So how can The Lions attack the Boks? | ANALYSIS DEEP DIVE

- For almost two decades, one of rugby's finest coaches has been hounded by one word: "Warrenball". Now, as the Warren in question prepares for one of the biggest tests of his career, he's having to assemble a gameplan far beyond 'Warrenball' to try and beat the best team in the world. So what hint and suggestions do we have as to how the Lions might take on the Springboks, and are there any weaknesses they could exploit?
You can support me on Doddmaster, raising money for My Name'5 Doddie here- www.justgiving...
If you've enjoyed any of the channel's content, you can also support Squidge Rugby on Patreon by visiting / squidgerugby , so I can perhaps afford to reply to one of those emails I get saying "Get a penis as big as Rassie Erasmus"
I imagine Rassie and Warren both panic and change their gameplans now that Squidgy has perfectly predicted them.
Italy’s defense is like SA but shit🤣🤣😂😂 had me dying.
Sure
that comment had me floored
As a South African I can't wait till the Boks hire you as a rugby analyst.
Squidge! You know Rassie is watching this, don't give away too much!
I was thinking the same thing
Rassie plays chess while Squidge is playing checkers 😁 rassie is a master tactician
@@nathanvandermerwe Jeez, Your comment's just Plain Stupid.
😂😂😂😂
@@nathanvandermerwe no, he plays wakamole and rassie plays gears tactics
There's watching rugby and then there's watching Ireland lose to Japan on holiday in Ireland. This is the most underrated rugby channel on youtube.
“Drawn to North like he’s a banned substance” 😂😂
LMAO - Well played Squidge 😂😂
Definitely my favourite part of the video :)
> Has to leave house in 20 minutes
> Decides to browse RUclips for 15 minutes

I played for 35 years (honest) and squidge has a better understanding of the game than most commentators 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Squidge you HAVE to make a video about the insane Bristol vs Quins match. You simply HAVE to
The ‚just the try and the potential card‘ highlights are 7 minutes. The whole thing under Squidge would need an hour!
this would be amazing tbh i agree
💯
And then one about the possibly even more insane Exeter v Quins final...
Does anyone know if there is somewhere where I can watch the full game?
I was scraming like a fan boy when I saw squidge in Chasing the Sun.
selle
Me too!! I also love that they let squidge breakdown the finals flying wedge
Where can I watch it?

thank you so much for these videos. As a Canadian who loves rugby and loves what the Lions represent, this vid hypes the tour and deepens my love of the game
As a SAen it makes me nervous lol. We loose to expansive gameplans more often than any other.
I'm very much in the same boat!
Same, from Montréal, getting together with local Saffa friends and looking forward to the agony and the ecstasy.
“Rob Howley: bookies favorite” he thought we wouldn’t notice but we did!

Can't believe I never caught this. That is the beauty of Squidge, his videos keen on giving even after the 2nd or 3rd watching.
I heard it but don't get it
@@iarladonlon2826 he was suspended as Wales' attack coach for betting on them in the 2019 RWC
@@magnuspeacock5857 weird that you can't bet for your own team. The other team would make sense but don't they always bet for their own team so to speak?
'A team who want to break your spirit instantly, and get worse and worse the longer you stay in the fight' - the best description of Eddie Jones' England during the last world cup cycle I've ever heard.
I always love Squidge's similes and metaphors.
"Octopus in a scrum hat"
I've always wondered how a Squidge vs Jeremy Clarkson metaphor competition would go down....
2009 was also the same for me. A guy who watched Wales with his dad to an obsession. Let's hope we get the same kind of tour 🤞
Love how you showed us how you record these 20 minute, no pause monologues. You pulled back the curtain squidge!
If the answer isn’t throwing 15 Mishes at them, I’ll be disappointed
What about 15 Tadghs? You can decide the Beirne/Furlong split 😂
@@a7uiop seriously, a forwards pack made up of 3 tadghs and 5 tadghs would actually be properly decent I reckon.
At 3:05 "He's not gonna show this whole passage is he? Oh yes he is!". Best ever Scotland try?
As a Scot it was good but not quite Duhan's 84th minute winner vs France for the complete lack of ability to speak I had the next day.
I think that other try (that squidge also showed in its entirety) against SA was also pure sex.
I was thinking that too!
Insanely awesome content. Can't believe we're getting this for free
I think we are going to get a brilliant game against Japan. I cant wait to see how the Japan team has evolved since the world cup
7:31 'The winger is drawn to North like he's a banned substance' has me REELING!
"The winger is drawn to North like a banned substance" 💀💀💀
This could be epic
Will hopefully
I was half-expecting a national geographic type video about lions and springboks
Or an epic failure for the boks, they haven't played against an international opponent since the world cup. If the bulls match was any sign SA is in for some pain
@@Just_JasonZA DO YOU KNOW BULLS had two teams playing that day and all their springboks removed. talk about skeleton staff. LOL.
@@RabbitholeIsrael yes I do know, they unfortunately got thrashed in both matches. Let's just hope the boks have enough in the tank for this lions team
The one Squidge video I cant wait to see is the Harlequins vs Bears analysis.
I dont think anyone can say that Squidge doesn't like Scotland Rugby. And as someone from Edinburgh, I approve this message.
I love watching you videos, they are an amazing insight to the side of rugby most don't understand, like me for example.
So informative, entertaining and insightful. The effort put into this delivery would've held up a bok 5m scrum! Thx. Speculating on the various complexities of strategy - as satisfying as it may be - doesn't cover the basic challenge I believe the boks present: How to compete against their 6-2 split. i.e. How to survive 50min with the worlds' best forward pack, then survive the remainder with the world's 2nd best pack - fresh from the bench. Can't wait for the Lions tour to begin in earnest - and seeing the exciting combos... Come on bokke!!
This is what we have been waiting for
An absolute legendary video. I wonder whether future Lions tours should have two weeks between test matches to give Squidge the time to do the video between each one.
But seriously, your level of analysis is at a pro level. Have you had anyone approach you to take on any analytics roles? If you were doing this level in the NFL you'd be earning $$$.
"Like a banned substance"
A low blow 😂
The thing I really like about Squidge's pre tour analysis is that it effectually gives you two games for the price of one. The first being the game itself and the second how that game was played out and whether or not the tactics unfolded as predicted.
I heard that the WRU paid for Byrne to have his arms surgically replaced with giraffe necks.
Marvellous Squidge - as hard as the wait is it is always worth it!!!
I've been checking the channel everyday, religiously.. waiting.. My prays have been answered 😭the world doesn't deserve this content 👏👏💥💥
Brilliant Analysis, I feel the tricky part for the lions is to base how the Springboks will play on how they played 2019? I doubt the boks might play the same way after exposing most of everything in the Chasing the sun Documentary. It should be an interesting series
Squidge on form as ever!
I've been watching rugby since the Lions tour of Australia 1989 and haven't understood the game as well as I should.
Your analysis is very impressive. Thanks.
I've been struggling to get interested in this tour. But this deep analysis has made me more excited than anything else I've seen anywhere, especially in MSM.
Thanks, Squidge. Bring on the Boks
7:31 "The winger is drawn to North like he's a banned substance" 😂😂😂
Excellent analysis, very good insight 👍🏽
“Everyone’s favourite pug in a wig” 😂
You could say that in the wild and still every rugby fan within earshot would instantly know whom you're reffering to.
I noticed Murray’s speed of ball delivery has drastically increased in the Japan game. He must have been working hard knowing he has to deal with Faf de clerk it really showed he was moving that ball from the floor to the backs with amazing speed.
While not as fast as the legendary Peter Stringer or his likely successor the equally diminutive Craig Casey, his speed of delivery is usually related to the quality of ball he receives. Too often recently his Irish and Munster packs have been on the back foot leaving him few options other than a slow delivery as he waits for pods to form.
Squidge, you’re too good.. Stop giving away all our secrets!
he is working for rassie.
when he comes to the boks, he says he doesnt know what they will do. but with the lions he goes in to details of their every planned move, LOL

Why go to all this bother? The Saffers will already know the way the names sound, and thanks to the SA economy tanking and the quota system, we already know the names of 90% of the above. In any case, people watching from the UK will get the commentators giving them their pronunciations.
Just the way you hashed up "Cobus" creates more problems than it solves, as you have written it to sound as "KWObus", and I doubt if "de" is ever pronounced "duh", but "der".
Nice try, though. Hope it gave you something to do.
I thought Faf is pronounced Faf?
Shamelessly hooking this up to the big screen TV to be seen in all its glory
Brilliant as always, squidge. Thanks.

Yay!! been waiting for another video
Well that settles it. I'm very keen to watch this Lions v Books series. Bring it on!
Superb analysis. Surprised it didn't feature more of Hamish Watson because he is a teat starter for me and changes the way the Lions play based on his breakdown
This guy is just showing off. Squidge you are showing off. We like it.
I know the match analysts for each team watch squidge rugby videos. I have no doubt your single handedly influencing this campaign
Giving this a like before watching as you know this is gonna be a classic
This is straight up knowledge full stop. I am sending this to Rassie if he is not watching
It's amazing that you rarely get analysis half this good from professional pundits. Fair play Squidge!
Now I’m even more hyped for this series
this video made me want Huw jones in the squad even more
I love videos like this that breaks down each team's style and the intricacies of their strategies
Hi Squidge. I'm a Springbok supporter and love your match analysis! If it's not too much trouble, please may you make the same video as this one, but from a Springbok point of view. Understandably, considering you're supportive of the B&I Lions, it may not be something you'd be willing to do. Keep up the great work! :-)
Squidge , brilliant stuff , just wanted to say that your videos are top class and very entertaining and educational , thank you
Fantastic video mate! Excellent breakdown with some quality bants! New sub here!
Now we need analysis on how the boks will be playing against the lions
Based on the Boks' 2020 season? It's a short video that just says, "We're lucky to be having this series at all."
@@Hiltok I mean you talking about a team thats undefeated for almost two years now....so watch your mouth 😅
Excellent content. A rugby genius. I think an entire video should be made as to why Elliot Daly was picked ahead of Manu, Ringrose, Huw Jones and Slade
Easy answer : because he can kick goals from 55 metres in the UK, so on the high veldt that's 60 at least, and will help keep the Boks honest deeper inside their half - should he ever get selected, that is. If it goes into the third test with the series still alive, expect him on the bench for the tiebreaker.
"Like putting a skipping rope in a crisp packet" I love it! Another great video analysis, thanks!
Thank you Squidge fantastic analysis
As a South African, I find it hard that you have not received a phone call to be a Walsh couch analyst. Great videos. Love your fairness and your unbiased views. Frankly my prediction is that the Lions will win all three games because the Boks have not played any international Rugby since 2019 wc.

SQUIDGE WEARING A SUIT!!
Just watched the first episode of Chasing the Sun after Squidge's name drop. Good stuff, and... Squidge... In a suit!
Excellent analysis!
This is the best video Squidge has made yet
This is a great analysis... I also believe that Gatland is planning on attacking the gain line using forwards in unpredictable positions and I think that the inclusion of Aki is a sign that he's prepared for a more physical and faster game in the middle of the park...
However, the Springboks have selected what might possibly be the smallest (height & Weight) and fastest backline in their post-apartheid history.
Usually, the centres are huge, lanky enforcers with the power and ability to split defences and carry/crash the ball through the middle, and tough enough to act as secondary forwards at breakdowns.
Instead, they've chosen explosive runners who, for their respective clubs, are link-men aka 2nd flyhalfs, with the ability to distribute and kick to gain advantage and keep forward momentum, instead of crashing through a tackle and recycling.
Also, their forward pack is laced with the paciest loose and tight pack across this planet. The plan is definitely dominate and win every set piece, and force mistakes through brute force to win penalties/territory.The Du Preez twins, PSDT, Kolisi, De Jager, and Kwagga are there to gain extra mileage around contact points, but the real threats are the scrumhalfs, all of who are snipers and are opportunists at the breakdown and distribute the ball with precision as they are given the duty to make the call on what play is to be run.
I don't know if you can breakdown the Springbok's possible gameplan for the Lions given that they haven't played together for a while... But I look forward to it.
great video and analysis! Really enjoying your content

Your work is excellent mate. The best I have seen.
LOVE YOU SQUIDGY 💚💚💚💚💚
Excellent, thank you!
As usual top notch content squidge! But you know Rassie is always cunning with his resources, he can do a Yankees & Pollard, then use his wingers as knights and his pack as the knights of Lazarus,.
Glorious piece of work as always
Love You Squidge and I was ecstatic to see you in "chasing the sun"
👏🏻 Bravo. Just bravo. Such a great vid.
Fantastic ,entertaining analysis as usual.Thanks
I can't wait for it, two titans clashing!
Amazing analysis and presentation.
Brilliant analysis!! Rassie should employ you.
Honestly, as much as it pains me to say this but i dont think currently SA is as big as a threat/challenge as they were in 2019. The springboks haven't really played any international rugby for almost 2 years while the lions squad have. SA is still dealing with covid terribly with around 10k cases a day. I think that places a massive adv with the lions squad and the boks will be hard pressed indeed. Dare i say it... I think the boks may be the underdogs in this tour
I've got the same feeling. I'm hopeful that will mean the Lions winning well in the first game, and the Boks coming back massively in the 2nd to win. Hopefully setting up a humdinger of a final match.
About half the Bok squad have been playing outside of SA in EU tournaments - so I don't think my hope is misplaced
I think you are right. they should be very worried. I wouldn't have been so confident, but all that talk in the Saffa media about "hobbits" and "too many Scots" mean I now longer five a fuck, the gloves are off. I'm calling a 3-0 drubbing. They won't be able to contain Russel I think.
@@joeyfischler1031 as a springbok fan I am absolutely gobsmacked by the shit our media has been saying… Shocking and it casts us all in a bad light! Hopefully it will be a great and close series🙏
