I could sit and watch those actors all day long...
Actor?
TCC!
Its you! :0 HI FROM ME! :D !!!!!!
Tolarian Community College Professor have you graded my mid term on the price difference between standard and modern formats?
I found this comment from the past. How many Tolarian Scholars do I win?
Projared: “I took 2 decks and played against myself”
Me: *looks at my yu-gi-oh cards*
“I’m not the only one..”
*tearfully hugging my Pokemon tcg decks*
Grim's Retro Life Style Oh god, I’m just as bad, I play chess against myself. The trick is to play your best no matter which side you are currently playing, as you win either way.
Just Another RUclips Channel
that’s exactly how I played yugioh! *hugs*
We are not alone!
It makes me happy to see that I wasn't alone. I also did the same thing with Yu-Gi-Oh cards
"But now I got a big ol' buff turtle" Best line ever.
Only reason I'm watching this video again just to hear that line.
xDDd lmao
Years old comment to reply to... but in a small group I sometimes drafted with we always hate drafted the hexproof tortoise in Dominaria because one guy always played U/W control and would take those and Arcane Flight. So many big ol' buff flying hexproof turtles.
What sells it is the portrait of said tortoise because it looked so damn happy!
ProJared got me into both Magic and DND, two of my now favorite passtimes.
"Untapped potential"
I see what you did there, sir.
Ha! That's verily funny
Well, it is an "Instant hit," Friendly.
There's simply no opportunity to counter such brilliant wit, Tim.
What is this joke is it SORCERY?!
I Think we'll have to discard the prospect of help, we're too far gone.
I want "That new card smell." cologne.
me too... me too.
+Ech0 i would be in your pants within seconds
well.... that escalated quickly...
I got a deck of cards and smelled them (first booster pack) and it smelled like taco bell
wow tacobout weird bu dum chi
imagine if someone remade this with all the new cards and graphics. it would be amazing
droping 300 life would be a peace of piss now XD
Except for the story, I think Magic: The Gathering Online worked well for it's day... Is that still around? I think so?
It is.
Wait, really? I mean, considering the fact that the final boss will have the best cards of THIS age of MTG, it should at least be pretty hard
Ventus will That deck was also somewhat unfocused. It was the 300 life that was really the problem.
I guess you can say this game... Reignited his spark.
Heh...

***** I'd estimate in the thousands, mostly from modern-legal sets though since im an EDH player I have plenty of older cards too
***** I've only been playing since October myself.
I don't get it 'cause i don't play magic, but i bet it's a good joke/pun
I'm glad there are others who understand the joys of 'new cards smell'!
Oh yes, I love "new cards smell"!
Not to be confused with 'new books smell', which is also awesome.
i open a case for most sets my room smells like new card smell for a few days its glorious
If you like "new cards smell", you really should try "old asbestos smell"! It's just as good, I swear.
im not alone :D
When I was into yu-gi-oh I dueled myself sooo much . I was a lonely kid . :-;
+Dante Dean You're not alone. My brother was the one who got me into it, then he got bored of it and I wound up dueling my teddy bears...Oddly enough, I think I lost most of the time. >,>
+LooniLuci Teddy bears are beast at TCG though, I'll always remember the Six Samurai Deck that my tiger plush used to wield.
Fucking cheap bastard.
Black INK.I.M
It makes you wonder where all these stuffed animal learned to play, or if their just born/made/stitched(?) with that information. Either way it feels like the keep cheating.
+LooniLuci they believed in the heart of the cards, and it lead them to victory.

Makes sense, still seems unfair that they some how believed harder than I did when they never even liked the game to begin with

BoardJared! No wait..
Jared on tabletop
And in September 2021, he reviews a Sim City card game
This video is what got me into Magic. And now I own 1000 cards and I don't know where I got them.
happens to every single one of us...
Don't worry, Jared. The only thing that changes if you actually reduce the final boss' health entirely to 0 is just a bigger number of years he stays banished for in the ending screen.
Slightly disappointing, I know.
MotorRoach Also, considering that official MtG is played with 20 life by default, Jared taking out 88 life from the best cards in the game while he started at 27 is pretty fucking amazing.
1:48 Fuck off cat, it's MtG time
I’ve been waiting for the day I can happily watch projared knowing he is innocent...
Have you seen his recent video, I think he's innocent
Yes that’s why I made this comment
@@brambai7498 that means you assumed he was guilty though
I didn’t make memes or insult him though.but yes, unfortunately I fell into that group
I feel the same, I wasn't sure how to feel or if he was guilty or not. I just felt upset by the whole situation. I'm glad he posted that video.
1:10 I get it Jared... Wanna hear another? Wood elemental! HAHAHAHAHA!
I get both :)
The vonsscout show : Reviews and analysis I have a card that gives creatures banding
i can make obscure jokes too

The vonsscout show : Reviews and analysis wanna hear another joke? Plainswalkers!!! *H A H*
I'm glad I'm not the only one that loves the smell of freshly-opened cards! I wasn't sure if that was a thing or not.
I though I was insane back then
Oh that to me was the best part of getting new cards
It even transfers to different games. Almost any collectible game has that new smell, it's addicting.
+KurosuKura I think that's called an inhalant...
(joking, of course)
+KurosuKura I feel like that on purpouse to get you to by them!
From a fellow magic the gathering player let me be the first to say NEEEERRRRRDD!!!
But seriously I relate to a lot of the stuff you said
Stfu you card sniffer jk
+Jack Duripper Is that the TFS nerd? :-P
+hotdoh it originated from The Simpson's.
I'm a nerd, too.
I love magic too! Just went to a Friday night magic.
I did manage to kill the final boss...I used a poison deck. :D
I hope you recorded footage!
Kenny DeLore It was YEARS ago. Could easily be over 15 years ago by now.
Bedford Crenshaw Oh xD I didn't knew infect was a thing in 1997. I just managed to do a proper infect deck in the updated version
Kenny DeLore Well, it wasn't an "infect" deck...it was just a poison deck. Also, in the early 2000s someone took a R/G poison deck I designed and won a PTQ in St. Louis with it allegedly..
Nice. I wish i were into MtG back then.
With the new Version of Shandalar you have quite the amount of poison/infect cards. The one i'm really missing is the Sliver who gives all slivers poison. :D
That tutorial video is now my favourite anime.

I used to play tabletop games against myself all the time. It's actually kind of oddly satisfying. Since it's basically a two-player game in which both players think the same and know the same strategies, you can't really plan ahead. So every move has to be made up on the spot, developing improvisational strategy skills.
...Unless you're cheap and set up one side for failure.
I wouldn't do that... but... i would avoid delivering the killing blow so the match would last longer...XD
Parnifia the Bastard
The trick is to forget everything in your opponent's hand when you switch sides.
I do the same.. I played some card games that no one plays anymore including dbz (which is actually back now but not as good as it used to be)..
@@DemonChildCC Did you know I actually have a few Star Trek cards and X men Cards from a long time ago? I never even watched an episode of Star trek until a few years ago. I have a card of Psylocke and a card of Wolverine's "Fastball Special."

I like how newer card games have all of these flashy graphics and effects for no real reason, this game actually seems interesting to a person who's never even played this game!
Col. Gob Knobbler Was that supposed to be "attacking" hearthstone?
Robert Pysh Not at all, I was simply saying that newer digital card games like to "spice" up gameplay by adding particles and useless stuff like that when a game like this one doesn't have any of that and manages to keep my attention, it's pretty cool!
Col. Gob Knobbler i'm sry but why the hell do you have burgie as ur pic
Rico O' Rourke Didn't realise you asked me this, I had no other real options for profile pictures, plus I like Burgie.
Col. Gob Knobbler GET OUTTA HERE, BURGIE, YOU DON'T BELONG HERE.
I got the banding joke. I must say, that joke is as old as the mechanic itself.
+Groot When did yo learn to talk!? Oh, wait, your writing must not be as impaired as your speech.
+Potter TheAvenger k
Wat does it mean?
+Asriel Dreemurr From the MTG wiki:
"Banding is a keyword ability with different effects depending on whether the banding creature is attacking or blocking. It was introduced in Alpha [1], and no longer used in newer cards."
don't get it
I´d love to see Jared do a let´s play of this. Sure i don´t know jackshit about magic, but i´d be interesting. It´s like seeing him play Daggerfall (please finish it).
I don't know the first thing about magic and I'd die to watch him do a play-through of this too, it seems super interesting.

We NEED an Hd remake of this.
That RPG looks AMAZING! I'll definitely check it out.
"BAGOOM!! You're dead!"
I am SO gonna say that, sometimes, when I swing for lethal. xD
That Shandalar game was so good! I remember playing a mostly black deck with Library of Leng and Ivory tower for some high-end health gain.
It sounds like we played around the same period-I started with Unlimited and Antiquities, and I played until around Weatherlight, right before they introduced story blocks. Lots of good times.
1:58
Dude, you think that's pathetic and sad? I was a huge fan of the Pokemon TCG, except I had no one to play with.
So not content to simply play against myself I made a "one player adventure game" where in a deck could do a sought of endurance run against "stages" based of locations from the show and games like Viridian Forest with randomly drawn "wild Pokemon" based on what you would might find in those areas. And ended in cities with a boss based one of the Gym Leaders and occasionally Team Rocket. Between Stages, when you got to a city, you could choose whether or not to go to a "Pokemon Center" which would reshuffle your deck, to get back trainer cards and KO'd Pokemon along with lost energy. The down side being your in play area was also reset so you lost all of your developed and powered up Pokemon. Which was a huge disadvantage for the upcoming Boss fight, because all of their Pokemon were fully evolved and full powered, with a preset arsenal of Trainer cards.
I even went to so far as to make it feel less like I was fighting myself by actually coming up with how each opponent would behave under what circumstance, actually it was a lot like the Gambits from Final Fantasy XII looking back. That way I wasn't making any of my opponents decisions while doing battle against them.
So yeah... compared to me, you're behavior was down right well adjusted and admirable. XD
Wow, I actually wish I could download that game right now and play it! Too bad it's probably in your head or written on a piece of paper.
That sounds quite amazing btw
***** I just have this idea to turn the magic card game into a table top RPG, and you gain experience through card battles but are restricted to use the weakest cards starting out and you start with one color, basically like this RPG styled magic game
Wait, im NOT the only person who plays against themselves
I do too :^(

I'm glad that I'm able to see projared in a better light now that he's explained the whole situation. Always loved his content. Rewatching a lot of his vids now and trying to spread the word that he isn't as bad as we all thought he was.
Edit: damn it if you want to play magic the gathering without having friends then play using cockatrice, you have the access to the entire library of magic cards with multiple online rooms to play against other players.
Never heard of it, and I have the 4th edition version of the card the app is based on
"multiple online rooms to play against other players."
As long as you're fine with "no Flying/no Blue/no Counterspells/no Artifacts/no Direct Damage" rulesets enforced by both Scrubs and Stop-Having-Fun-Guys in equal measure.
I used to play the Star Wars TCG against myself. Dark times.
was it good?
herrabanani I don't think I played it right because the rulebook was really tiny and long. I just liked collecting the cards and making decks based on factions.
***** do you now play mlp tcg?
still against yourself?
kingarthur0407 Nope. I don't buy many MLP products.
I suppose you could say you were /playing with yourself/
*canned laughter as the credits roll*
We need a modern version of this game. NOW
Michael Tsagaris YES! I've tried everything I know to get this up and running on an emulator. No luck, though.
Nathan Hall are you sure? I remember I got it running on an old laptop with windows XP with the help of DosBox, though I don't remember exactly how. I think I check later how I managed that :)
I'm trying on Windows 8. Apparently, it's much tougher, the later your OS is.
Michael Tsagaris Lackey CCG is an online way to play many card games. Its what I play with. Though there's a new one coming out soon that hopefully will be just like the old game. Its gonna be F2P and you can buy card packs on it but you can also earn them. So cross your fingers that it'll be awesome.
Michael Tsagaris its called hearthstone
You know, something I really love is the idea of a nigh-unkillable final boss (or boss in general) who, the more damage you deal to him, will stay sealed away for a longer period of team. Great concept for a whole seperate game.

On that Microprose Magic game, if you set it to pause on your upkeep phase, you can tap the enemies lands during that time and force them to take mana burn damage.
Uh, not that I did that, I mean.

+John Tiseo Oh my god. Your profile pic makes that comment so much funnier!
it's time to d-d-d-d-d-duel!
You played three monster cards in one turn!... Thats against the rules!...
This card game looks very interesting.
But the whole "having to draw a specific mana card to even play any cards at all" thing kinda turns me off.
I'll stick with Yu-Gi-Oh!.
EDIT: Fuck YGO. MTG FTW. So glad I eventually switched.
Or.... I could just go to my local card shop. It's even in walking distance.
But to have it delivered from where you live to me would take a while.
Also, I'm pretty sure you're trying to scam me right now.
It's not hard to draw mana. If you're not drawing enough mana per game, you didn't put enough in. If you have more than one color, there's multiple (and dirt cheap) ways of getting around that anyways. Besides, I like that way over summoning the most powerful card you can imagine turn one as you can in Yu-Gi-Oh!, which is quite easy to do.
Brandon Lyman 1. No matter what, no matter how balanced your deck is, even with mulligans, there will come many times when you get a shit hand and will be unable to use any mana.
2. If you're summoning all of your powerful monsters as fast as you can, you're not playing Yu-Gi-Oh! right.
watching old projared videos like this always invoke this weird quasi nostalgia in me. they make me wanna invite friends over for a potluck and play the 5e starter set, i really cant describe it in any other way. its the best
Lunar Dogs how about now? Still get the same feeling?

@@jacobc8036 HAHA FUCK NO I JUST SAW YOUR COMMENT BUT THIS DUDE FUCKING SUCKS MAN
Here's some more Magic jokes: Player priority. Counterspell. Leovold, Emissary of Trest. Cheap Standard deck. Sol Ring.
I have also never played a Magic game. I need a job...
Man, I remember playing some MTG back in high school.
It was awesome. Except when you draw nine fucking mana in a row...
Or if you get no mana for nine card draws in a row.
I usually either get every single mana for the entire game, or get 3 10/10s, 1 8/8, and 525425245245 5/5s, and never get mana.
There is no worse feeling than having seven mana in your starting hand.
Thatguy4077 Or no mana in your hand, and a 10/10 in your hand. That means you have to shuffle your hand into your deck. It really sucks. :C
I know right? I just use a lot of cards which let you shuffle your deck
In the comments:
"My **** deck is the best no one can beat it"
"I never got into Magic, it was too hard/boring/frustrating"
"Heartstone/YGO/etc. is better!!1!!1!one"
"Card games are for immature manchildren neckbeards with no girlfriends in their mother's basement"
And yet not a single comment from someone who actually regularly plays FNMs, plays competitive constructed on Magic Online, or has been to a Grand Prix.
I like playing mtg. I have a crappy deck
I regularly play Commander and have a $500+ deck. I've been playing the format since a couple years before the pre-cons were announced. Does that count?
I regularly play mtg. I also have a bad deck but ive managed to pull off numerous wins with it for months at fnm. I call it healing zombies destruction because i create a horde of zombies then attack and i spam heal so ill never die. Yeah it barely works but its custom and fun! Plus i love the combinations with it. I doubt ill ever create a new playstyle or deck, i might just update it every time a new set is released but then again i dunno
MrkingRando I call my MTG deck, I LOST...
used to go to friday night magic every week but then i lost interest it been almost a year at this point
I love the opening of the Solstice theme song in the background!
Okay, I have rewatched this video multiple times over the years. How is today the first time I noticed that ProJared had a cat appear in the corner of the video when he was showing off his cards?
I could never get into Magic: The Gathering for the simple fact that I could never make or play a deck that could win, nor could I get anyone to help me enough to help me make or play a deck competently.
***** Then everyone that I have ever played has been a dick, because I have never won a game of Magic. And I've tried several times over the years. I've tried to get back into it about 3 or 4 times since elementary school, which was about 8-9 years ago, but I could never actually win against anyone.
***** But that's the thing, as it often is with this sort of thing and me: I never know what I am doing wrong, as I have no context. As far as I can tell, they just keep pulling lucky cards and beating me. That's obviously not the case, but unfortunately, that's how it seems.
The only winning move in MTG is not to play.
I specialized in not winning. Instead I'd make the game hilarious. One of my decks made everyone else draw about 15 cards then get everything they drew for free. I called it "And watch the fireworks." Best played in 3-6 person games.
magicbaron333...

Richard Garfields new card game KeyForge is amazing for people who like the idea of TCGs but not the deck construction and card chasing aspects those games have, by the way. So, did anyone else feel lost while watching this video?
I only play Yu-Gi-Oh so none of this made sense to me, Blue Eyes White Dragon for life!
I did play a little bit of Magic, so I wasn't completely confused, but all the Magic jokes were lost for me (Except maybe the Leviathan, because, if I remember correctly, I think his ablility was that he couldn't do anything without discarding two mana, wich I remember being super inconvenient)
But I agree with the fact that Yu-gi-oh master race! I mean come on! We have the Chouxvalier!

You know, this video actually got me into playing Magic: the Gathering and now, every single time I watch this video, it makes me just want to run to a store, buy a load of Magic: the Gathering booster packs, and see the “lucky random cards” I got. How strange to think I used to hate Magic: the Gathering when I was younger, and now I’m hooked on it!
Thanks, Jared!
Games like Hearthstone and Deck Heroes need to sell packs of physical cards. Each card could have a special code you could type in to get the card in-game.
Opening virtual packs just isn't the same. Swiping through a list isn't as satisfying as sorting through a pile. AND THE SMELL.
Have you ever heard of the game Chaotic? It was just like that, had a tv show and everything, I used to love buying the cards since they all had codes to play online xD
Since posting this comment, I found out that the Pokemon TCG does exactly this with its packs/decks.

I got into the game a few years back at a summer class. Played it a good bit there. When I got back I had nobody to play it with so I mostly forgot how to play. Now I find that one of my friend is a huge fan of it so... Time to relearn by watching ProJared.
"There is so much untapped potential here."
Heh, I see what you did there!
all this FFXI music!
Oh. I already commented about that.

Ooooh...
***** and the terranigma trilgoy soul blazer illusion of time and stuff
I can't believe this video is 3 years old! I can't believe I've been subscribed for that long!
Ah my friends and I always play this at anytime we can at school. It's kind of like a symbol of skill and honor when you build the greatest deck in the school.
Magic's super fun to play against yourself, but you quickly learn that you're the most predictable opponent you could possibly fight.
So I often pretended to be totally different people with totally independent playstyles.
I have too much time.
ProJared gives this game a Tim outta Ten.
This is one of my all-time favorites of yours
Loved the Act Raiser score in this!
HOLY CRAP THIS GAME GOT EXPANSIONS!? I need to find this online or something. I spent so many hours on this game that it consumed entire months of free time at a time. Also, Jared, you should do a video on the Yu-Gi-Oh card game. Yeah it's based on an anime that is kinda ridiculous, but the game itself is a lot of fun and extremely theme/synergy heavy.
Plus, Simon Belmont is in it img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140907210943/yugioh/images/2/25/VampireHunter-MP14-EN-SR-1E.png
Not really surprising, really, as Konami holds the rights to the YGO video games.
I agree the anime was ridiculous but the books are so much more awesome, not cheesy at all, darker and more mature, the anime makes me wanna puke each time :S
I do have a soft spot for the anime, even for as goofy and cheesy as it was, it seemed to revel in that. But yeah, I loved the manga too.
What's wrong about the anime??? And about what should be based???
Part of the 5% that know about banding! :D
I laughed my ass off.
Please can you explain it to me? I don't do card games
iamanish mtg.wikia.com/wiki/Banding
iamanish In theory, Banding is a mechanic in the game that lets you make many creatures attack as one.
In practice, it's a massive pile of overcomplicated rules, unintuitive gameplay and crazy loopholes that would make any lawyer blush. And the whole thing wasn't even fun to play with at the end. Most players never understood what the hell it did, so Wizards decided to make the only obvious thing... an *even crazier* version of it called Bands with Others, of course.
Then they finally realized how bad the whole thing was, threw the whole thing away and swore never to speak of it again. And absolutely no one complained.
I love the final fantasyXI music during this video. Two of my favorites.
I forgot how funny Jared was wow.
