    Squidge does the best analysis for the viewer of any person in any country. I am South African... Lived in the UK and now Australia. I've seen first hand the "experts" but they don't come close to the in-depth analysis and passion he has for the deciphering of the games 🎉 he is also the most unbiased pundit ....something the Springboks game have struggled with for years when it comes to interpreting our style of play as being heavily criticised instead of appreciated. Thank you ❤

      I absolutely love the South African team, and I’m a die hard Englishman. For me, I’ve said this before, Rassie is one of the greatest Rugby coaches in the world. The sheer desire to win is baked in to the national psyche. I’m not sure if because of the economic and social issues in SA over the last 30 odd years it’s helped to forge a super close and ‘family’ feel within the squad over the years, but it sure looks like it. People have been waffling about DuPont being the goat. I’m sitting there saying, what about the back-to-back winning New Zealand and South African rugby squads. What about all the players within those squads? It makes me chuckle 🤭

      @@jordannangwala4608 it isn't a complete mystery to move country - you need to have skills/knowledge/attributes that are not available in that country (or not available at the level that you have) and match that with a company that requires them... one shortcut is to already be working for a company that is setting itself up in a new country and need someone trusted (attribute) and knowledgeable about the company and its culture to set up the new operation.
      If you are mobile (eg without kids or elderly relatives you have to care for), then you might be much more willing to take a posting like this than other colleagues.
      Best wishes!

    Quick one.
    How much do you think France (taking into account the new attack coach between the World Cup and 6N) were forced into changing their approach to the game because Dupont was no longer available for them? Antoine is ... Antoine. Nobody can argue he isn't one of the greatest players of his generation at the very least, and any coach who doesn't give a player like him the space or the tools to be himself isn't worth his salary.
    Also, when did the so-called "Dupont Law come into effect? Was it pre or post 6N? My memory is a bit fuzzy.

    I get your point about no more than 5 phases. Ireland vs NZ in quarter finals had almost 20 phases in the last minute. However they never looked threatening, also never really crossed the advantage line. I don't believe a correct approach is putting a figure on how many phases, but rather to do something different when normal phase play of passing is not getting over the advantage line or building for an overlap etc.

    I keep hearing about how great this current French side is ("the greatest French side ever" I believe one kf the gentleman said) and it feels a little like being in the Twilight Zone. Were these people not watching in the 90's?
    In 1993, France toured to World Champions Australia and drew a teo match series 1-1. They then travelled to South Africa and New Zealand in 1994 and achived tour victories against both. THAT was a great French side.
    Historically, out of the first SEVEN world cups, France reached the Semi Final stage six times, advancing to the final thrice. Also, up until 2011, France regularly won 5/6 Nations tournaments.
    Now since 2011, France has only won ONE Six Nations. They've not progressed to a semi final even and they literally can't buy a win on tour.
    So how great is a side that hasn't progressed to the seminfinals in ages and have won only ONE Six Nations championship?
    I don't know, you might call me crazy, but there isn't much special about this Les Bleus side at all.

    Squidge is the only non-South African analyst I've seen or heard who understands the Bok game. Everyone else is hung up on the forwards and interprets their tactics as solely dependent on set pieces - i.e. boring - when it's actually incredibly adaptive, dynamic and fascinating. He also looks at defence as much as attack, which most pundits don't do.

  • @davesmith826

    There is technicality in physicality! The South African pack is routinely outweighed by their rivals, including England and Ireland, but they are better than these rivals because of their technical skills. Dan Cole knows this better than anyone 😅

    • @omnihein9322
      @omnihein9322 3 месяца назад +5

      The boks are a lot more lean than most teams at their weight so they're equal or bigger in pure muscle mass.

    • @randomlyfactual1943
      @randomlyfactual1943 3 месяца назад +6

      Oh boy this can get long. So yeah, people like looking at pack weights or prop weights and then believe that a 140kg prop should dominate a 130kg prop; and assessment you correctly stated is not always true.
      So the first thing comes to technique; South African scrummagers have excellent technique, making them so hard to scrum against.
      And something people often forget is that a leaner prop is usually a fitter prop. So what happens to your 145kg tighthead on his sixth scrum? So fitness and technique, there's the first clue.
      The second "problem" facing them is the rest of guys are all huge - RG Snyman weighs as much as a prop does. Duane Vermeulen used to tip the scales at 120kg. PSDT is a beefy 115kg. So those props, they have a lot of energy in the system to work with.
      Then we get to how the props are used. Everybody remembers that incredible Richard Bands try and everybody loves seeing props run the ball. But seldom do you see Bok props do the same. Reason is simple - they want the props to keep their conditioning as long as possible, at least until the Bomb Squad forwards take to the field.
      South Africa plays the forward game better than any other nation, both currently and throughout history and the abive is just three points on how they achieve that.
