That road is NOT for the faint-hearted. But hey, I'm still here to tell the tale, so... all is well that ends well, right? 😜 Albania is still one of those travel destinations where you can really go off the beaten path and dive into spontaneous adventures anywhere. This village, high in the mountains of Southern Albania, was the perfect destinations to explore the area.
I'd like to give a big THANK YOU to: Petrit and Dushe, our hosts, who welcomed us into their beautiful guesthouse, The House on Canyon ( / bujtina.mbi.kanion_gue... , with open arms. And of course my friends over at Drive Albania ( / drivealbania , who showed me around Albania in their awesome Niva Lada 4x4. Can't wait to be back in 2021!

Yes but not permanently. It could be my summer home.
Hallo Eva 😘😘
Only you ! Just hearing your scream will take a lot of nerves 🤣
I love you
Yeah definitely will take
My father is Italian, and this looks just like the village my family is from back in Italy, even the inside of the homes! Love to my Albanian brothers and sisters 🇦🇱❤️🇮🇹
Can I ask the name of the village?
@@jorgeh.r9879 so the village where my family is from is called Bonefro, in the Molise region
Italians are the best person and humanity makes them really unbeaten ! Ask an Italian in road for directions they help you ask in France and French don’t help you , so what are Italians for me?! They are like the salt in humanity story ! Really really good people and many things to learn from Them !
Always welcomed from Albania !

@@timruccs9680 Greetings from Albania. We love Italy and Italian people.
They even sound like Italians. For me the sound of a language is quite similar ( don’t speak italian or albanian :-)
I spent 9 weeks in Albania. Swimming in the sea while looking at mountains was really surreal as I had never been anywhere like that before. Eating lamb at a restorant built in a mountain side and cave. Learning to speak Shqip. Une jam Amerikan dhe flet shqip :).Playing games with my nephews on Lungomare in Vlora. Making friends with the kind Albanianian people. My wife is Albanian and we had our wedding there. There was a bit more dancing than a standard American wedding lol. We had a beautiful wedding. Albania is a beautiful place.
Where is the restaurant built on mountainside? Going in May =)

Kruja in Albania is a city hero ! And Krutans people living in Kruja are great people and very welcoming ! Thanks for the help to Albania 🙏🏻
One Albanian folk proverb says: "Your house belongs first to God, then to your visitor, and only after that to you" (maybe I did not manage to translate it properly, but anyway...). Albanians are very welcoming and generous people. Greetings from Slovakia!
True. And another one:"bukë e krypë e zëmër t bardhë" =bread&salt&white heart(my grand grand parents lived their lives in a remote area just like Petrit and Dusha, if they had a visitor all the family would starv for the time they were hosting but the visitor would eat, as it was poverty you can guess what was offered :)

I really like the sentiment off that and I agree but I cant promise it will always look perfect and be 100% tidy but my guests always come first for sure
@@BennyDACHO you are right, many nations claim that they are welcoming. But very few really prove it. I was working as a hotel rep and tour guide in Albania for three summer seasons and I can confirm, that such level of hospitality is uncompared in Europe. Only in Middle East. The poorer the people are, the more welcoming are they, in generally. Try to come to a house visit in Germany, Netherlands or Belgium. They will get you literally NOTHING. :)
My Polish grandmother also used to say that when I would visit her in Poland.
it means...so the house would always be in a good care. if you think it's only you living there in the house, it depends on your mood of how it's going to be.
Traveled the world for the past 55 years. This is the only time I felt jealous of your beautiful experience. Best of health.
What a truly beautiful country Albania is and how truly hospitable its people are. Yes indeed, the risks were there with these damp rain-soaked roads but Nivas are sturdy and very capable offroaders, at the end of the day this trip was well worth it, very enjoyable. I must say that the nature of Albania is quite similar to my country's Lebanon.
Thank you. I have seen Lebanon( on TV) and it is quite similar like Albania, but this area is the South of Albania, a bit drier, but if you see the North and East of Albania is lush green and spectacular. Albania is surrounded by the Alps in the North, it's just an amazing place, full of rivers, lakes and streams. Literally everywhere you go in Albania, is just spectacular because there isn't a single place in Albania without mountains on the background. Cheers from Albania to Lebanon!
@@ireneshqipe1353 I very much hope that one day when Lebanon would return to some form of normality, that I would be able to visit Albania. I believe that people like me owe so much to Eva who takes so much time and dedication in her Vlogs to show the true side of people and country. On a side note I very much believe that as Albania grows in popularity, that its pristine nature will be preserved, here at least I am reflecting my nature as a person who cares so very much for the environment. Thank you Irene, may God bless your beautiful country and your lovely people, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and to all the viewership here.

Interesting
As an Albanian I knew about this place. They got the wrong way to go up there. This road is getting constructed from Tepelena side and the seaside one and this village it will turn into an elite touristic place. Sweden is investing heavily in this village as the road when it finishes it brings you to the seaside for less than 40 minutes. Our Prime minister was yesterday up there to check how the work in the road is going on and it is a wonderful place, if you see it in a good weather.

Nivica is very beautiful as the rest of Albania. I still have to go there. It's my mother's origin from Nivica. Albanians lived on the top of mountains to be unreachable from enemies. In a village near Nivica, also in mountains during the otoman occupation, Sopoti, when ottomans reached the village (the men of village were all killed in the battle) the women for not to end up on enemies hands, jumped off the cliffs with their kids in hands. Hi David! I've seen your videos of Albania and I could say that Albania has changed a lot since you were there. As for Covid, Albanians are a bit too easy going about it. They haven't got that much measures in place and usually they don't follow rules. Apart from night clubs closed, restaurants, bars are all open all day long. You are supposed to keep a mask outside, but outside of Tirana nobody adhere to these rules.
@@AVDanielViolin don‘t listen to this person, they‘re talking bullshit. The virus situation there is not horrible but bad. You shouldn‘t travel anywhere right now in general
@@Evelyn_Noname thank you, I will be very careful.
Albania is open for foreign visitors, and we'd love you to come.
The rules are:
Curfew 22.00-06.00 (in reality the bars and restaurants close at 22.00, and the police won't stop you as you walk home).
Masks to be worn in public places, but NOT bars, cafés and restaurants. This rule is widely ignored.
No groups of more than 10 people.
That's about it. Life is very normal, and everyone I've spoken to is grateful to live in a country with such a light-touch approach. It's very hard to understand the global reaction and mass hysteria elsewhere. It doesn't seem proportionate to the threat posed by Covid.
From testing, the government estimates that about 50% of people in Tirana have already had Covid. Most didn't notice it, some showed mild symptoms, an unlucky few had severe flu-like symptoms and a tiny number get admitted to hospital. For Albania as a whole, the govt estimates 25% have passed Covid.
If you need a PCR test before leaving, it can be done easily, within 24 hours, at a cost of around USD$80.

@Yair Almassi Evreuklovic stop being mean 😪 just keep your anger to your self we love Albania
@Yair Almassi Evreuklovic First of all, right now only losers are in Greece, the farmers who work there only during seasons and historically Greece has had the lowest educated Albanians and criminals who broke out from Communism prisons.
The educated emigrants are in Western Europe and in America.
Secondly, if you are a Greek or a Slavic neighbour, why don't you ask yourself why are you as well around Europe, emigrating and working there the same way as we are?
If you are a German or an English I wouldn't say a thing. As for others, starting from Italy, Spain, Portugal,Greece, Eastern Europe we are all in the same basket - all emigrants including you yourself.
Who are you kidding here? LMFAO.!
P.s. I've never been to Athens,( never got my interest) and I've travelled a lot ( USA included).
I'm blown off by the confidence of that man(Ardi?) behind those wheels!!! He looks so sure of himself, ideal rugged man.
Are they in a relationship? They seem so comfortable around each other & they would make a cute couple.
I have had the pleasure to meet and befriend people from there and they are very friendly and sweet - Great video (mirupafshim) :)
Wow what a beautiful scenery. Awesome. People are so genuinely friendly outside of big cities. 👌👍🤩

What a stuning village... Rakija party 🎉🎉🎉 Well done girl
hahahah
That village is the epitome of "picturesque".
You should see it in spring when everything is blooming. Now it is winter..
Albania is wonderful 😍❤🇦🇱
I spent 3 months in Tirana in 1992 (not long after dictator Enver Hoxha's reign), teaching at the university there. What a fun and adventurous time I had there (including fighting off a couple of muggers, one night)! Power outages were a daily occurrence, and we had candles ready to be lit, on every table around the house. Cooking was done on a petroleum stove. I'd love to go there again to see it now!
You would be surprised if you see Albania now... It's a new world there now. Every year it surprises me as an Albanian when I return there and see the changes around.
I encourage you to visit it again. ( it still has its uniqueness, but its so different from before).
I am Albanian, born and raised about one hour drive from this place.
Yet I never been in the Nivica area.
Thank you for showing us how beautiful this place is. 👏👏🇦🇱
Been to Thethi in the north a few times was the only visitor in the village 2010 2011. Then took the trail over the mountains to Valbona.
cool! how did you find that place and arranged where to stay and where and how to go explore? Albania seems super beautiful and raw, simple living and I like it.
@@originalmix2546 The first time I went by myself took a bit of planning in 2010 I could travel from literally one end of the country for 20 dollars US easily. Would like to return to see how things have changed in the past decade. I do like to get off the big tourist trails.
@@692ALBANNACH You'd probably be surprised on how much things have changed make sure to visit the south parts like Korça, Pogradec , Saranda
@@692ALBANNACH things have changed now there are so many tourists there now it’s crazy
@@georgeskanderbeg3242 Good thing I went a decade ago guess the magic will be gone. I know there was a bit of new construction starting fall 2011.
I live in Albania and I didn't knew this place existed 🥺
Now you would want to plan to go there 💛👍

So beautiful, Subhan Allah. Reminds me of Himalayan village life in Pakistan 40 years ago before the advent of internet and mobile phone.
Eating, drinking, travelling seeing new places and meeting new people. What a life!!!!!!
