I think seeing Galnet news being shown on the holographic advertising screens as you enter a station would greatly add to the immersion of the game and might actually motivate me to read it.
This makes so much sense for ED. Would make the game more enjoyable, more immersive & more inclusive. From hardcore faction players to fringe newbies. MASSIVE THUMBS UP!
FD, please hire this guy! This concept is awesome. Even with synthezised voices (TTS) it is far more "immersive" than what we have current. Actually i am using EDDI to read galnet news, but seeing them like here would be perfect and it also would the game give so much more live into it.
ED has needed this for years! The powers need a bit of life put into them as well, as do the NPC messages you see while flying about in busy systems - I just ignore them now but if they had a bit of video going on it might be fun to join in with a wedding barge or something.. I'd have this sort of news service over any friday email!
Greedy Raider they will just realize, that even if it is a direct improvement to the game and in a lot of ways gameplay, it wont bring them more cash. So instead they will make a new skin for a couple of unused ships.
Before even finishing the video, I can say thats fucking awesome. Full screened, it gave me a bit of an oh shit moment. Its one of those little things that go along ways. just like the ATC Voices that talk to you when you request docking. its always the little things, when done right can make a huge difference. Also, FDEV. Hire this guy! lol

Perfect.... it's so simple .... the voice they use for the engineer bases could work ... but finding one of their employees with a good voice and running it through a filter like you did would be great and painless... We need the story exposing in-game ... news needs life!
Imagine a little cut scene 'Why not head to the observation deck bar whilst we load your cargo.' Showing a CMDR sitting down at the bar. Sooo much you could do with this!
If frontier didn't have the time to produce the news videos , they could run a weekly contest. ... or have minor factions that were approved Gal net stringers. Sort of like Radio Sidewinder,but with video.
yes! I like that idea. there are a lot of options for creative and talented CMDRs to participate in something like this. Of course Fdev would have to review things before htey went into the game but it would be easier for them than having to create all of the content themselves.
Or just ask the community for Audio Files or maybe put the PR manager to make the audio files him self... it's not like an 1MB file would damage all the in game network ¬¬
Personally I have a Galnet News Feed App on my phone, I love checking it out as I'm gearing up to get back into my CMDR's chair, but my real hope for greater immersion in E:D lies in them adding in Space Legs!! Being able to link up with your Wing inside a Space Station and then breaking off and meeting outside in your ships would just be GODLEN!!
I love this. I work in motion graphics, too-- as part of small team that puts out regular media pieces for Disney that are not unlike your mock. You could have regular items like this, written/approved/animated, by 3 people if your development process was efficiently organized.
i would love something like this, it would make galnet more interesting, personally when i see a wall of text i'm immediately put off by it, but having a "news channel" would be awesome, and i can keep uptodate on stuff i want. Maybe have it so you can select different topics that you want to have, such as weapons, politics, etc.
Yep spot on there, I have the mobile app for Galnet but even with that I miss interesting articles. This would really bring local and galaxy wide news to life. And you'd get my vote to be hired by Frontier. Another idea to add to yours would be something like having local Bounties put on on a Fed's most wanted news short, with pics of their avatars posted. Or for traders a similar thing but with the top 5 movers in the commodities. You could set a Galnet preference for the news you would be interested in, with only the big stories going to all commanders.
I think its a great idea. It's important to deliver the story to the players. I only knew whats going on if I watched videos about it since I neither have the time nor the motivation to travel huge distances just to see a alien crash site or search for a thargoid ship to experience it myself. I would love to see or at least hear a broadcast of one of the faction leaders every so often. As I understood it the empire and the federation now fight together against the thargoids(?). It would be nice to hear a press conference or at least a voiced official statement. I want to get news reports everytime I ask for landing permission too. Like there is a new drugboss or something in the system. (Without saying the name so you can reuse the audio) then the name on the screen and the request to all cmdrs to hunt him down.
Great idea! Using that “dead space” in cockpit is a cool way to get system info made available. I think even the computerised voice is a good way of passing info if CMDR is busy avoiding interdiction by that Bio-waste crazed NPC.
Things like this should be brought up in the expo, this will then give the opportunity to both the panel and the community to discuss and flesh out great new ideas. I’ve been playing the game from launch and I have probably looked in the Galnet about 5 times, the thought of sifting through a wall of text is not very exciting
I've always been a BIG fan of this idea, and concept 2 has pushed this even further. Frontier have announced the up coming Galnet Audio where the articles are read out to you. But in my opinion this still misses the main issue - that Galnet itself is still tucked away where no-one bothers to check. Your solution is much more applicable and accessible. ... Just hope FDev are watching.
yeah I guess they say the new system will be playable audio while you fly and do other things, but not sure if you still would have to go visit the Galnet area and click something to play it

You could also take a page out of EvE Online's book as I'm sure many others have mentioned, and have holographic displays posted outside/inside stations that play GalNet new messages and announcements. You could even ditch the holographics altogether and simply have the alerts coming through the speakers already inside space stations. Let's hope Fdev are paying attention!
Hey CMDR my friends and I were complaining about much the same thing. All the Elite law is bound up using web browser to read mountain of boring text. Which breaks immersion and frankly puts me off bothering to read it. Your idea is brilliant and exactly what Elite needs that and a departure from all things being controlled by rng. For instance when the thargoids first appeared to be siphoning something from the barnacles I rushed out to see. Only to spends hours going in an out of the instance desperate to see the thargoids. It never happened so I gave up. Similar story driven events in other games wouldn't rely on randomness there would be a trigger guaranteeing that all players would experience the content. I hope Elite takes up your great idea.

Go to Xi Wangda, Cartier City. Pick up exonomy passenger missions to HIP 4310 and Donglavs. 140.000 to 150.000 ls distance to planetary bases. Missions give 100.000 to 150.000 per passenger, often between one and two mil. Per run up to 17 mil but one run takes up to 20 mins. Around 30 mil per hour.
If kept as a click option in a news banner all good. Post it off to Frontier. ! Hearing and seeing news is much better then reading a giant wall of text any day.

Immersive and impressive V.J. : this would improve the game significantly. I'd be more than happy to settle with something like Ivona voices to limit the costs. It would still need some extra work on FD's part (initially of course, but more importantly, regularly after that) but it seems like a good investment. Not sure the devs agree though : their priorities seem so far from mine most of the time...
Looks great! I love the news category button e.g exploration and trade news. It would also be nice to have a galactic chat function for each career e.g. you've found a fantastic alien site and you want to share it with other players...plop the info in chat. Another item on my wish list for galnet would be clickable star system locations (true this is available for CGs but the functionality should be applied to all systems mentioned in galnet). I'm so tired of having to write down systems and stations of interest found on galnet! Its another example of game mechanics/lack of game mechanics that should have been there day one.
I think that forcing me to watch a Galnet advertisement every time I land anywhere would probably get a little annoying pretty quickly. However, I'd definitely love to see the animated/voiced over news postings and a way to easily access them from the station or ship. One problem I can see with voiced over/animated news postings though is that it would probably take a huge amount of development time/effort to constantly be making new news postings.
Well if Frontier pick this up, they most certainly have to start paying you royalties!!! The ATC coms were your idea so, if they do something remotely similat to this they have to pay you or give you a lifetime pass for Elite Dangerous. As always a great idea!!
Absolutely yes, even if it is a little old schools with this news official breaking news thing, information era, and there we are not in information era, it is still a good thing. We can even: Minimize it so it runs in smaller resolution like does on phones youtube when we slide our finger (it will be with the mouse, drag movement) or silence it and let it let it run with no audio. This is good. Even a news that is adaptable would be great! The game universe has already things that are scary engaging.. it would be cool to have amsomethinf that keeps lasting longer the feeling of being in an alive universe. Also in flight disturbed connections ...
This would be amazing. I like breaking out the different news streams too. I enjoy Powerplay and BGS but don't think they should be the top Galnet news items.

would be cool if the ships computer would know you are on a 200ls supercruise to your destination and it would ask, "it looks like we have some time till we get to our destination, would you like to see what is on Galnet?" ... and then you could get interdicted halfway through the news video! LOL
The "EDDI" addon already does this, but without the video, It's nice to be able to just listen to the recent updates while going about my own business. Adding video however, would add little to nothing, as most players would "eventually" just listen to the update and "get on with their business", than sit and watch and waste time. good concept, but it's like having a TV in your car. It's not safe. Best to keep it voice only, so people can concentrate on docking safely :)
