  • In the last round of the World Blitz 2019 (Round 12) day one Magnus Carlsen had the white pieces against one of the biggest talents of Russian chess Vladislav Artemiev. Artemiev, just 21 years old, already has an Elo of 2810! He is dubbed as the next World Championship candidate from Russia.

      It was the other player that did such a forceful handshake. He might have been apprehencive and honored to be up against Magnus.

    I think vladislav artemiev has a very bright future ahead of him he has a good attitude towards playing chess and also has a very good etiquette when playing against anyone also he is relaxed kinna guy....

      Anyone got ideas how to improve? I play, i see tutorials for strategies and gambits but i forget them, one main thing is that I play online chess, not irl cuz i have limited PPL, that's in school, once a week, not more than that

    That h5 was awesome. If black takes, Nf4 makes h5 a nearly unprotectable target with both the knight and the queen attacking it, and suddenly the kingside is way sharper.

    08:29 next move by Carlsen was to check mate at Qf7 or Re8+ to capture rook was unhindered so Artemiev resigned. Am I correct? Imho.

    Magnus is soo lucky. Many chess expert said that artemiev is the next garry kaspRov, the best of all, hardest player to beat.

    Can someone explain how and why the time sometimes goes up? I don’t know how to say it, but sometimes it went from 8 sec to 10, then went down and went up again...

      Hi some blitz tournaments are played with 5 minutes per player plus an increment of an extra couple of seconds added to a player's clock each time they make a move. That is what's happening here. Other blitz tournaments do not have seconds added to the clock. It's also possible to play two or three minute games with increments added on too.

      So that if your pawn promotes you can promote your pawn to a queen even though you already have a queen on the board.You can have two queens on the board so that you can easily checkmate the King but be careful of stalemate if only the King alone left on the board.Be careful of promoting your pawn.Think first before you promote your pawn because it can leads to stalemate if only the King is alone is left on the board.

    I've been waiting for so long to see how you all make magical moves with "MARSHALL" & "CARDINAL"
    [ MARSHALL = ROOK + KNIGHT
    CARDINAL = BISHOP + KNIGHT ]

      Isn't Rb1 followed by cxd4 cxd4 Qa5+ main line?, I think Magnus deviated with h4 and Artimiev didn't want to walk into a prepared World Champ. Can't say I blame him

      Actually, magnus's opponent resigned, one player can never on its own say that he has win until his opponent has resigned, or mated or lost due to time.
