So i got to thinking. Becs phrase 'to pave the way' was used correctly in its metaphorical use of someone going first and making it easier. But eamon is correct in the literal sense that nobody put down pavers. 'Someone's blazed the trail' would been a more correct way of putting it, as well as what was said above, marked the trail/path. Not that any of this matters, but its nice to know that other people think about this stuff too.
Sounds like a great plan! We have always dreamed of owning a piece of land somewhere in the woods we just never imagined it would be in 2020 but hey... everything happens for a reason 😆

Obviously I love you guys to bits...I live in a town not too far from Toronto and so I am a fellow Canadian. I am about to check out all of your Chaiwalachai items and maybe shop a bit. What I hate about finishing all the videos is now I have to wait til Sunday. Stay safe and fingers crossed that your offer is accepted. Be safe ❤️
We are closing now on a property and were going through the same thing! Houses were coming off the market so quick. I was so overwhelemed with it all but we are getting a 2 acre homestead now! Good luck guys!
totally worth it! Last October my fiancee and myself bought our first house on the water. Its a cute little bungalow and we've added some personal touches. Its our own piece of heaven! Enjoy every minute, you guys are going to love it!
@@eamonandbec I love the music too. As someone who is learning the music industry I was wondering about the business side of using the music. I know that RUclips is strict about copyrights. If you don't mind sharing, what kind of arrangement do you have with the artists?
Same. Our landlady informed us she had promised the apartment to someone else 5 weeks before we were going to renew our lease. We hadn’t planned to buy a house for YEARS. But because rent was about what we’d pay to buy, and the interest rates are so low (we got 2.66%), we knew buying a house would be a lot better, but we’d have to go into debt for the next year or so to do it. Also, we have 6 kids (blended family) and didn’t want to deal with the more uncertain future of renting. We had to put everything on credit cards so we had as much cash as possible. I’m glad we were able to buy but it’s tough.
It's been about a year since I've seen your content, and I must say the editing, the aesthetic and everything about it is immaculate - the drone shots are such a nice touch! Keep being a positive role model for all us who want to start livin a little more freely ❤
Eamon, the "road has been paved" by previous passersbyers footprints, not paved with cement. It's a figure of speech. This is a really cool video. Land ownership is always a good investment. It would be a good idea to use some of the land to build a second structure to use as a Merchandising store. If you two build it others will come. Good luck with everything.
Surely its a trail. Someone has cleared a trail, also animals create trails like that. Paving the way is a little too grand a statement for a walking trail. I get her sentiment though, its all good fun.
I was thinking about Bec's question about "why did we learn this (buying a home knowledge) instead of algebra. I have been fed up with the school system for several years now. What kids need to know is saving money and finance & investing, among other things. Hell, shop s and mechanic classes weren't even offered to girls when I was in HS. Even in college, we only learned to get a degree so we could earn money. But what good is my big fancy degree now when I'm getting older and can no longer work. I am in no way prepared for retirement, but I"m there due to some health problems. Old age sneaks up on you fast when you're least expecting it. You're still young enough to learn some of this, and I'm doing this as I go along and I don't have a man around to fix things. The entire school system and way of thinking needs to change. Anyway, so much for my ranting. Wishing you luck in your hunt for a cabin.
I’m so excited for a cabin “build”, as much as van life sounds exciting to me - cabin life will be our future. Notebooks ready for some tips and tricks!!!
I’d go for the one with the largest land If you want to develop a kind of resort with a few cabins for rental. As for the existing house it seems there’s no doubt the third one is the best. Good luck with your decision!!!
So excited for you guys! You do know that you will need to put in a guest house for Bob, right? He could come up and visit on the weekends and be in your videos. We love us some Bob!
KUDOS Eamon for stopping to look anyway, just incase it was an injured animal!!!👏👏👏 You can do a stove in a day Eamon as long as you have the stove already! Certainly wouldn't need a very large one for that small green place!!😊
I fell in love with your channel last winter~ 3 years ago I sold my van and moved to a farm in the middle of the woods on the south coast of PEI (East Coast Canada) your channel introduced me to other van lifers and it was such fun exploring with you while I was setting up a homestead and art studio while working on winterizing our cottage. Sending you a lotta love, and feel the burn out in this video~ wish you so much good luck and hope this next adventure is absolutely incredible. When the east coast opens up again, if you are ever looking for a reason to visit PEI I would love to host you! Good luck on the offer, on navigating a mortage and all the stuff we do not learn in shool.. those feelings resonate SO much!
Yes, Eamon.... Bec is right. The word "pave" doesn't just mean pavement. It can be used just as Bec said, meaning that someone went before you and "opened" the way. That said, I hate that you're making us wait to see which cabin you're buying! Dirty dogs! LOL
Mostly if someone says that a road has been paved by something, it has figurative meaning. Like the pandemic has paved the way to them buying a cottage.
@@HolgerJakobs Right. To "pave the way" metaphorically is used to explain something has been made easier for other's to follow. I'm afraid Pat and Bec are not correct here. To call a physical path 'paved' means something specific.
As a regular watcher I saw this when you originally posted it, but I'm watching old episodes while waiting patiently for you to be ready to vlog again. ❤️❤️❤️ I also just watched the episode of your departure from Morocco. It's even more heart wrenching and exciting to watch with the perspective of a year having passed. I'm also scrolling way way down to the earliest videos you have available an enjoying the scenes from Africa. Thinking good thoughts for you often in Virginia.
Who else immediately likes the video without even watching it because they’re so stoked to see more awesome content from these two beautiful people?!? Just me...? Eh. I highly doubt that. Haha 😊
@@sarahmelita I came to the video to write this exact comment. @eamonandbec, I just bought a couple new Lodge cast iron pans - they make them with a flared base like the one you use in the video. Not hard to keep seasoned, and easy to clean once seasoned. also, a hard scraper on that pan to get the bulk of it off + a paste of baking soda and water for an hour (overnight is the lazy "hour") and most of that stuff will come up with a sponge. Love your story-telling - you work hard at that part and it shows :)

I couldn't imagine thinking "New van, go travel right now!" We're heading into flu season, plus a pandemic, and the guidelines for your province (where my partner's family lives) are still to have small, isolated "bubbles" and not interact with others. Always go for a fixed rate mortgage! No more than 15 years. No more that 25% of your monthly take home pay. I know with you being entrepreneurs this might be a little harder to calculate but this formula makes sure that you’re not buying too much house and it’s a blessing and not a burden.
30y is actually cheaper if you get a low rate and invest the difference thatva 15y would have cost. I know it sounds like it does not make sense but between return % and inflation effect it does. Learn finance people....
@@kdrguru This is correct. While rates are at all time low, lock in as many years you can. dah! They are taking a big hit on the market topping out right now. They need payments as minimal as possible. Things don't work out, not much of a loss.

I know that cast iron is really heavy, but 1 pan (just one). Once seasoned, you'll be able to get it clean with just a little bit of water. The trick is once a bunch of stuff is stuck on it (like your potatoes), you add a little water and put it back on the stove. Let it heat up and it will come off so easily. Don, this dude from Texas, taught me that. I use that trick every day. Love it. :)
So, if you do not want to use a coated or cast iron pan you have to get a very clean heavy gage pan (no old stuck burned oil or food) hot before adding the oil.... not so hot it smokes but hot where water drops will sizzle. Then add your oil and coat the pan and let it get hot.... grape seed oil is great with high temp cooking... doesn’t burn. Once your oil is hot then add your food, again not raging hot on high temp, rather let it heat on a med-high temp or lower if your burners tend to be hotter than most. If done correctly you will not have any sticking and it will be just as good as a coated pan! Hope this helps. All the properties look amazing...it will be a journey! Best wishes!

Be safe ❤️
I think they chose the flatter land with only the tiny bunkhouse that was closer to Toronto... Whatever they chose I’m so excited for them!
I liked that one too!
Me too, ask price is horrible tho
I love how compassionate Eamon is to animals ☺️
I love that Eamon stopped because he thought there was an animal in need! Warms my animal-loving heart!
I truly appreciate your diversity of music! It draws a bigger audience.
Thanks so much!! We spend so much time looking for new tunes so this is always such a huge compliment 🤗
@@eamonandbec Can you please list what songs are in your videos? Love them all!
@@eamonandbec I love the music too. As someone who is learning the music industry I was wondering about the business side of using the music. I know that RUclips is strict about copyrights. If you don't mind sharing, what kind of arrangement do you have with the artists?

What was the name of the song while cooking the potato’s
Watching from Florida! Still No power bc of Hurricane Sally but I made sure my phone was charged enough to watch Eamon & Becs new video!! 💗

"We're gonna try & scramble up some cash... go into debt (we'll figure that out)".... my life in 2 seconds 😅🤦🏼♀️
Haha you know... adulting 101 😂
I 50000% agree this stuff needs to be a class in schools.
I love when you leave in the raw moments when you don't agree on things. Makes things so much more real!
Others have paved the way, blazed the trail, cleared a path....whee!
Surely its a trail. Someone has cleared a trail, also animals create trails like that.
Paving the way is a little too grand a statement for a walking trail.
I get her sentiment though, its all good fun.
The only way Bec would be right is if her statement was [ie; I pave the way to ----] it is a " pathway" a way that constitutes or serves as a path
Mimimi.
Bec is so cheeky, eating with her mouth when a fork or spoon isn’t offered to her. You gotta love it!
Hahaha 😂 you caught that did you?!
I’m so excited for a cabin “build”, as much as van life sounds exciting to me - cabin life will be our future. Notebooks ready for some tips and tricks!!!
I love how open and straight forward you guys are especially about taking this on and going into debt and not knowing whats next.
Ohhhh 💯!! Bob is always our priority number 1 lol!! He can have the main bedroom!
We sure do
Yay for Bob!!!
He has his own van if the cabin is full :)
@@teresadopeysmum3268 I know :)
KUDOS Eamon for stopping to look anyway, just incase it was an injured animal!!!👏👏👏
You can do a stove in a day Eamon as long as you have the stove already!
I can see a cubic mini woodstove being installed in the van soon!
Love the idea of a bunch of tiny cabins, it would make a lovely tiny resort.
Okay, the revisit to this is crazy. So much has changed in 3.5 years!!!!!
When Instagram Bec says to get yourself over to RUclips and watch the latest video... You get over to RUclips ASAP!
HAHAH thanks for popping over Matthew!!
Watch the money pit(Tom hanks) before you plunge 😅
Try cast iron, it is heavy af but it’s safe and doesn’t stick like with stainless steel. Heats up nicely too.
Steph La I was going to suggest the same thing! Works great on induction cook tops. That’s all I use😊
I love my cast iron pans! They are so good
They last for years too. Teflon is full of nasties.
Carbon steel ones has all the properties and is hell of a lot better than any of them, but they do need some maintenance from time to time
Yestin Lim but carbon steel doesn’t give the non stick properties of properly seasoned cast iron
Who else immediately likes the video without even watching it because they’re so stoked to see more awesome content from these two beautiful people?!? Just me...? Eh. I highly doubt that. Haha 😊
Awe thank you for all the love and support Ashley!!!
🍺
always man always. last night it came out for me but I was too tired to watch it but I liked it and am now watching it in the morning.
Eamon & Bec You’re welcome! 💕Y’all have been a huge inspiration. I love watching your vids so of course I had to give y’all a shout out.
But why wouldn’t u watch it ?
You guys should try a cast iron pan. When seasoned it’s basically nonstick.
It’s also magnetic so it will work on the induction top.
SolidTeknics - US (or AU made depending on where you live). hand forged from a single sheet. Season like cast iron. Works with induction. AWESOME
same thing I thought, just heavy for van life, but you only need one:)
This is going to be a long week until next Sunday! So excited for you both. What's the travel time to Home Depot/Lowes? You'll be making a lot of trips. I see a woodsy wedding venue!
You keep mentioning that it's cold, and that you don't have heat... what's up with the diesel heater? I swore you installed one?
The whole week is stressing for me because of school but I’m so happy that there’s always something to look forward to, every Sunday!!!
Which cabinnnnn i’m so excitedd!!!
Hope you find some other things to help you de-stress too 🤗. Thanks for spending a part of your Sunday with us!!!
UUUHH then you could appear on Living Big in a Tiny House and that's two of my top three RUclips channels combined 🥺😍
its been a rough 2020 and i broke into tears at the end "...and we are ready to put in an offer". I'm so so happy/excited for you guys! And so lucky to be able to watch the journey.
I couldn't imagine thinking "New van, go travel right now!" We're heading into flu season, plus a pandemic, and the guidelines for your province (where my partner's family lives) are still to have small, isolated "bubbles" and not interact with others. It makes total sense to hunker down in the cabin- enjoy the new adventure and congrats! Projects keep people sane :)
Talk about a cliff hanger!!! So excited for you guys! Y’all have inspired my husband and I to renovate our Jayco 23ft trailer and move in!! We don’t have kids and we travel every few months for his work anyways! Why not?? ☺️
Does option #2 come with a bus you could remodel, too? This could be another project for E if he gets tired of building fires in the woods.
"We are ready to pit in an offer" So excited for you both! We just purchased our first home in December last year so all ur feels, hit me. Know exactly how you guys are feeling. But its the best owning property! Hope you guys get it!!
Congrats on your new home Chelsea! That is so exciting 🥰❤️
Always go for a fixed rate mortgage! No more than 15 years. No more that 25% of your monthly take home pay. I know with you being entrepreneurs this might be a little harder to calculate but this formula makes sure that you’re not buying too much house and it’s a blessing and not a burden.
Sound advice, right on.
Omg Hannah did this!! I’m happy to see more van life people do it
Yeah! That's what i was thinking while watching them. I also love hannah!☺

Snow doesn't usually come to eastern Ontario until mid to late November and every once in a while we get lucky and it holds off till December.

Eamon and Bec have ‘paved the way’ for future van lifers. Or living in a cabin in the woods.
I thought Bec was hilarious trying to explain this. Reminds me of doing an edit for a paper yesterday: using ‘concrete’. Many ways to interpret.
Haha yes! Sometimes a word can have multiple meanings... EAMON! Lol
Depending on whether it is a noun or an adjective.
this is so fun!! I've been loving watching the indie projects fix their stone barn into a tiny home!
eamon 2017: there's no way I can drive a 170 sprinter it's too big for tight cities
eamon 2020: okay a 170 isn't too hard to drive after all
and then imagine eamon 10 years later: a 40 foot bus is soooo short so we're converting that! Edit: this is the first time I’ve gotten 5+ likes !!
Hahah oh how times change eh 😂
Now I make eleven!
We started building on a vacant lot in January and are just now getting the walls finished inside. Building takes a lot more time than you'd imagine when doing it yourself, but so rewarding!

@@UU-kb5xx finding a passion in your life is amazing. It's great to have balance between that. As you continue with your education, you'll get to meet more people who share that passion. Balance is important though, I've worked very hard to be where I am and I am not good at it. It means I love my work and I spend a lot of time on my own. I like time to myself but I wish I were better at balance.
Bec you are right, idk why they don't teach that kind of stuff in schools it would certainly be helpful.
It would be SO helpful! Mortgages, investing, etc!! This is all REAL WORLD stuff that is SUPER important that I feel like we’re totally blind to until it’s time to be an adult and then it almost feels too late to be starting from scratch. Lol anywho... that’s my rant!
@@eamonandbec I totally agree. I didnt make that mistake with my children I made sure I gave them information so they wouldn't feel like I felt when I went in to the "real world". Anyway good luck on the cabin!
@@eamonandbec I agree with your rant. I took a great personal finance course in college (university :-) ) and it taught all about mortgages, buying cars, large appliances, life insurance etc. Should be taught in high school. Love you guys. Beware buying lake front with steep slopes. Some day you'll be old and hate it. Of course if you flip it this spring it's a different story :-)
@@KayRay1966 uh no they dont. Not unless you take a specific course. And many many parents dont put in the time to teach their kids things schools miss because they figure school is good enough. I know a lot of people who had to be taught in adult life how to balance a check book or other simple real world tasks. I met a whole group who had no idea what a cashier's check was a couple weeks ago. Also the amount of people I come across who cannot cook much of anything is shocking. The amount of people who have little to no critical thinking or reasoning skills is even more shocking. We are failing at least in the states to produce people who can care for themselves effectively. And personally I dont think thats an accident. If I ever have kids they will never be in public school if I can help it.
I’m sooo excited you’re getting a cabin! Totally what I was hoping you would do. Will be so much fun following your journey. Good luck guys xx

Eamon, “paved the way” is just a figure of speech. 🤣
The past few weeks I have been working on getting a condo (on my own, for a future rental property when travel is allowed again)... I hope it works out for you both!
At least we are in this crazy boat together ❤️. We’re sure you’ve made the right decision for you if you listened to your gut!! As Eamon’s mom said to us as we were asking for advice “there are no decisions you can’t get out of in life (except for having a kid that is)”. My Dad lives 5 minutes from the the Big Rideau Lake. So beautiful!! I was wondering what you guys were going to do during our Horrible Canadian winters. We road school during the winter months with our 4 kids in the southern US, and this year everything is just up in the air. We are taking the time to renovate our 5th Wheel, so that if we get the green light we can get out of dodge only if safe to do so. I homeschool my kiddo's and I hope to teach them Money Management, home ownership and everything that comes with that including mortgages. All the Best!!! Hope you get the cottage you desire in your hearts!

Eamon & Bec I used to have to eat with headphones in when I was younger to distract myself from my own chewing!! I’m better about it now, but other people’s chewing still drives me a little nuts 😂
The last property isn’t private enough at least down by the water. The neighbours dock and boat seem very close to you. It is so beautiful though all of them are. Good luck guys
It is an interesting spot for the main dock as that property actually has 500 feet of waterfront so there’s lots of other opportunities!

It's not 100% finalized yet but we too are getting very very excited!!! Thanks for the love Evie!
Omg
I got goosebumps at the end when Eamon said "we are ready to put an offer "
Can you make a video on all the harsh realities of the van life... I think it'll give a more realistic approach to small scale future van lifers.
We actually have a video called "why not to van life" or something like that on our channel just like this! We agree that van life isn't for everyone 😊
