    Running vacuum from all four runners to one vacuum rail and then run MAP and break boost from it should clean up map a little and maybe even help brakes

    This is super cool, I do have a question though. With running these carbs, could you make a plenum box that surrounds the end of the trumpets and adapts to a diameter where you could still run the factory afm? Or would there not be enough airflow through the afm into the stacks to properly modulate the flapper door in the meter? I would imagine that this would work similarly to how an R32-R34 intake manifold would work, seeing as they also use afm's, but instead of fuel injectors being post itb/pre-engine, it would be carbs replacing the whole itb/injector setup. I have strongly considered doing an MX5 swap into my MGB, but I really am not interested in all extra electrical aspects of the swap. This sounds about perfect.

    • @WhatUpTKHere
      @WhatUpTKHere  3 года назад

      If you ran the factory AFM, you’d be eliminating most of the benefit of the carbs by having that restriction in place. It wouldn’t work well at all I’m afraid.

  • @LukeCathanDoherty

    how did you deal with the fuel pressure difference between the 40psi of the standard setup and the 2-3psi of the carbs ?? wouldn't the pump overpower most regulators? what did you do with the return line? I think the return line just vents under the car

    • @WhatUpTKHere

    I’m planning on putting a pair a Su HS4s on my 1.6, can’t stand the pathetic throttle response anymore. If I understand this correctly I can just rip all the junk out and bolt the carbs up with the correct manifold, fuel pressure regulator, throttle linkage and it’ll run and drive no problem?? And then at a later date I can build a something to sort out the timing.? Would a throttle potion sensor be a direct replacement plug and play for the old air flow or would I need extra circuit to get that to work. . Any etc info would be greatly appreciate, mechanical I’m fine with electronic not so much

    • @WhatUpTKHere
      @WhatUpTKHere  3 месяца назад

      Yeah, so Evan's set up did run without the timing circuit sorted. I can't remember exactly how Norman Garrett recommended setting it up but his book might mention how to use a Throttle Position Sensor. Might be a bit easier than the MAP sensor hack.

    • @LukeCathanDoherty
      @LukeCathanDoherty 3 месяца назад

      Ah nice, I’ll try and find the book and see what it says. Would I need to do anything else to make carbs work or can I just bolt them up and away I go ? The car is a daily so can’t have it off the road More than a day or so, I’ll fine tune and tweak etc on the go so to speak. All my other cars run carbs so tuning them is no issue

  • @PH-x

    I need to look into doing this too I has a piggy back ecu wired in atm that controls in wonder in It can be used the same way that or maybe run injectors tuned on low rates in the manifold under my webber carby setup hmmm would probably be to much fueling for a na

      There’s a variety of ways to do it. I’d reach out to one of the U.K. based companies that does kits and ask them exactly what you need to do this. Evans setup, as you saw here, was assembled from a variety of parts from the second-hand market and thus is not easily replicable in exactly the same way.

      Very similar to ITBs, you’re improving airflow into the engine with this setup, and gaining a little power. You can also tune them to suit cams or other upgrades unlike EFI.
      Also the throttle response is magnificent.
      It’s not a huge Hp gain or anything, but it’s a fun way to go.

    • @GeneralNOH
      @GeneralNOH 5 лет назад +1

      @@WhatUpTKHere i would think that EFI would allow for better tuneability with an ecu upgrade, however i can see how something mechanical like carbs would improve throttle response.

      I'd say, probably a carb is cheaper than an ECU upgrade, plus if you don't have the necessary tools, but want to tune it at home, it is easier with a carb. Obv. EFI is better, if you have the tool, and the money for the ECU.
      Although I guess dual webers are more expensive than an ECU but idk, lol :D
