That's not the filter; that's the pickup for the valve body. It does a little bit of filtration, yeah, but the real filter is a spin-on unit behind the battery on the cooler lines.
hi, haha once again same comment ! yes, subaru call it a strainer. a strainer is still a filter....if you are lucky and have the spin on filter then change it, some have a cartridge filter that can only be replaced with trans removal. make sure you add additional magnets to trans pan and regularly clean them otherwise they cant collect more magnetic debris once they are fully covered ( non magnetic debris should be caught in strainer, spin on filter or filter cartridge ). having said all that, the choice is always yours to make from your research and experience. thanks for that info. cheers
Any tips that you can suggest when performing the hot check, with regards to getting consistent readings on the dipstick after adding oil . Struggling with the level on the dipstick. Smears past the hot mark. Transmission is not overfilled. Just struggling for consistent readings thanks. Is it a matter for the engine to idle for a longer period. Any suggestions welcome. No problems on the cold check.
hi, sometimes you need to dip the stick quicker and take the lower level mark. occasionally you might need to get someone to turn off vehicle and check quickly if there is splashing in the trans. cheers
Hello there i just did the filter and fluid change and already put 7.5 L in it ,but i cant get a proper good look at the dipstick only the tip at the bottom looks red , any recommendations?
Hi. Thanks for putting this video up. I am about to service my 2010 3.6r Premium. (same colour too). It has an occasional odd shift when it shifts up at around 80kph. It happens during mild acceleration, transitioning into cruising. Its only occaisional, and it only seams to happen when cold. It feels like it hangs up on the shift. And can't make its mind which gear is engaged. Like maybe 2 gears are on at once. Only lasts for about a second. But it definitely doesn't feel right. Im hoping a fluid and filter change will fix it. Car has only done 117,000km, even though it's 11yrs old. Any reason why you would use the cork gasket over RTV sealant? Is it just because the service kit came with one? And would it be better to also drain and re-fill the fluid after a drive? Alot more fluid is tied up inside the box and radiator than the 6L you replaced. They hold close to 10L from what I can tell. I am getting a 20L drum of Penrite full syn ATF. My plan is to drain fluid, refill, drive, drain fluid, remove pan and change filter, refill, and then drain and refill one last time. I hope to renew asmuch of the fluid as possible, including what's tied up in the gears, and what's in the radiator too. Hoping a 20L drum will allow for that many drain/refills.
hi, sounds like you might have a sticky or contaminated solenoid and/or valve. transmission oil is only oil until you put it into transmission. it then becomes transmission fluid. in a hydraulic application fluid is what moves things. it does provide lubrication as well as other properties contained in the trans oil, but mainly is there to move things hydraulically. for this reason, we only change the fluid that comes out when you drop the transmission pan, sometimes we might also connect vacuum pump to the trans cooling lines and suck out the top half of the fluid in the torque converter as well. but, we only do a complete or multiple fluid change if coolant/water has entered the trans. by just replacing fluid that comes out when you remove trans pan and filter is usually enough to bump up the fluid properties. often if the trans is old and worn, and has internal pressure leaks, if you do a complete fluid change it can make your trans operate worse than before the service. this happens because new fluid is thinner than old contaminated fluid, and thinner fluid will pass through any internal leaks much quicker and easier. just do a regular filter service and add magnets to pan and you should get longer life out of your trans. i recommend when trans has done under 200,000km do service every 50,000km, then when has done over 200,000km do service every 25,000km or once a year. you owe me a beers for that speel, cheers
@@YepThatsIt my Liberty has a spin on filter(factory) for the trans oil cooler in the guard behind the battery, after further research it has both an in pan and inline filter.

Mechanic had said it's valve body needs replacing and it would be cheaper to replace entire transmission. Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🤯
hi, at that mileage i`d doubt the valve body is worn. it is more than likely contaminated solenoids, as the dealerships push this "sealed for life " bs on customers....and i doubt the transmission has been serviced with pan off.......i have quizzed them ( many different manufacturers at trans seminars..not the ones in your town/suburb...the higher up personel ) on this , and apparently they have left out a few crucial words....sealed for life actually means = sealed for life of the warranty ! they dont service transmissions while vehicle is under warranty i wouldnt take to a mechanic, take it to an automatic transmission specialist as mechanics rarely know how to repair transmissions, this is why they push for a complete transmission change....having said all that at 90km it should still be under manufacturers warranty anyway....keep on them about the issue. cheers

What was the reason for changing the filter? if the filter was clogged with internal contaminants such as loose clutch pack material, simply changing it only costs more money and prolongs the inevitable transmission overhaul.
Would you rather do a trans overhaul now or in 30,000 miles. Prolonging the transmission from failing is exactly why you would replace the filter. How quickly do you want to spend 4000 for the transmission to be replaced?
Hi, for a MKII Subaru Legacy 2.0GT JDM SI drive (2007) if I already have the filter (38325AA032) inside the left wing just behind the headlight do I need to change the filter inside the trans? Which one it is, the plastic or metal one? Thanks.
hi, if no coolant in trans fluid - no need to flush trans. when we do a flush we connect vacuum line to the cooling line, however the bottom half of torque converter to bottom of neck will still contain fluid, some will also be behind pistons and remain in nooks & crannies in the trans. if your traans fluid is very dark/burnt, then usually a complete flush will make it worse as the new fluid will be thinner than the contaminated fluid. when fluid is very dark/burnt means your trans is on a limited life span anyway - not even golden syrup will help for long. cheers
