  • This video shows how to replace the front strut assemblies on a small GM car such as the Cavalier, Sunfire and others. When the right front strut spring broke on a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier, the car sagged and made a "thunk" sound when making right turns. We used Monroe Econo-matic 182174 strut assemblies with good results.

I believe to maintain the same orientation as original but it may not matter and I might have been over-thinking it.

Helpful video but towards the end there I was wondering if that guitar was ever going to get tuned. :)

How long did the entire process take and how long would a shop take?

Wouldn't it be wonderful if people actually responded?

I didn't see if you disconnected the tierod? Is it necessary to do that to replace the strut?

No, you don't need to disconnect the tie rod.

The Original Mechanic thanks I didn't... just loosened the castle nut a bit incase I needed more movement.... just put the new one in.. I can see that the wheel is very towed out.. have to take it for an alignment asap.

depending on the vehicle and the year...some tie rods need to be dis- connected from the strut ...others are attached to the steering knuckle
