  • A guide on how to remove the speedometer unit from a Volkswagen Passat.
My car failed it's MOT due to a missing ABS light, so I had to remove the dash which was a pain in the ass. I decided to upload this short video to help guide others in the same situation through the process easily without the problems I first encountered.

No sorry, I know that when you're taking it off, you should take it straight off without twisting or spinning it and it must go back on in exactly the same position. Just a heads up if you decide to replace the speedo unit with another, the immobiliser is kept inside the unit and will need to be transferred into the new one for your car to work after replacement. (a little problem I encountered myself after buying a replacement on ebay)

Nice video, helpful. Where did the ABS led go? Did it fall off the circuit board? Did you ever find it inside the cluster. Shaking it you might have heard it banging around.

The person I bought the car off had broken the leds off to disguise the ABS problems. (So I wouldn't see the light upon ignition)

When placing the needles back onto the gauges, is there a special way to do this? I pulled the needle off the speedometer gauge, put it back when i was done, and now the speedometer doesn't work. Any ideas?
