*Angelina Jordan*
- Angelina Jordan was born Jan 10 2006 in Oslo, Norway. She is currently 16
- She began singing at the age of one and a half
- At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and started studying all the greats from Jazz history with youtube videos.
- *Why Angelina always sings barefoot* - When Angelina was 6 years old, she was traveling with her family and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. They talked for a while and discussed their dreams. It was cold and the girl had scars on her feet. Seeing this, Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to the girl. The girl thanked her and told Angelina she would pray for her every day. That day Angelina made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public, she sings barefoot as a way to remember that little girl and to remind us that there are less fortunate people in the world that could use our help.
Angelina holds so true to this promise that she has sung outdoors in Norway, in december... barefoot. She has sung at a dinner with ex-pres Obama... barefoot. She went on AGT (possibly the biggest stage in the world)...bare foot. She made a promise at 6 years old, and has stuck strong to it for years. That takes a special kind of person.
- She has always been the driving force behind her own singing career. It was her that asked her mother to take her to Norways Got Talent, where she auditioned at 7 years old and went on to win the whole show at just 8 years old.
- In an interview after the show, when asked what she was going to do with the prize money, the 8 year old replied, "I would like to give it to orphans that need clothes and shoes"
- When Angelina was 9 years old she became the youngest published author in Norway, when she wrote a book about the story of why she doesn't wear shoes when she sings. She donated proceeds from the sales of the book to help children in need.
- The reason you may not have heard of her is because her parents are very protective of her childhood. After she won NGT, they did not want her to be thrust into stardom before she had a chance to grow up as a normal child, and get her education. They allowed her to do a few select shows (mainly private and charity events) with a couple public shows every year when she is out of school. Her mother said in an interview that they have turned down 90% of the offers that came in. Over the years since NGT, they have turned down offers from many major record labels and even disney.
- Angelina has covered more than 160 songs and over 70 artists. She always selects the songs herself... everything ranging from old classic jazz to modern pop. She is able to change her voice to match any song she sings and make it her own. (she can cover Amy Winehouse, Lana del Rey, and Adele like nobody else)
- Angelina has collaborated with some very big names over the last few years... Quincy Jones, Mark Ronson, David Foster, Alan Walker and many more. All of which heard her and were blown away by her talent.
- Angelina has written five of her own original songs: "What is Life", "Shield", "Oslo", "Million Miles", and "7th Heaven" (all are amazing...all can be found on youtube)
- On Aug 26, 2020 Angelina's Manager/Uncle announced in an interview that they have decided on Republic Records as the best fit for Angelina and she is now signed with them as their "highest priority new artist".
In summary, Angelina Jordan is destined to be one of the greatest singers to have ever lived. This is just my opinion, but if you listen closely to any of her stuff you will hear the greatness. She sings with a natural style. There is no acting, no showing off, there are no unnecessary runs, or big belty notes just for the purpose of saying "hey look at me sing". She once said "when I sing I go into a beautiful world in my head", and you can always hear the results of that. When Angelina sings it is pure soul, pure emotion, pure music.

There is no one like Angelina. I'm not sure there ever has been. She is also a remarkable human being, as you'll soon discover. Good luck in your discovery of this marvel of a girl. She is now 16 and stunning. .😎
She was 7 when entered Norway got Talent and 8 when she won. She was 9 when she did I Put A Spell On You. So there is a a bit over a year between the two performances. With I Put A Spell On You she also did a bunch of the arrangement. The sheet she gives at the beginning are some last minutes changes she called her list of wishes.
Amy is one of her inspirations. Others are Billie, Ella, Etta, Frank, Queen, Adele, Michael, Aretha, the Beatles, Elvis, Whitney and also more contemporary artists such as Labyrinth, Sam Smith, Lana Del Rey and Rihanna.
There is a beautiful reason why she goes barefoot: when she was 6 she gave away her shoes to a poor street girl. Even since, she has performed barefoot to raise awareness for poor children.

It is a humanitarian reason for the shoe less❣ performances......She wrote a book at the age of 9 (?) why she is barefoot. I am also addicted and love to watch new reviewers discover Angelina. Angelina began recording at the age of 6. She was 7 for the 'Gloomy Sunday' audition, 9 for the 'I Put a Spell on You' recording, 10 for both the 'Fly Me to the Moon' acoustic video and 'Back to Black'. Finally, she was 13 for 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' on AGT. This was fun Rosalie. Of the three performances of Angelina's that I know that went viral, you got through 2 of them and have the third one lined up in your sights: Bohemian Rhapsody. Angelina had not quite turned 8 at the time of her Gloomy Sunday performance that you showed here; 9 years and 2 months when she laid down the track for 'I Put A Spell On You:' and she was 13 when she perform Bohemian Rhapsody - AGT Champions edition. (She won Norway's got talent.) I checked your catalog of reactions on your RUclips channel. I wasn't getting a clear vibe what kind of performance would appeal to you, exactly. When you react to Bohemian Rhapsody gives us some ideas of what your interests might be, and I'm sure you'll get a lot of suggestions. You'll get a lot of suggestions anyway if you just want to leave to Angelina's fans to direct you. You will probably be inundated with comments to this reaction about Angelina's background, some of them even encyclopedic. Welcome to the amazing world of Angelina Jordan. We call her our Barefoot Princess, and we also call her The Girl of A Thousand Voices. She learned from the jazz greats (Holiday, Fitzgerald, Sinatra) and has developed a way of "tuning" her voice to the song she's performing. You'll also want to keep a box of tissues handy, because she WILL eventually reduce you to tears. She has the unique ability to not just sing the notes of a song, but to sing the emotions of the song as well. It may be a cover of a song you've heard a thousand times, but you never realized what the song means until you hear Angelina sing it. And she doesn't just do covers. She's writing her own songs, and has since she was 10 or 11 years old. You've fallen down a rabbit hole with this girl, but there are hundreds of her "Angels" already here ready to welcome you.

Small details she was 7 at her audition and second performance (I'm a fool to want you accapella, ) at Norway got talent then 8 when she performed the 2 last songs (Bang Bang and Summertime). I hope you get to those too in time they're awesome and short so you could even watch them all together.
Her AGT audition is a very good choice as she uses it to showcase her voice and the arrangement she does of the song is very special.
After that you have around 150 videos of covers and her 5 originals to go through, I'll give you some links but I can't give you all my favorites because there are too many. I gave up even trying to keep it a top 20 a couple of months ago, how will I manage when she's 30 or 40 I don't know :p

As for why she performs barefoot it's because of a very touching story of her meeting a poor young girl on the streets who had no shoes when she was 6. She gave the girl her shoes and since then performs barefoot until all the kids of the world have shoes.

Very simply, Angelina is the best singer I’ve ever heard. I’m in my seventies and followed music all my life. No one has the voice, the musicality, and the delivery of Angelina. She is truly once in a lifetime-and I’ve heard all the great popular singers. You heard two bluesy songs today, but Angelina covers five or six genres authentically, beautifully. If you want to hear one of the best jazz voices ever, watch her recent cover of My Funny Valentine. Or watch her just released cover of Elvis’s Suspicious Minds to see how Angelina can stun you with her ability to make an iconic song completely her own. But if you’ve listened to Bohemian Rhapsody, you already know that. There are way too many recommendations. Just start listening-any age, any genre.

One of my favorite Angelina's performance is her cover of Rhiana's Stay. She elevates that song, gives that song that relatable feeling that is lacking in the original.
Stay is fantastic. Angelina and a guitar. The emotion she conveys is unmatched. I think she was 11 or 12. Highly recommended.

IMHO she is the best female singer I have ever heard (& I'm 72 :). She is able to reinterpret & perform very well known songs in a way that allows us to hear & feel them in a way we never did before. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman.
Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on RUclips. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran.
Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.
*Why Angelina always performs barefoot*
At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes.
Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East.
Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old.
At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried.
Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience.
In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them.
In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists.
When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”.
Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on RUclips went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old.
In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration.
Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14.
At age 9, Angelina recorded a music video covering the 1956 Jay Hawkin’s classic, “I Put a Spell On You”. The video begins by showing Angelina writing her “wishes” for how she wants to perform the song. Angelina has always created her own arrangements for her cover songs.
At age 10 and just a week before her 11th birthday, Angelina recorded a demo of “I’m Still Holding Out for You”. Her family never pursued having that recording officially released but someone leaked it on a RUclips video. Thankfully, everyone involved with that song is now ok with the leaked version. Many angels (fans) believe this is one of Angelina’s best performances.
When Angelina was 11, she performed a number of concerts in Norway with a jazz/rock band. Those concerts included up to 14 songs, each remarkably performed. Angelina seems to be at her best when on stage, never nervous, only 100% confident.
On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year.
During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each.
In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT.
Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on RUclips. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her.
During the pandemic, Angelina was often seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles.
In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one.
Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield”
In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song.
Angelina has posted numerous short performances on Tik Tok and Instagram.
Angelina had concerts in Norway in July 2022.
Personally, Angelina as a great human being and her music came into my life when I needed it most. Her music has improved the quality of my life more than I can express. I now introduce her to as many people as I can, with the hope her music will do the same for others. We know once her family believes the time is right and allows Republic Records to fully promote her, she will become the superstar she has always dreamt and believed she would be.

Hi Rosalie, two great reactions, thank you. There are lots of comments here as Angie has a lot of dedicated followers, or Angels as she prefers to call us. Any one of us would do anything to protect her, she is so, so precious. Some have already explained about why she is barefoot. I have her book, Mellom to Hyerter (between two hearts) which she wrote as to why she performs barefoot. It was published when she was just nine, making her the youngest published author in Norway. Just consider the fact that she wrote the content of this in her diary when the encounter happened when she was six. Simply stunning❤❤
This reaction was special because you discovered Angelina with watching her first public performance and then jumped right into another masterpiece without cooling down. (I spent three days straight doing that when I discovered her just prior to Easter.)
During ‘Gloomy Sunday’ you laughed when you saw the judge’s jaw dropped. Yours had been there the whole time also.
During ‘I Put A Spell On You”, you got so overwhelmed that you retreated to the rear wall and crossed your arms for self-protection.
Once your mind gets past the shock of seeing and hearing something that should not be happening, then you will find her voice to be a welcomed warm embrace.

Hello from Alaska. I wasn't going to sign in on YT, but I had to so I could subscribe to your channel. I You've already gotten most of the important background on Angelina, so I won't quadruple up on it. Perfect voice for the 30's, 40's, 50's, etc. Perfect voice foe any generation and every style. Her soft voice is sublime, and her belting is perfect while the runs she includes are never over done like most of today's singers are. Pick any song she has done and please include her 5 originals. She met a young girl while on vacation. She struck up a conversation with her. She asked her what she hoped to be when she grows up. The girl said, she hoped to be a Doctor, but do to her life she doubted she would ever have her dream come true. Angelina gave her her shoes. Then told her parents she would never ware shoes while performing till all children had shoes. As far as I know she has raised millions of dollars for charity to fulfill her promise and continues to sing barefoot.

Our little barefoot angel is growing up, and singing less jazz. But that's still where her heart is. And she still lets it pop up from time to time. Angelina does all her own arrangements and nobody is going to tell her how to sing a song. She showed Elvis how Suspicious Minds should have been sung.

There are literally dozens of spectacular covers and originals by Angelina. You've dipped your toes into a whole new RUclips world. Angelina is now 16 and her latest videos are simply breathtaking. I came across her on AGT 3 years ago and I am still addicted to watching and listening to her. You've begun a long journey, but one that is worth it. I highly recommend her versions of A Million Years Ago and Stay she did with Ivan Mendez. Those were after these but before AGT. But frankly, you could pick any at random and be stunned by her talent every time.

I followed more of her singing and it just gets better and better. you have to remember she was 7 years old on the first video and i think 9 years old on the 2nd. these were not the easiest songs to sing and she nailed it.

She has been performing at a high level all over the world since age 8 when she won Norway's Got Talent singing Billie Holiday, Nancy Sinatra, and Gershwin. If you want to hear music, listen to anyone. If you want to feel music, listen to Angelina. It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance of "I Put a Spell On You", then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this!
"I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock-rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video).
You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). She was 7 and 9 in these two performances. Won Norway's Got Talent at age 7/8. Signed with Republic Records in 2020. Her family decided previously to let Angelina's childhood be as normal as possible and let her finish her education. She speaks multiple languages and plays multiple instruments. She has been arranging her music from a young age. She was invited to sing at Quincy Jones 85th birthday. Quincy said he had not seen this much talent since Michael. There also a short clip of David Foster bragging to his friends about Angelina. Queen praised her rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody and gave her rights to release it. She was asked one time how old she was when she won Norway's Got Talent show and she said she was seven. The more I listen to this clip the more it sounds to me like this is what Billie Holiday would have sounded like if there was a recording of her singing Gloomy Sunday when she was seven.

Her version of I put a spell on you is the best I've ever heard
Recent performances have pushed it to the side a little but her 'My Funny Valentine', released earlier this year, is yet to be surpassed in my opinion. It's not a song I had ever been fond of before and I wish her video showed her actually singing, but wow! If I had to choose a backup, I would choose the relatively unheralded 'Someone You Loved', especially the impromptu rendition in a hotel room alongside guitarist Egil. She may have sung it better elsewhere but that was amazing given the informal setting and adverse scenario (beside a window singing into a phone mic).
Going back a bit to pre-teen Angelina, my choice would be her TV performance of her own song, 'Shield' because there is nothing about that song or performance that hints that a 12-year-old was even involved, let alone responsible. It was a close call between that and her 'I'm a Fool to Want You' in the studio booth at 11years old. She did the same song earlier, totally a cappella, after 'Gloomy Sunday' for Norway's Got Talent and this would have been my "little Angelina" choice except that she then sang, at 8 years old let's not forget, 'Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)' at least as well as and more believably than Nancy Sinatra. But I know that the moment I post this comment, another half a dozen performances I could have chosen will spring to mind. Angelina Jordan is that consistent.

The first time the world heard Angelina sing. The world has waited for every new song she releases ever since. To say she is special doesn't go close to describing the effect she has on us every time she sings. Also, not bad for a self taught 9 year old. Take a fifties song by Screaming Jay Hawkins, arrange the music and then sing like a 40 year old jazz singer. This girl is a gift to us all. Welcome to Angelina's world.
