Have a fake bomb sound effect device in a fake package, it checks if it is shaken and moved, then starts emitting a 'beeping' sound a few minutes after it's taken, the volume starts off low until 5 minutes later when it gets loud enough to be heard standing by it. The thief will stare at the package in the car and freak out. Then calls the cop to get the bomb squad on it. When they dismantle it, and find out it's not a bomb, they'll find a message in it that it's a bait trap that the thief stole.
