I. Can. Not. Believe. JOHN FARNHAM, JIMMY BARNES, DIESEL sang backing vocals on this! I've been listening to this song for about 30 years and never picked it! Holy crap. That's incredible. I can sure as hell hear it now, though!
"Can you background singers keep it down a bit please? Especially you, Snowy" SNOWY IS JOHN FARNHAM. "Hey, hey, back off a bit Curly, this is our song!" CURLY IS JIMMY BARNES. 😱
When u actually hear the electric guitar in the first few seconds, U can tell undoubtedly that is Diesel but actually listening to it back in the day unless U knew then not many hadda clue it was him. Also now knowing Farnsey & Barnesy are background singers, especially towards the end & classic Barnesy screams is so obvs but we back then were more concentrating on the words to the song to learn it & not worry who was background singers & who was playing the instruments. Just like with the majority of our Aussie artists in our music scene, especially back then, they all worked together no matter what to help each other become successful. This also shows how our biggest musicians had the typical larrakin sense of humour, that we do know they have, but even more so to jump up & help Billy with this song & were happy to not even be known they were on the track. That's true Aussie Mateship as well as their typical laid back Aussie style we are known for 🇦🇺
I think it taught every Aussie kid how to spell marvellous! I remember as a kid either this version or the other version was #1 on Aussie top 40 charts for weeks & weeks but coz of the language in the song it couldn't be played on Rage on Saturday morning on the ABC or the Top 40 countdown on channel 10 on the Sunday morning
in 1991 I was 13 years old! gee geez I remember this song! I used to love it! still sounds amazing although Im a Pakistan India and West Indies cricket fan! I don't like the Australian cricket team but this song it is so bloody good!

Only Adelaide and Darwin are among the state or territory capitals that get a mention. That's a quiz show question just waiting to happen. And 1984 mentions less than 10 cities, name them, and just ask me the capital of Tegucigalpa. And what's the population of China? And name them.
It's such a shame that in this day and age that the likes of the Twelfth Man couldn't put out his comedy genius coz of the woke world we live in & people getting so arsehurt over everything. I do only believe it would be a very small minority in Straya that would find it racist & offensive & the majority of us still have that laid back, she'll be right Aussie attitude & sense of humour where we can take the piss outta ourselves & laugh at ourselves & being offended just isn't in our DNA. I know times change, the world's gone backwards & with political correctness that comedy is a dying art. I hope as Aussie's we don't change too much & keep our weird, bogan sense of humour that the rest of the world don't understand.

What a brilliant song and what are brilliant piece of Australian history.
