How I use youtube so it's not "social media": I got a comment from someone who wants to post content on youtube but doesn't want to consume it. I will post my advice here in case other people are interested: 1. Use a chrome extension called UnTrap. It's on desktop for free but paid in the app store. It lets you filter youtube. 2. Use UnTrap to filter out shorts, recommended videos, 'up next', the comment section etc. You can remove pretty much everything. 3. (optional) Desaturate all thumbnails by 50%, you'll notice how bright and eye catching they are when this feature is turned off. 4. Post your content, do what you need to do to run/manage your channel. Or just enjoy curated youtube. Hopefully this helps fellow creators or people trying to limit their screen time! I should've addressed this in the video, but I didn't think about it. Live and learn :) Note on 01/17/25: I've changed the title of the video to include the fact that I deleted social media apps off of my phone. You can't make everyone happy on the internet lol
Wow, thank you so much for this recommendation! I already know that this is going to save me so much time. I can't see an option to desaturate thumbnails, though - is this only available on the Pro version? :)
It should be available in the free version as well. In the drop down menu, select video item, under the thumbnail section, there is a setting called shade of gray for thumbnails, you should be able to set it from there
I just deactivated both my FB and IG account, deleted twitter, and never been into tiktok. I honestly feel so peace. Yes! Do that! I wasted my entire 20s on social media and I’m turning 30 in September and just starting to delete Facebook, and minimize other social media I use. I want it to mean something. I’m done with things that are a mindless waste of time.
deleting social media change me as a person and it gives me the real state of living in a peaceful far from competition negative people and only me and my self
I'm going in week 3 without social media in little to no phone time. The first few days were the hardest but now I just feel normal. Im embracing being bored which feels better than being overstimulated by the noise on social media
This is such a wonderful, calming and peaceful video and also important for me. I just deleted all these social media apps and can already feel my inner peace again. No more waisting time on other peoples life. No more stress and no more any kind of men lying the blue from the sky to me. I wanna learn to meet new people outside not on the inside of my phone. I wanna live again. Waisted too much time on it. Thank you! 😍🍀🌿🍃☁🌞

Social media did not even exist when I was your age. You are not missing out on anything that is essential to your survival or psychological well being. Do not let the current bit of slang "Touch Grass" remain an ironic refrain of the 'terminally online'. It is good advice for everyone.
I am so indentified with your speak. I begun using Social Media in 1997 with mIRC and have used almost every new platform since then. After 27 years, I quit social media: now I just watch RUclips (btw: for me it isn't social media, I think it is more like an audiovisual difusion channel) and stopped fooling myself thinking somebody is really interested in my thoughts or life. I always say goodbye before quitting a platform, and almost every reply says "oh, I want to do the same but I can't"... Well, you can do it, and trust me: noone is gonna miss you. And if someone does miss you, social media will make them forget you. Oh, and by the way: your spanish is just fine!!! Sigue así!! saludos desde Santiago, Chile, Sudamérica!
Totally agree with what you said about how no one will really notice when you leave. Depending on who you ask, RUclips is a social media but I think it can be a tool if you can use it wisely, so now it's only on my computer. Glad my Spanish isn't too bad lol thanks for the comment :)
All of this resonates with me. I also wasted my 20s on social media and being about to turn 30 in a few months im feeling a major shift and I’m unplugged from most social media. The media I’m using I’m trying to use in a mindful and meaningful way. I only have instagram for posting about what I’m reading and what my thoughts are on the books I’m reading. I deleted my other instagram accounts. I’m deleting Facebook. I’m unsubscribing from RUclips channels that dont bring value into my life or teach me something. I’m just seeing social media in a whole new light lately.
I went through something similar as well! I only have youtube left but it depends on how you use it for sure. I'm trying to be more intentional and not get stuck scrolling on here. I also unsubbed from a lot of people to because 9 out of 10 times, I wasn't interested anymore.
Great video. Gave it up a few years ago too. ‘If you don’t pay for the product, you are the product’. You hit the nail on the head about allowed yourself to be bored. Kids are constantly occupied these days and adults are too. My moments of greatest inspiration have come when I’m bored or at a loose end. If you fill that time with a phone, it’ll never happen.

I love this! I am on a hiatus from social media and mostly use RUclips because I love videography/editing. College life has consumed most of my life anyway for me to post and I’m not so much concerned about posting pointless content. I want to make content that matters and LIVE.
Janie, thank you so much for posting this video. Every word echoes my sentiments exactly. Life is too short and NO ONE will ever look back to reminisce on screen time. Wonderful work!
I’ve watched a few videos on here regarding quitting social media & yours is honestly the best I’ve come across. Resonate with everything. It feels good to log off & simply be. Thank you for sharing.
Dude you’re so adorable :) I’m 36 & have been fantasizing about this forrrrrrrrrevvvvvvverrrrrr!! Elder millennial here-have been “online” since my preteen years! 😅 I’m just exhausted. Can’t tell you how many videos I’ve watched over the years about quitting social media. Love everything about your video, the vibe and your authenticity! Think your video was the last little push I needed-you just gained a sub :) Appreciate you!
"I don't care." My experience exactly. I don't care if my friends spam the latest memes to me over IG, or if that girl I'm pining for doesn't return my texts (oh well). I don't care if a troll decides to talk crap about my videos, or if anyone even watches them. Heck, I don't even care if a work colleague hates my guts. I just... don't. There are few things in life I care much for, and the opinions of others is not one of them. Quitting social media a few months ago made me realise that, because nothing clarifies your thought processes as much as seeing an empty notification bar. Admittedly, it is a little sad. But I would rather have it this way than live a delusional, self-obsessed life.
I love this. I’ve been doing this and growing in my spiritual relationship with Jesus Christ. I’ve found myself interested even the more in deep conversations with real people. RUclips I guess I don’t consider social media like Facebook/ IG / Twitter - and also I was so annoyed by ppl in the comment section lol now look at me. Those ppl knew something I’m learning now as a 28 year old first time mom. It’s beautiful on this side especially as mom being able to instill these values into my son.
Absolutely phenomenal video. Amazing execution, amazing message, editing, filming, and overall quality. This video needs so much more traction it may also help others maybe break free a bit. Great work Janie!
Your video popped out on my yt timeline and I watched it out of curiosity, glad I watched it! Your words are comforting and you seem like such a wise person, I wish you the best, lots of love 💌🌷
cute video! i also don't have any social media except for youtube (which is already time consuming). I just stopped using youtube shorts and found a way to block them. I still spend more time than i wish here, but it's nice to at least have my attention focused on something that lasts more than 30 seconds. and honestly watching sims 4 builds and cute videos is already better than mindless scrolling instagram or watching who's getting cancelled on twitter. All my social media had 2 factor authentication and when my phone was robbed i realized it's actually kind of nice not to see anything on the internet. I wasn't able to use them on my computer either so after day 2 I was already convinced it was much better this way
I relate to the Sims 4 video watching, I just like watching people design stuff lol RUclips isn't all bad but it can be hard to cut down. I only use it from my computer now so I can remove shorts and other distractions with chrome extensions. But I agree, it's a lot better to just not use it at all.
Thanks for making me subscribe your channel. You really explained it all too well. Lately I'm going through some stuffs and I deleted all of the apps which was taking away my time to clear my head. I also thought it would've been better if RUclips can be uninstalled too. But now I feel thankful that it can't be removed, cause that's the reason I met you. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Wishing you all of the happiness. Hope we all can experience this peaceful and happy life ♡
Welcome! I still keep youtube around, but I try to use it with more intention from now on. Thanks for the kind comment, wishing you the best as well :)
Wow! This showed up on my dashboard! Have you watched Perfect Days? Your video reminded me of it! And I agree on all your points! 💖 I deleted my social media for two years and got back when just recently. Everything feels intentional more and I can even leave my phone at home when I don't need it. Most creative ideas come from boredom because our minds are free to think and not be constantly bombarded by distraction. Keep it up!
So well filmed. Best of luck on your no social media journey. I too feel more present and free. Gained so much time since I removed the apps! Also thanks for your ‘untrap’ google extension recommendation. Going to be using that to get rid of the shorts😅
@@janieisbored this is the thing, I’ve always complained to my friends saying that I wish apps just allowed us to disable this stuff. Instead, people are being pushed to remove entire apps. If I’m Instagram I was able to disable stories, reels, and the explore page, I would potentially keep it. Big emphasis on potentially. But instead, all of that just makes me feel more disconnected if anything. I’ve managed to uphold good self discipline so far of not watching reels on RUclips but JHEEZ sometimes one’s just on my screen. So I have to remove from watch history and click not interested in all of them recommended in the hope they will disappear more. There’s definitely more of a sense of community on here, and more of a hopeful algorithm !sometimes! For example your lovely video being in my recommended. Thanks again Janie. You take care xxx
I deleted all mines the accounts today name it Snapchat and insta and Facebook it’s really disturbing and your video just motivated me thanks your the best
This is the first video of you I saw, but I'm also commenting on it since it is the most recent one. I want to say/write so many things but I'll try to focus on the most important points: 1. I think it's wonderful and awful at the same time how many (young) peoople are trying to escape social media and smart phones but realize it is not that easy in our day and age. I myself struggle with this and find myself getting nostalgic to the point where I feel like I can't be content in this (western/globalized) age. I know the last centuries weren't better or happier, it's just a feeling. 2. For the longest time I tried to find people who were exactly like me in different aspects. I'm in the process of realizing and understanding that we are all unique, but what we share is connection. I feel like I connect to to you or at least to your content since you're my age, think/talk about a lot of the things I think about and just create beautiful video essays. I really look forward to your future videos. Well, I hope my points come across. (Feels good to leave a comment I thought about for more than 10 seconds. I think I'm starting to understand slow living on the internet...)
1. Yeah it's 100% true, there's no real escape anymore unless you get a flip phone or something, but even then, we have computers. 2. I'm glad you find my content relatable, I try to make videos on random stuff I think about so it's really nice to hear that other people are thinking the same things. Thanks for leaving such a nice comment! I appreciate you sharing your thoughts :)
Hello. I have just found your channel. I also couldn't be sure to delete social media 🙃 but now i know. 😊 thank you. Your video is so calming and meaningful. I am very happy that I've found you. ☺️ keep going ❤🎉
asides from youtube and webtoon and some other reading apps, i've actually been off and uninterested in social media 🙀 so i never got into tiktok since i found it uncomfortable. i had a few social media apps that were absolutely killing me in the past. i'd spend 10 literal hours on that single app. which is wild. i used to be a maniac on instagram too, but i found out that after scrolling mindlessly, i'd feel guiltier and it makes me blame myself. so i limit myself to 20 minutes per day and on most days i don't open it at all! yes, my colleagues are still dragging me around and saying "let's do this one trend!" or "let's film [tiktok]!" and i'd genuinely have no idea what it's about and i'm seriously embarrassed, but that's okay? i think that's okay. people would borrow my phone and literally ask me "you have nothing on your phone. what the hell do you do all day?" but that's okay too. i'd just feel incredibly awkward but laugh it off with a joke.
Best thing i ever did was deleting Instagram. And if it wasn't for my music and RUclips channel, i wouldn't even have Facebook in the first place. Had a girl stood me up and even after she blocked me, she threatened me and had to call the cops. Outside of music, i stay away from social media
Children need help dealing with social media addiction. Those who created social media, did so knowing the damage caused to children... Accountability....is coming.
The thing is I want to delete all these messages in Discord, Instagram and I think RUclips and Tiktok, I regret oversharing and how I typed and what I wrote every single day, I have online close friends in discord and I don't know if I can quit the server they mean a lot to me, but at the same time I want to focus on my life to get the things that I want and live in non-fiction. I don't know what to it's been 16 years and now I'm 18 I feel like I wasted my life and forgot completely about my childhood's memories.
You don't have to quit completely if it means a lot to you. I'm sure there's a balance you can find that will let you focus on your life and still keep contact with your friends. Starting out with time limits on apps helped me a lot in the beginning. Do what you think is best.
Respect bro! Its really a relief living without social media. Its difficult sometimes especially at the beginning but its really worth it! One quiestion how do you make these videos? With your Phone or a Camera? Really good videos!!
Hello bro i had just one more quiestion. When you film yourself when youre sitting. Do you use the front camera or the back camera of the phone? Appreciate you and keep doing youre thing💯💯
The hardest social media for me to quit was tiktok. It was by far the most addicting and i was on it every single day. It consumed me and made me miserable. I haven't been on it for a month now and it has improved my mental health so much.
@@janieisbored we are our worst critics lol There's always something to tweak and do different or a tiny bit more advanced. If this is where you are at now I'm genuinely excited to see where you are in 12 months
I left Facebook in January this year and decided to just take a 2-week break from Instagram. Ten days into it now and I don't miss it very much. I like being at one with my own thoughts and not have to see post after post of everyone else's "fabulous life." And I do more reading. I'm okay.
I deleted social media off my phone and it’s so freeing, I’m reading books again and doing stuff around the house I’ve been putting off. Even my mind is clearer because I’m not consuming so much stuff all day
I've deleted social media, and I've been fine other than being bored sometimes. I had to limit my screen time because of my eyes (serious problem) due to using my phone or screens for 7 hrs a day. Now, maximum 2 hrs or 2 and a half (because sometimes I have work and plannings). I only have RUclips and WhatsApp for work mainly. I've realised I have alot of time.
This is me too, like i post everything and then I noticed that people don't really care about the things I/we do. They just click and scroll and move on to another post, that's the time I realized It's ok if I disappear from social media because again, no one cares. 🎉
this video resonated with me. it has been a while since I got quite ambivalent towards social media but i feel i can't take the big step and delete them once and for all 🙈 I also have to say that i like the video edit apart from the content of the video 👌
Glad it resonated with you! If social media brings you joy in some ways, then you don't have to do anything. Thanks for the kind words, glad you liked the edit too :)
I feel like a few people are more honest on social media than people I know in real life. I try to call someone and their busy with this that & the other. I pull up TikTok and a person I like shares what's been bothering them for 10 whole minutes. I don't know, sometimes I just have to wait until someone does answer when it's "just me".✌🏻Because most Tiktokers don't wanna respond. They have real friends too.
That's an interesting pov, I'm sure there's lots of people who use social media to just vent. There's also the anonymity of the internet so I think people are more comfortable sharing their honest thoughts knowing a bunch of people they don't actually know irl will watch it. There's also an amount of people who can be fake too. Thanks for the comment!
Idk, I just woke up one day and decided I didn't care anymore. Im 21 and I still have so many amazing life experiences that have yet to get here and If I don't live for me who will? And also the pretending just so other ppl can like you, went straight out the window. I am a grown a$* man what I look like pleasing the next b*? Like c'mon let's be so fr, I quite frankly don't care and yes it's liberating and exciting to feel free.😌 Haven't felt like this since I was a kid.
it’s been a week since i last got on tiktok, instagram, twitter i wanna go back just because of the feeling of comfort and familiarity since i’m not used to this change but i’m resisting and trying to focus on my betterment and growth, it’s honestly so so hard
Love u, eres muy valiente, actualmente llevo cuatro años sin redes sociales ( excepto RUclips claro😅) pero estoy por animarme a dar el paso y comprar un teléfono con teclas 🎉
its harder to delete soc med esp messenger or whatsapp because of work and also since working abroad away from family and friends, its the only way to communicate with them...Self control basically is the only thing i can think of to avoid wasting time in soc med...
If it's what you need to communicate with those close to you, then keep it. I just decided to get rid of it because it didn't bring me happiness. Good on you for having self control, it was really hard for me to keep that up
I don’t have social media till now I am 21years now but I am addicted with RUclips and porn addiction 😢don’t know how to overcome this situation till now .

Blessings to you 😊❤
how do you only have 196 subscribers? your videos are amazing!
Thank you! I'm glad you like them!
Absolutely phenomenal video. Amazing execution, amazing message, editing, filming, and overall quality. This video needs so much more traction it may also help others maybe break free a bit. Great work Janie!
Thank you so much, that's very kind. I didn't expect the video to do this well but I'm glad that it's helping people!
Your video popped out on my yt timeline and I watched it out of curiosity, glad I watched it! Your words are comforting and you seem like such a wise person, I wish you the best, lots of love 💌🌷
Wow thank you so much , I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I meditated for three hours over the weekend. I’ve been off socials for a month. It’s the best thing I’ve done in five years.
I support your ability to make this choice. Social media is evil nowadays.
I quit 11 years ago...so many things outside of social media. I'm glad I quit no regrets.....
cute video! i also don't have any social media except for youtube (which is already time consuming).
How did you block shorts?
The chrome extension I use is called UnTrap, you can filter out basically everything. It's also in the app store but it's paid
Off topic but this video is so cinematic and edited so well!! 😍
Not off topic at all, the cinematic stuff is what I'm going for. Glad you noticed, thank you! :)
I love the cameramovement/placements
Keep it up!
I've never heard of that movie, but I'll have to look it up. Thanks for the recommendation! :)
So well filmed. Best of luck on your no social media journey. I too feel more present and free. Gained so much time since I removed the apps! Also thanks for your ‘untrap’ google extension recommendation. Going to be using that to get rid of the shorts😅
Hi Daisy, glad I was able to help. RUclips is so much better without shorts tbh
I want to say/write so many things but I'll try to focus on the most important points:
I'm 36. Btw 11 years ago when I deleted my Facebook and it was the best decision I've ever made on that day!
That's awesome! I wish I did it sooner
great video!! such fun video shots and storytelling too, looking forward to future videos
Thank you so much!
So beautiful, I love how you said you start to notice things more.
Thanks! Noticing things more is one of the benefits of unplugging, I think
WHAT EXACTLY ARE WE MISSING OUT ON!!!
Keep creating, you're really an inspiration to me
Thank you, that's so nice!
thank you for making this video and sharing your experience.
Hello. I have just found your channel. I also couldn't be sure to delete social media 🙃 but now i know. 😊 thank you. Your video is so calming and meaningful. I am very happy that I've found you. ☺️ keep going ❤🎉
Thanks! I appreciate the kind words.
Very nice insight. Happy to discover your channel. Thanks for sharing this and keep sharing more!
Thank you, I will :)
asides from youtube and webtoon and some other reading apps, i've actually been off and uninterested in social media 🙀 so i never got into tiktok since i found it uncomfortable. i had a few social media apps that were absolutely killing me in the past. i'd spend 10 literal hours on that single app. which is wild. i used to be a maniac on instagram too, but i found out that after scrolling mindlessly, i'd feel guiltier and it makes me blame myself. so i limit myself to 20 minutes per day and on most days i don't open it at all!
yes, my colleagues are still dragging me around and saying "let's do this one trend!" or "let's film [tiktok]!" and i'd genuinely have no idea what it's about and i'm seriously embarrassed, but that's okay? i think that's okay. people would borrow my phone and literally ask me "you have nothing on your phone. what the hell do you do all day?" but that's okay too. i'd just feel incredibly awkward but laugh it off with a joke.
Thank you for this
That's awesome, I'm glad it helped. Thanks for the sub, I appreciate it. Also shoutout to midnight gospel from your profile pic! lol
I love this video so much. It has given me some of the motivation to delete social media💗
You got this!
Hi Steff, I film using a Sony ZV1, occasionally I use an iPhone as well. Thanks for the support!
@@janieisbored Thanks🙏🏽
Hello bro i had just one more quiestion. When you film yourself when youre sitting. Do you use the front camera or the back camera of the phone? Appreciate you and keep doing youre thing💯💯
The hardest social media for me to quit was tiktok. It was by far the most addicting and i was on it every single day. It consumed me and made me miserable. I haven't been on it for a month now and it has improved my mental health so much.
I tried tiktok for literally a day and couldn't stand it, there's just too much going on at once. Glad you got off of it and you're feeling better! :)
this is beautiful from the message to your personality which shines in the presentation of your video
Thank you, Cristina. That's so kind! I often think I'm too stiff on camera, glad to know that my personality can still come out lol
@@janieisbored we are our worst critics lol There's always something to tweak and do different or a tiny bit more advanced. If this is where you are at now I'm genuinely excited to see where you are in 12 months
I love your videos so much
Greatest video of all time right here 💯❤️
I left Facebook in January this year and decided to just take a 2-week break from Instagram. Ten days into it now and I don't miss it very much. I like being at one with my own thoughts and not have to see post after post of everyone else's "fabulous life." And I do more reading. I'm okay.
That's great to hear! 2 weeks isn't easy, so good for you for making it to 10 days. Reading more is always a plus :)
This was 🔥💯 I agreed with everything you said!!!
Split Personality is the main reason why I quit social media
this video resonated with me. it has been a while since I got quite ambivalent towards social media but i feel i can't take the big step and delete them once and for all 🙈
I also have to say that i like the video edit apart from the content of the video 👌
YOU GO GURL I hate social media too!!
Hi,
I did all this yesterday and I feel at peace.
I'm happy for you, that's great to hear!
Great video, love it!
I LOVE THIS!
Great video & Very inspiring! 🩷
Spot on!
This is so relatable 😌
Love this video!
Your accent is pretty good! Keep it up 😊
Thanks, it still needs work though lol
This is the life that I want once I get a financial stablity.
Best laid plans.
One can life outside of the Globalist's corrupt and manipulated monetary system....
Same here its not worth it anymore
thank you. i needed this
very insightful video. Your accent is really good, btw. ;)
it’s been a week since i last got on tiktok, instagram, twitter i wanna go back just because of the feeling of comfort and familiarity since i’m not used to this change but i’m resisting and trying to focus on my betterment and growth, it’s honestly so so hard
It's hard at first but you'll get used to it, hopefully you're still going strong! Be proud you're trying to make a change :)
I got off social media and life was great. Then I got back on. I just deleted the app of my phone again. Wish me luck
22 now and quit it last year
Awesome!
Love u, eres muy valiente, actualmente llevo cuatro años sin redes sociales ( excepto RUclips claro😅) pero estoy por animarme a dar el paso y comprar un teléfono con teclas 🎉
Now i have only RUclips
its harder to delete soc med esp messenger or whatsapp because of work and also since working abroad away from family and friends, its the only way to communicate with them...Self control basically is the only thing i can think of to avoid wasting time in soc med...
If it's what you need to communicate with those close to you, then keep it. I just decided to get rid of it because it didn't bring me happiness. Good on you for having self control, it was really hard for me to keep that up
Thank you for this insightful video 😊
I don’t have social media till now I am 21years now but I am addicted with RUclips and porn addiction 😢don’t know how to overcome this situation till now .
It’s fantastic .
i'm glad i found you 🌟
Thank you so much for this ❤
incredible! i love this so much.
Thank you, that's so nice!
I shifting from my
Smartphone to a normal keypad phone
I did the same thing 2 years ago
My life became better😂
