Thanks for the useful info. As a novice at EV charging who came to this video to learn, it was a bit disheartening to see you laughing at someone trying to figure out how to “fuel” their EV 😔 This is new to a lot of people. But I appreciate the time spent on creating this resource, thanks 🙂
Hi Juic'd, love the video, great info. Tiny update on the Tesla Type 2 charger, specifically the Tesla Gen 3, which can be set to charge any EV (in Australia) with a CCS input plug (Hyundai Kona and Ioniq 5, MG ZS EV, BYD Atto 3, Polestar 2, etc). The Tesla Gen 3 just needs to be set to "legacy" mode. This is the cheapest and best value type 2 charger available in Australia that I'm aware of, and offers the features of balancing (across different vehicles at the same station) built in.
Great video champ!!! One thing you kinda mentioned but kinda skirted around, is the fact that everyone hears the 0-100% charge time and freaks out. When I have explained that you never go that low in normal use & your generally going to be charging the 50-100k's in a max of 10 hours, that usually eases the worry. Keep up the quality vids!!!
That's correct. For everyday driving, people usually drive 50km -100km a day. If they charge overnight, they will have a fully charged car in the morning, even with a granny charger.
3rd subscriber yeet! I'm looking at the new Ioniq 5, but drive Sydney to Canberra for mountain biking trips, and family camping. 90% of the time, it's short range in Sydney though. Infrastructure is key, if it was great today, I'd just buy!
I don't get how the Atto 3 can charge at 88kw max at a super charger, but you can't get a type 2 to type 2 charger to do more than 7kw at charging stations that have a BYO cable option (which is most of them). 😥
The beauty of EVs is being able to plug them in when arriving home and waking uo every morning with a full battery. You spend less time refuelling than when driving an ICE vehicle. Only problem is if you live in an apartment and don't have access to a power point for trickle charging. Are you a Tesla owner? Or a different EV?
So with the 350kw fast chargers, I assume Tesla’s can use those and potentially go 0-80% charge in 15 mins? I have a Tesla on order so just trying to figure out where I can fast charge apart from Tesla supercharger’s. I also assume the these 350kw chargers are quicker than Tesla superchargers or can the Tesla ones charge that quick also? Cheers.
Tesla Supercharger are generally 120kW-250kW depending on location. Tesla Model 3 currently has a max DC charge rate of 250kW. Whilst you can still plug into a 350kW charger, it will not charge any faster than 250kW.
Do you drive alot? I find i am able to get away with the granny charger, but if you drive alot it's definitely worth investing into a faster 7kW charger
