We went to go watch the Springboks vs Australia in Johannesburg in July 2019 where Siya was the water boy for the team. By many this was seen as degrading, but to me it was a sign of a great leader. You always make me a very proud Springbok and Rugby fan - your analysis is spot-on. I think the scariest thing for other teams is, that 2019 was not ZA at their best, it was the groundwork for it. I think the next stage is going to be very interesting. Very well done video!

As an ex rhodesian who watched some great rhodesian rugby,I really enjoyed your commentary, well done, happy to subscribe, rugby union has come a long way and you have put the focus where it its important
This was amazing Squidge, and unexpected, so thank you so much. I just would like to add my two cents on the Alistair Coetzee tenure. I didn`t rate him highly as a coach, I still don`t, but he was also very unlucky. At the time he was appointed, the squad was rather old and many had retired. He was also appointed rather late, so he didn`t have as much time to get his house in order. Add to that the fact that only one of our franchises was really playing good rugby at the time, the Lions under Johann Ackermann, they made 3 super rugby finals at a time when SA teams were struggling to get there and they did so playing a very attractive brand of rugby. This together with the fact that at that time overseas players were not very welcomed into the Springboks, put a lot of pressure on Coetzee to put many of these Lions players in the Springboks setup and to play this attacking brand of rugby, however, that style doesn`t work as well at international level and Coetzee was also not like Ackermann, Coetzee was far more practical and defensive minded. If you add all these things up, and add the goal/threat of transformation by the governing bodies, it`s no wonder he had a terrible go at it.
This honestly brought me to tears, especially at the end when you started talking about the captain of the ship, Siya Kolisi. I thought your previous video of "So how did the Springboks beat England", was the best, this was even better. Great piece of work and insight shown.
Squidge, your hard work (and your brother's?) passion and ability to weave facts and figures into a narrative are ... amazing. If I had an award to give for the best sport analysis - you. Gold.
Just to say, regarding the Springboks' nerves of steel is largely thanks to rather rough pitches and somewhat poor weather conditions. Our playing environment has never been comfortable which is why in the 1995 RWC the Springboks were not only able to take on guys like Jonah Lomu but also quietly competed against each other to see who could get to him first. Tackling a person has always been softer and more comfortable than tackling the turf. So our guys, I'm a Saffa if you hadnt noticed, relished the challenge to tackle and which is why our scrums are one of our preferred forms of attack, its hard hitting and dominating. No one ever wants to hurt an opposition player but often do just because the Springboks can handle a lot. I love my team and I really love the diversity, its a much better representation of our country than it has been in previous years. Thank you Coach Erasmus and Captain Kolisi and team of course. One of the reasons our team had a lot of potential but not much kinetic between RWCs 2015 -2019 was that the coaches didnt always know what to make of our guys. Something I have yet to be proven wrong with is the coach or leader in any group who is likely to be really good is one who has worked his way up the system. One who comes from outside and starts high up might have good insight but often not sure how that looks on the ground which is why I think one of our bedt coaches ever is Rassie Erasmus since he has played rugby even to international level, he knows how it looks on the ground and what variables to consider, and also he knows different teams will use different tactics. Thus our best years of rugby and I would go so far as to say that our best RWC of the three we have won was last year. I see how much more the country got behind our team because we had a decent proportion of coloured and black players who are brilliant and who are picked, possibly another reason why we were able to score two tries in the final. There was such unity and coherence in the team. I love our guys. And the coaching staff.
Supporting the Springboks is an emotional rollercoaster like no other, but that World Cup win, like every other win, brings South Africans together like no politician ever could,no matter where in the world we may find ourselves... And that is why my blood is forever green ... I am proudly South African

I feel like having Squidge analysing the opposition team's game plan for your country would be the equivalent of having a cheat code.

Yeah, can we block this video from Warren Gatland
@@zephanish Also includes Eddie Jones as well.
I didn't even know half the things about Rugby that Squidge mentioned, he surely does give great insight.
That's about right, Busani!!
In all honesty the part about Siya Kholisi will always give me goosebumps. Squidge you are the man
One of the greatest comebacks in sporting history. When the Bokke lost to Italy, even South African fans thought SA rugby was dead, there was no way back. 18 months later and we were top of the World. What a story.
And four years later again on TOP OF THE WORLD.
As as South African, I cannot tell you just how much this analysis was about more than just rugby, but what our country and our people stand for.
"... the winger being way out alone, like me on my birthday" hahaha I felt that!!! Love you Squidge thanks for what you do!!!
Every month or so I return to this video. It seriously helps me to relive the 2019 World Cup. Gives me goose bumps to this day!🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
This video just made me so happy!!!! The amount of detail that Squidge puts into these videos is really exceptional. More importantly, this serves as a great learning tool that could be used by all lovers of rugby (schools, clubs, etc.)
Been watching rugby since highschool and it's only when I started following this channel that I finally understood the game.
I couldn't agree more😄👍
I just hope that SuperSport gives Squidge a rugby commentary contract!!!
He watches the game (the plays not the frame per frame and works out where every single player is at all times to track their movements. He then looks for patterns... As well as deviations from those patterns. It makes for great analysis but probably wouldn't be good as a live commentator as some keep suggesting
The most valuable 36 minutes of my year...that Siya Kolisi segment just made the tears flow all over again.
We are an amazing country - had some of the worst division - now some of the most cohesion - love us all!!!
Ahmen brother, he is the real deal!
Supersport (South Africa) ran a "World Cup Final Review" last month. Switched out half an hour into it because scraping my wrists through on the tarmac outside seemed a more exciting prospect. A masterstroke would be bringing Squidge in for some cutting edge analysis on next year's Lions Series and banishing some of those stuffy former players regurgitating cliches with "accuracy"... 😉
Don't forget "work rate", "go-forward", "win the collisions"....
@@Headhunter_212 "gutsy" 🙄

Dude! Stahp! How can every video you make be this awesome! Clever, informed, funny, well- delivered and brilliantly sincere and respectful of all corners of our community. Keep it up man. You are in BEAST mode with these uploads!
Hands down the best rugby analysis channel in the WORLD! Yup, I f***ing said it! You are absolutely brilliant, mate! I love what you do... My appreciation for your work is steady, but slowly getting to levels of the cultish praise and love you have for Alun Wyn Jones. 😂
The Squidge Cult Arise!
"Pure sheer minded BASTARDY!" - I laughed so hard I almost fell off my chair! Enjoyed your Video and analysis. Let's hope our teams meet again in the next RWC Final!
You have created a South African following beast now, be prepared to make more good videos about the Springboks going forward to feed the beast you created.

Spot on bru😂🙌
Totally agree the green flame is a light on this channel 💪
Will run out of content quickly, outside of the RWC the springboks record isnt to flash. 3/24 super rugby, 4/24 tri-nations, 1/8 rugby championships, 2/15 freedom cups
I am Cornish, Sindisile, an ethnic minority of the U.K. The English have all but absorbed my race, as the English have usually tried to do. Many 21st century 'Cornish' people consider themselves English these days. This, for me, is a pity. I am 61 years old, and so am 'old school' Cornish, never English. I was delighted to watch S.A win the 2019 RWC by beating England. Well done South Africa for your massive effort, and ultimate success. Stay safe, Stay in peace.
Loved this! From a big Kiwi fan.
Thanks Squidge, got me crying here in South Africa.
Hard not to be moved by the story, especially Siya's struggles
As a rugby fan from the States who hopes our national team keeps getting better and better as well as our professional clubs I’ve become quite the Boks fan over the last several years. Some of my favorite players like du Tiot and Kolisi are great man. Squidge, great video man. I started watching your channel from the Lions 2017 tour analysis and I’ve been a fan ever since. Keep it up.
This was your best piece yet Squidge. Your passion is contagious. Uniting people the world over for a love of sport is the greatest force known to man, and uniting them for the best sport on earth is not just great but profound. Good on you.
Man this is such a good video. Not only because I'm south african and us winning was the best day of my life but it just made me fall in love with not only the boks but rugby even more. Big props on the video. Maybe a series of you analysing each team in the top 10 or something?
This is an interesting video coming up soon. Squidge is by far the best Rugby Analysis I know. Even as a Springbok fan, it's worth the wait. Squidge will surely dissect this one for us with an interesting insight for sure. I can't wait.

As a South African first I love your videos.I know alot of people around the world dont like our team. They call us boring ect. I hope this wonderful video finally makes everyone understand the real reason for our kicking game. Its not about looking pretty or entertaining, its about winning world cups, Rugby championship and been ranked 1 in the world.
This was worth every minute.... all of it ...even the onions ...😭😭 go Bokke go 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🇿🇦🇿🇦
The onions😂😂😭😭
What a great tribute to the Bokke! The part about Kolisi really gave me goosebumps. Keep up the great research and excellent videos Squidge! Inspirational and intelligent analysis...well done to the Boks again
Thank you for highlighting the beauty and nuance in the bastardry of Springbok rugby. It's too often dismissed as one dimensional and uncreative. Assume this of any project that includes Rassie at your peril :)
That was brilliant. Thank you for making this video. Proud South African here. The stories of struggle towards the end really hit hard after observing the poverty and obstacles that so many people encounter. Big respect.
This is probably the best video I've watched in my life. Like any form of video, it's just too good.
So agree
Still one of my favorite videos on youtube! Every time I watch this I fill up with pride.
Thank you Squidge. That was amazing. How you haven't been scooped up by a network just baffles me.
I have been walking around with a puffed up chest for more than half a year now, but this video just puts that pride in the right place. So proud of our boys.

" How you haven't been scooped up by a network just baffles me. " I am thinking the same thing!!
I'm a massive football fan who just started watching rugby. I'm happy I stumbled across this video because the tactics and commitment you shed a light on were delightful. I understand what you mean about a team united. Up the boks
Dude, this video has it all!! Halfway through I was giggling like crazy and by the end I had tears in my eyes. Your analysis is very insightful, but more importantly, you manage to highlight the passion and emotion involved in this amazing game of ours!!!!
Well done mate, pour yourself a Bells!!!!!!
Glad this was on my recommendations list as I was feeling nostaligic for some rugby.
I never thought you could outdo the "So how did South Africa win the Rugby World Cup final?", but alas here we are.
I can only imagine how much effort went into analysing all these games but it is greatly appreciated. Absolutely amazing stuff.
A bright future in rugby management awaits you should you choose to pursue it. Thanks and keep up the excellent work.
An exceptional analysis of the entire Springbok world cup journey, game plan and human element. Your work is truly on a different level. It is always an absolute pleasure watching your videos Squidge, thank you.

Your analysis of any match is by far the most interesting and definitely the one I attach the most weight to. Rassie should give you a job!

Squidge, you've outdone yourself with this one.. beautiful arc, beautifully written.
What a beautiful game.
As a rugby enthusiast living in South Africa, I can confidently say you hit the nail on the head with this one Robbie! The analysis is perfect as you unpack the awe-inspiring story of the springboks' development during the past decade. This was a pleasure to watch and honestly made my day, content like this makes the uncertainty of our current time all the more manageable thank you so much!
Absolutely brilliant video. Long may you continue with great content.

Been following you since you started, Squidge. Two things: 1: When this lockdown is over, you are invited to a braai at my house in Johannesburg. Everything is on me, including your plane ticket. 2: It is at this braai that we will discuss your future job as analyst for the Springboks. Name your price.
My goodness this video is good, maybe the best you have put together yet, and hopefully inspire and unite people together through this amazing sport.
You always make me a very proud Springbok and Rugby fan - your analysis is spot-on. I think the scariest thing for other teams is, that 2019 was not ZA at their best, it was the groundwork for it. I think the next stage is going to be very interesting.
Very well done video!
lol i remember 2015 Australian fans saying the same thing

Solid video, as always man. I think another good point is that Rassie got a lot of diverse rugby brains like yours in the camp, not just filled it with ex players or coaches rising up the ranks.
PS 34m is wildly impressive
Epic, simply epic. Knowledge, novel insight, entertainment, quality of production, and perhaps most importantly, a profound ability to see things most of us (especially me) failed to see. Thank you for presenting our sport in such an enlightened way. This was magnificent.
Thanks for this awesome video, once again, Squidge. Once again, I hope you'll analyse every RWC final ever.
Youre awesome Squidge, best analysis and insights out there, thanks and respect (from NZ)
This is an absolutely incredible video, you're an amazing analyst and an even better story teller! Thank you
This honestly brought me to tears, especially at the end when you started talking about the captain of the ship, Siya Kolisi. I thought your previous video of "So how did the Springboks beat England", was the best, this was even better. Great piece of work and insight shown.
How many times am I allowed to watch this?
It's been on loop since it premiered for me
Yes is the answer
Good ? ... never get tired of it
I am still watching it... Don't think Covid is going to allow the Lions tour.
Squidge, your hard work (and your brother's?) passion and ability to weave facts and figures into a narrative are ... amazing. If I had an award to give for the best sport analysis - you. Gold.
Master class review !!!! Looking forward to the Japan review as it makes the springbok victory even sweeter
