Excited to watch this review - I am listening to all my Genesis records in order currently - I watch your videos every day - maybe will bump into you at SoundExchange one of these days! Northern New Jersey loves you :)
I am enjoying the 3LP set, as a fan who doesn't have all the bootlegs I feel it is worth it. Also they were such a great live band for their entire career. It is nice to have a broad range of tracks. Also love these BBC sets...such a great time capsule of a bygone era.
Hi Brendon. Happy that I bought it. Not every day that my favorite band releases a reissue box set. It is my birthday this month so this is truly a gift. Thank you Rhino. Tony Banks and all involved. Thanks for the video. Enjoy you know I will
@@rabarebra I meant a new release box set. I want to thank whoever and all responsible for this release that i did not see coming.. a real gift.. I don't know it all.... all I know is that I am one of the biggest Genesis fans ever and want to thank them for this release. Thanks for pointing that out.
For me I need to own all of the band’s albums and really know each one before doing a ranking. Still missing a few early albums from the band and while I know their later era very well the early years have never really clicked with me. But perhaps somewhere down the road I’ll do one after I’ve digested their music more.
Please note of the bbc tracks available. Suppers ready was already released in the past. The box set was done in a way so that you don’t get repetitive tracks except for los endos 78 and 87.
@@BrendonSnyder you can tell a difference in the performance of the 78 version of the track versus the 87 version. It interesting to note that during the fountain of salmacis when the Mellotron starts playing during the gtr solo, someone at the control desk lowers the gtr because the guy thinks it’s a gtr effect.
Hey Brendon! Thanks for the review. I was still on the fence about buying this one. Was hoping for a DVD or 2 in the box, one of the shows I don't have. Oh well, it is what it is. The price is good so we shall see. Thanks for the vid.😎
I agree that the way they cut the shows on the cd's is weird. I also wonder why they didn't release the full shows (certainly they played more tracks on the Knebworth shows). Was it all that the BBC broadcasted maybe? Anyway, I'm glad they released it. Cheers.
I will be getting mine tomorrow, so really looking forward to hearing the music. Thanks for the review. Brendan usually great job by the way where has noodle been hiding??
Noodle now has a whole house so he disappears when I start recording and doesn’t get seen in the background like before. Although I wish he would join me, he doesn’t seem to want to be on camera.
@@BrendonSnyder well, I was concerned that something happened to him but I feel better that he’s still running around in the house. He’s a cat so it’s his prerogative to join the video or not lol.
Great stuff, Brendon, thanks for the review. Long time Genesis fan here, but they are notorious for cheaping out on extra swag in their box sets, like with the Archive editions. I still love the band, but often, I don’t think they deserve the fan-base they have. I know folks who had personal interactions with them too, that were less than friendly.
A lot of the very early material in this boxset is already in the 1970-1975 boxset. I wish they released these BBC recordings in SACD/DVD-audio and 5.1 for this price, as they have spent absolutely no work in putting it together other than doing a bit mastering. The work were already done. It is also a pity that the vinyl version doesn't have all the tracks, and instead of a triple gatefold, it could've been a box of 5-6 LPs.
52 tracks, 39 unreleased, that means 13 have been released before. That’s not even half, if fact it’s only one quarter! With 75% being unreleased, I don’t consider that a lot. I think it’s pretty good.
@@BrendonSnyder I know, I ment the early 70's, even before the Trespass, but anyway, I had a lot of the Duke concert already on DVDs before this release, the full show, in fact, and in good quality. It is the same guys that also released the full Wembley show (which actually has multitracks - so Genesis could easily done a proper remix of it). Nothing here is really unreleased. Maybe first time on vinyl, yes, agree.
Brendon, I agree with you on the stuff where the Wembley show starts and continues and the way the shows are broken down. But all in all a great set to have. I was hoping that we would get Tonight Tonight Tonight at Wembley, because on other releases that song is so shortened. But I’m glad to get this Boxset for my boxset collection by Genesis. I’m always up for a new release Phil Collins Genesis etc. Thank you for this review.
@@PJHVols glad you agree with me fellow Genesis fan etc. They really didn’t have to release anything, but when they do Boy it’s a big one. Great lists on the CDs. Glad to meet you.
The full Wembley-show exist on DVD, with surround, and it sounds and looks fantastic even today. It's not a considered an official release. It is released by FNM. Maybe licensed or something, I don't know. I've had it for two decades already. Same with the Duke content. Full show on DVD also from FNM.
@@rabarebra now that the whole Catalog of Genesis belongs to Concord we’ll have to see what they do with all this stuff. They need to recoup their money somehow. We shall wait and see.
That’s what they claim. Same with the earlier era. They even say in the book that it’s surprising how little was actually recorded from the early years.
Box set is a loose term now the Box part They could beef them up a bit so you get a big booklet and other good stuff like the stone’s tattoo you Goats head soup some girls pay more but you get a awesome package
Yeah a boxset used to mean collected together music not just multi-format. I hate “boxsets” that are just a single album in 3 formats like CD, LP, and Blu-ray.
@@BrendonSnyder I respect your opinion. I have to disagree with the latter thing you say here. I really do like Jethro Tull's boxset with CD, LP and Blu-ray. I love vinyl records and I love surround blu-ray's. Jethro always release their albums in both stereo and mixed in 5.1 - love that. Wished Genesis did this with this BBC boxset, just like they did with the 2008 boxsets.
I'm in the "don't buy it, it's another botched box" camp. It doesn't just fail to meet its objectives, it thoroughly embarrasses the makers. As I was just saying somewhere else - since it's obvious that the only reason they've released this box set is to compete with those legitimised-bootlegs that are now ubiquitous, there's really no excuse for not making it an 8 or 9 disc box with everything in its proper place. (Reissue specialists' lesson - to compete in the grey-market challenge, don't be like the Zappa trust, be more like the King Crimson court)
Brandon - the best compliment I can give you is that I watched this whole video and I'm not even a fan of Genesis.
That does say a lot. Thank you! 🙏

Genesis always played prog until the end; it just wasn't their primary focus in the '80s and '90s.
That’s debatable.
