I love chess. I don't know very much about it - I do know how to play it - and I find this hard to follow. But see this patter - "Kasparov had the same position in the 80s against the chess player Simon Webb" - that just blows my mind. Remembering one game from 30 years ago? FFS. But it's magic, I love it!

Obviously Kasparov played very well, but Fabi played very poorly for that level.
First, he never should have played 8.e3 to play 10.d4 ceding space. He was just worse after 10.d4 e4, and his pieces could not easily get back to the kingside with the Pe4 jammed down his throat. By then, 10.d3 was required, just being a little cramped. The more normal 8.Nc3 with the plan Ne1-c2-e3 and then one of the knights goes to d5 was much better. For better, or worse, regarding the d3 square, he needed to play 13.dc and trade the queens and rooks down the d-file. Of course, later he needed to play h3 so on h4 by black, he could keep the kingside closed. Lastly, the whole Ba3 was WAY too slow. 16.Rfd1?? allowed the Bf5 to join the attack with tempo. It was totally over from there.
Fabi has improved his rapid an blitz dramatically since then, but his judgment and intuition in that game was horrendous.

In the 90's I had bought the most expensive electronic chess game named Kasparov. With a plate to protect and close the game. And under, a little compartiment to put the 32 pieces inside, which was a little hard put them all inside I remember. But it was really the biggest and the most beautiful electronic game.
Someone stole it from me and I never found it again.

He took the usa champ! That's pretty good. And at blitz! Being a former state champ & conference champ...we got 1 minute between moves. So odds are that if he can win at blitz now....that he is better now in many ways. I have picked it up after 25 years and it's tough. I am winning 90% of matches but losing constantly on timeouts. Winning by 3 to even 9 points and then losing on time. Last night, up 7 & losing on time. So kasparov is doing something amazing adapting to new rules and styles.
