Congratulations! When you are querying you should be working on books 2 and 3. It will be easier to get published if you have something to show of them.

The querying trenches are hard. The average percentage of positive responses to queries is...not...great. But the only way for us to get published is to keep on trucking!! Sending you all the luck!

Good morning, Sara, happy April 1st, and no this isn't an April fool's joke. 😅 Good luck on Draft 7 with Project DE and hope it doesn't take long to speed through, as well as April Camp Nano and the publishing process. My April goals for this month is to finish Draft 2 of my book while using a free proofreader online which has helped me a lot, and I'm more than halfway done already. I'm rough drafting a Beauty and the Beast retelling in the same universe as another project, but not with the same characters.
My plan is that by November, I am ready to rough draft book 3 in my soap series. Book 1 is ready for professional edits, and book 2 is ready for beta readers. By the time I'm done with the rough draft book 4(the last in the series) I want to publish book 1 and do a 6-8 month release between books. It will have 2 companion short story collections with bits that don't fit in the books, but are good bits.

So cool you finished Draft 6! I love that you are sharing this experience, books that a long time to be close to perfect, it really helps to ease the prefectionist in all of us.

I feel ya, my last project was 8 drafts over 6 years, most of which I was in school. And to be honest, if I wanted to publish it, I would need another draft 😂 I'm focusing on other projects for now because I'm so sick of that one still. Idk how many drafts is considered "normal" but I feel like we should normalize more drafts, especially when you're learning. It's hard to write a book haha. Best of luck with draft 7!
