Honestly there is no reason for this to be so complicated. Many older people (and others) will be super confused by lots of this, and needing phone reception is crazy. They should just be plug and charge and have it automatically billed to a credit/debit card connected to your car. It would be trivial to implement assuming some car manufacturers were willing to come together on a standard for it, in fact looking at the CCS2 communication protocol there is a provision for secure encrypted confidential data, and this could be used to send payment details to the charger for billing.
What you didnt mention is to read the descriptions in plugshare which gives very useful info of how to find the actual charger at the location esp useful when its a shopping centre
Great video. Really highlights the problems with EV charging with multiple platforms. Plug -> Tap to pay --> Charges. Literately anything beyond this is stupid.
You can navigate to chargers using plugshare and Android Auto, no need for native navigation. Sadly doesn't work with Evie app or Chargefox yet as they don't support AA. These videos are useful for me, thanks.
I was thinking more of your (that is yours?) Ato 3 or other platforms which use or support AA like Polestar. I assume this makes it easier to find the stalls in the carpark as I was just struggling to do with chargefox app and phone.
Just tried it and PlugShare in AA will show you "Chargers are down the ramp and turn ..." on the car screen without using your phone. Unfortunately I can't find how to get the rest of the directions. Sounds like a Ludicrous video! Meanwhile back to fumbling with the phone in the carpark. PlugShare does program the native AA nav like Tesla.
Interesting because if I was in my Polestar 2 I would push the button to add the ev charger and it would show if it was available or not and route me there. It also lets me know if it becomes full and shows other options I don't know if the new Telsa chargers are in there yet (Pretty sure they are not) but in the future I don't see why the Tesla chargers that are available now should not show up as well.
And that was a smooth working one. Quite often you have to repeat the procedure or even reset the charger. However these RTMsvseems way better than the old Veefils.
I believe the Payter device is a debit/credit card reader. Haven’t seen many around - have you seen them on any of the others you’ve used? Might be worth swiping your CC next time to check!
Hi I’m in Sydney as well, just got my model 3 a week ago. Thank you for your information. Can I ask you where do you buy your model 3 accessories like the blink on the sunroof and phone holder…etc. 🙏
Thanks for sharing Tom, on a another note , we’re you on high beam in car park, your lights look like they’d blind someone from behind or is that how Tesla lights are.
50% of ev experience can be to do with charging experience. I can see how it can cumbersome for some people who are not savvy. It is what it is for now.
Most DC fast chargers do not require an adaptor for 95% of EVs in Australia including Tesla Model Y. Watch my video: ELECTRIC VEHICLE AND TESLA CHARGING GUIDE FOR AUSTRALIA 2022 UPDATE ruclips.net/video/-DoKyGgNPOw/видео.html
I noticed you didn't pre-condition your car's battery on the way. Is that only necessary when you're using a super-charger? Also, can you manually turn on the conditioning process via the car's touch screen? Or is it purely triggered by navigating to a super-charger using the map?
@LudicrousFeed if I'm not mistaken, you've been able to use Tesla superchargers in NSW? Do you or anyone else know, if we're able to use them in Victoria? BYD told me that they're releasing an adapter, so we can plug into any Tesla charger.
@@SalkoSalcinovic There are quite a few Tesla Superchargers that are open to non-Tesla EVs across Australia (VIC included) - check the Tesla app for sites
Went to town to try Evie and it worked a treat. 9% in 13 minutes, but at 58c, so it's only for emergency top ups. Still, good to know it's working, if you're first time ev owner like myself.
I really don't like teslas voice control. I hope they put android auto on it. I jumped I'm my wife's car recently and I forgot how good having a good voice assistant and good apps.
@@LudicrousFeed Tom, do you want to make a video to compare different wall Mount home chargers? I presume you understand Chinese or mandarin. I saw lots of Chinese brands good looking home charger and really want to get one but they use GB/T. There should be an adapter to convert GBT to type 2. If you could make a video on this topic, great then as lots of people are talking about what chargers to use on Facebook.

Hopefully one day 🙏

Yup, that’s why Joy was reading the description as I was trying to find it in the carpark
When on plugshare you can click on the map and share to tesla and off you go
I’ll try that next time
Works with everything on Google Maps.
Great video. Really highlights the problems with EV charging with multiple platforms.

It’s why I do these videos - to highlight the reality at any point in time
Just stay happy in the Tesla bubble....reliable, easy.

Yup I’ll try sending my location to the Tesla app for my next how to find a charging station video 😃

Yup the Google maps integration in Polestar vehicles is very good - showing charger availability 👍
You have to feel for elderly folk unfamiliar with brand new tech trying to work all this out. Quite a process tbh.
Agreed. Not just the elderly either
Definitely why it's much easier and quicker to have an RFID card
(And even easier once the Australian providers roll out Plug and Charge, like Tesla)
Why do you single out elderly folk? I know a lot of younger folk who have difficulty with new technology.

I think so too Charles and yes I did try my CC off camera - no cigar 🚬

Agreed. It can be off putting for some
Evie don’t have many chargers here in WA
Looking forward to seeing the WA charging network come online!

Hmm good point I do recall an update last year allowing pre-conditioning for third party DC chargers. I’ll have to investigate for the next video
did you get rid of the swivel screen? if so, why?
Still got it 👍
Anyone in Victoria with BYD that can tell me what the best app for searching for chargers is, please?

Why do 50% of non Tesla chargers in Australia have charging cables that can only be used by about 1% of BEVs?
Government funding requirement that ChaDeMo plug must be present
Less than 1% and counting down. What a waste of public money.
They say 75kW but it's 50kW only and not load sharing.

Yeah agreed it’s always been temperamental
I am not impressed by Evie using an overseas csll centre for its phone helpline.
Oh really? I haven’t tried calling yet
And the cost was????
40c/kWh x 2.65kWh = $1.06
I wasn’t there for very long - only to demonstrate the process
