    UK SITE- www.amazon.co....
    WORLDWIDE- www.amazon.com... Antifouling and epoxying our keel, installing our new batteries and a new forestay. These are our last few boat jobs before we set sail on our biggest voyage so far!
    After being hauled out, we noticed that our keel was in need of some TLC. We first ground back some parts to the bare metal, before treating it for rust using a rust converter. We then applied two coats of 2 part epoxy primer, followed by an undercoat primer- before giving the whole hull a few coats of Hempel Tiger Xtra. We actually won an Instagram competition with Vision Marine, the prize being all this antifouling stuff, which was so lucky!!
    Check them out here - www.visionmari...
    We also gave the top side some due care, with a cut buff and polish- thanks to Dan's help! (Brynn's brother in law)
    You may have also seen in a previous video, we noticed our mast wobbling at the base whilst anchored in 30knt winds. We followed this up by getting the rigging checked, and it turned out we needed a new forestay. A big thank you to Racetec rigging for doing this for us, as they were able to come out to do the job with in a week of giving them a call.
    RaceTec Rigging - www.racetecrig...
    Last but definitely not least, we also managed to wire in our new batteries. This was a tough job in a tight space, but has made such a difference by more than doubling our original house bank.

    Hi, guys. I learned that if the diesel heater is on a fused system then that is very dangerous. If a fuse blows and the diesel heater is running then that means the power has been cut and the heater cannot go thru its very necessary cool down phase feature and its running at several hundred degrees. Meaning that it most likely will have a meltdown and can catch itself and surroundings on fire. At the very minimum the heater will be destroyed. Imho I firmly believe hard wired directly to the battery is a must with a diesel heater..no fuses. Love you guys and your vids! Hope to see you on the water one day!

    • @ChasingCurrents
      @ChasingCurrents  2 года назад +1

      Hey, yes we have also learnt this. The only fuse on our system in the one built with the heater. Other than that its wired straight to our batteries 😊. So far it has been brilliant but I dont think we will use it so much as we did in the UK while we're in the med.
      Thank you for the comment and so happy you enjoy the videos 😊.

    It amuses me that Brynn is like a biology science nerd but he just loves doing all this manual work fixing up the boat. (I'm a retired computer software engineer and i get huge enjoyment from restoring old motorcycles, not for financial gain.. i just like doing it).

    interesting rudder design.. looks like it was a simple transom hung rudder that has had some area added to it forward of the pivot point, to make it a semi balanced rudder... and an anti ventilation plate has been added... or maybe thats how they made them?

    • @ChasingCurrents
      @ChasingCurrents  3 года назад

      Hey I think this is how they made them, we have some old records and photos of when it left the boat builders and looks the same. We have had some information to say its been reinforced though so some areas are built up a bit more. But yes it is an interesting design 😊. Thank you for commenting

    Polishing looks great, what did you use?
    That battery cable run is quite long I’d recommend thicker cables especially if it’s a long run to your inverter or solar regulator. Ideally the inverter and charger and solar regulator want to be 1m from the batteries.

    • @ChasingCurrents
      @ChasingCurrents  3 года назад

      Hey thank you 😁. And thanks to Dan haha. We did use the larger gauge cable for this run, and it seems to be running well for the last 5 ish months. I will go over everything this winter though with a fine comb 👍cheers

    Next time, go with Lithium batteries. We will never go back, just has amazing reliability and is actually cheaper over time. Don't discharge these AGM's below 50% ever, as I am sure they told you but just incase :-)

    • @ChasingCurrents
      @ChasingCurrents  2 года назад

      Hey, I think we will when we can afford to 😊, unfortunately we wasn't able to this time around. We monitor the batteries closely so not to damage them by discharging to low 👍thankyou for the comment though as hopefully others will see this too 😁

    It's probably a good thing I wasn't there. You were more or less helplessly trapped in the battery compartment. Had someone farted on you there would have been no escape. You may have injured yourself in the ensuing struggle. I, of course, am above such behavior.

      @@ChasingCurrents Big time considering that alternative accommodation is so expensive given it's a holiday location in peak summer. I have managed to get essential work done on the hull though so I can launch, (paid for someone to do the work I could do myself but cheaper than traveling down, renting a hotel and buying the materials). Encouraging though to see you folks moving on, it builds my enthusiasm for beating the problems and getting out there myself, so thanks for the work you put in with the channel and your content.
