything to me!

You know, you can use divine smite as a reaction... ON a hit (or even specifically on a crit) ...so you don't waste spell slots on missing smites.
It's kinda the main thing about a paladin. Only time you'd want to cast smite up-front, is if you have a specific need to use a type of smite other than divine-flavor, OR if you've already used your reaction that turn (generally don't use reactions when hit, just take the hit and save your reactions for smites). Pretty much _always_ apply any max level smites _only_ with reactions.
Myrkul intro scene was soooo good! wasn't it? Really, _really_ weak though for a god. 225 health?? Even a badly coordinated/geared attack kills him in 1 round.
(if you ever let Gale die, you'd better rez him at camp within 2 long rests. His body is holding a nuke in check.)
Smite doesn't consume a spell slot if you miss, so esfand isn't "wasting" anything. Maybe learn how the game works before lecturing people?

But i try to really get as much mileage as I can out of my 6 spell slots for smites (I have 5 levels in warlock, so I have less blue spell slots). Never noticed divine smite doesn't consume on a miss, just never risked it hehe.
I did try some of the other smites on radiant-resistant targets. I guess that could be why I thought divine smite would be wasted if you miss.
Still like saving the higher level spell slots for crit hits though :) Especially since far-realms means I'll always get at least 1 free crit per long rest, and there's always another 1 or 2 just with dice per long rest.
Does nobody read tooltips? It literally says it only eats the slot on a hit.

Unfortunately isobel got captured by Kethric in my run and was evil and it wouldn’t let me save her. Even after killing Kethrick she died. So I never got any interactions with Dame Aylin and Isobel

If you bring Will with you, you can persuade Mizora to give you a reward (a rare rapier). I always bring Wyll just to get it.

Since I had a monk with many hits per round I wrecked the avatar of Myrkul incredibly quickly.
As cool as Thorm's fight was, it just gets better.

Paladin is the most created class in the game
My main's a Pali-lock. great weapon master, giant slayer sword, gloves for 23 Str, pact weapon on it, 22 charisma with a hat... very fun!
only thing more fun in my camp is Shadowheart in tempest/storm spec playing wet lightning goddess (heals? what are those?)
