The pattern is there is the raw food area, where all the shabu shabu beef and fruits is, then there is a cooked food area where a lot of working ppl will head to for their meals, then the sauces, Quick Cook instant foods like Ramens.. the Cold aisle for frozen and then dairy products.. usually there is an order for it..the alcohol aisle usually near the checkout where there is more staff and more cctv, in case of theft and breakages.. while cheaper items like snacks tend to be in areas less monitored and less staff..

also usually the items that ppl need to buy most often is placed right at the back of the mall, like milk or eggs or rice..etc so to get to that item, you will likely need to walk past a lot of other rows and be distracted by signs like PRICE DROP, NEW ARRIVAL, CLEARANCE Price, etc.. and hopefully pick up more items which is not on your shopping list or what you intended to buy also.., also for items with multiple brands like sugar or flour, usually the budget or cheaper price brand is at the lower rack, so your eyes see the brands that the mall want you to buy more of.. it usually dun work for items where there is brand loyalty, like shampoo for example as ppl will look for what they normally use, but for items where ppl dun care much for brands like sugar, salt, flour, tissues, general use items, they will put brands that cost more in the eye level rows, while cheaper brands are placed lower.

This is so that kids who walk by will see the items, like a candy bar..and grab it and their parents will pay for it.. it is also placed at checkout so that a kid may grab a candy while the parents are checking out.

Living in Japan and only referring to this store as Don Quijote or Donki, it is weird to hear "Don! Don! Donki!" all the time.
At first, I thought it was just a gimmick this documentary/investigative report made to hint at the store's catchy song. But the more it was mentioned, the more doubt I had. And then they showed the store name, and I was not prepared. LOL. So weird.

The original name is "Don Quijote" and in Japan, it has always been "Don Quijote" or "Donki". So hearing that the store is not only called another name and even use that name in its storefronts, it's a bit off-putting.
Japan refers to Starbucks as スタバ(Sta-ba-) but the store itself is still officially called スターバックス(sta-baksu).
I am not saying "Don! Don! Donki!" is "weird-bad". I'm saying it's weird in a way that it feels off to me.

It happened during the time when customers found wiggly worms on their sushi. With such a hap hazard layout, it doesn't surprise me that their hygiene control is just as hazardous. Hope it never happens again.

Don Don Donki, the largest Japanese mega store in Singapore, attracts over 1 million customers daily with its 13,000 different types of items on its shelves. The store intentionally overwhelms shoppers with its messy and claustrophobic layout to encourage them to spend more time looking through the products. The store's playlist, arranged by its IT team, is a mixture of Japanese songs and its own "Miracle Shopping" song, which is played two to three times within 15 minutes. The store aims to distract customers into staying longer and buying more, a technique known as the "groin effect." The store is a treasure trove of unusual products, such as a dental peeling sponge, big fish SN, and savory crab ice cream. The store also employs a 1.7m-tall inventory robot, named PAL, which uses an infrared camera and two RF scanners to navigate the store and capture data on the RFID tags of all products. PAL can do more inventory work in one night than seven humans can do in a month.

If you visit the Hawai'i Don Quijote stores, you'll be sorely disappointed. BTW they play the same song every 15 minutes in Hawai'i.

i swear I enter Donki to buy one thing and end up with a basket full of stuff and an empty wallet. So now to prevent myself from overbuying, I just go to Donki twice a year. If i have to buy something at Donki, I set a timer. If i can't find within that time, then I ask the staff lor. Helps save my wallet. Otherwise go broke in Donki

Donki treats Singapore as a dumping ground for soon to expire products. And the prices they charge for that crap is stupendous. They keep all the fresh stuff at home in Japan.

@@twist777hz Proof? The expiry dates for most products in Donki SG don't last beyond 2 months. Buy a plane ticket to Japan and check out Don Quijote yourself.

@@twist777hzInstant noodles. Snacks. Miso soup packs etc . List goes on. You go to Japan often and you weren't interested to find out? Some products in Donki SG expire in less than 01 month.

@@ipanmei3380 Why would I be interested? The products you listed can be bought in Japan at any convenience store, supermarket, or online. Not many people go to Donki to buy those. Your post caught my attention because you made some pretty bold claims like "dumping ground" and "keep all the fresh stuff in Japan". Just so you know, Donki and other discount stores -- regardless of country -- tend to sell products with short expiry dates anyway (this is a major reason they can keep prices low). I only buy at Donki stuff that I know I'm going to use or consume immediately. But like I said I'll take a look next time I'm in Japan.

due to space limitations of having 6 different departments separated by the most common type of sports, managers of each department decide what products to carry. and upfront, its also trying encourages more people to use the website and app. the app web is actually also used as a marketplace to sell brands like yonex, wilson and even samsung's galaxy watches from what i see. so basically like online shopping. types are products sells also looks at how well the specific type is doing, so if it as well in the store, theh might slowly phase it out.
hope you find this info well. have a good day!

People always talk about casinos being disorientating and all these no clock no windows tricks that they are pulling.
Little do they know the stores are slowly taking such techniques learnt and implementing it into the daily lives of shoppers around the world.

Well, well, well... Dear Singaporeans, if you have a lifelong return and exchange policy with no conditions at your Decathlon stores, enjoy this opportunity!
Here in France, even for members, it's limited to 1 year, and the product must be in perfect condition...
