It was a tricky question; How would Swedish duo Vintersorg continue after 2014`s intruiging Naturbål? Shunning repitition, vocalist and mastermind Andreas „Vintersorg“ Hedlund did the unthinkable and composed a sequel to his groundbreaking 1998 album with Till Fjälls del II! This means no scientific lyrical concept, no progressive trickery, but a heartfelt return to snowcapped mountains, pure nature-inspired mysticism, Nordic folklore and black metal with a captivating epic streak. Vintersorg share a vision of equally harsh and melodic soundscapes that melt the raging extremes of the late 90s with the focus of 2016. To the mountains…
I remember when I heard 'Till Fjälls' album for the first time, 20 years ago, and this sound just same but more evolution. Amazing return!
Oh my, this is phenomenal. Absolutely amazing! I haven't been a fan for long (probably since the previous album) but after I listened to Vintersorg's discography recently, I think this band is just getting better and better. The melodies they come up with nowadays are just plain amazing. Can't wait to put my hands on the promo on Monday (or Friday)!

Might be my favorite Vintersorg album ever.
I haven't listened to anything but this album for the last month. It's magnificent!
My day was horrible so far, then I stumbled upon this beauty. And when I thought "fuck that was awesome" I realised only half the song was done

I find it hard to translate Vintersorg's music from Swedish, their choice of words are so sharp and specific, I feel like the meaning gets diluted in translation.
I agree. Translating Vintersorg isn't easy. If anything since so many words have a distinctly old feeling to them perhaps the best thing to do would be to translate the lyrics into old english, though that's not something I'm very good at.
Why try to figure them out if you can look them up?! :D

@@karlstjerna187 It's worth start learning Swedish for Vintersorg honestly (I did!), the lyrics are that good. Still, there are some elaborate words you cannot find in any dictionary.

I love all Vintersorg albums (the same goes for Borknagar with Vintersorg and Otyg), but newest Vintersorg released under Napalm Records sure sounds more insincere - just a regular metal lacking these crispy mid-frequencies - it's a manner to flatten the whole so it could sound like "high quality" music, where "high quality" goes for digitally manipulated chart without any hums that ends up as tiring flat quasi music. No idea if it had been done under influence of Napal Reocords or it's just an impact of the newest trends in music realization, but where is this true, enigmatic Vintersorg that amazed with it's non-conventional melodies that sucked your soul into wandering among northern realities of unknown... It's only my opinion... I'm with all of you, absolute hearing friends :/

OK so I'm a huge Vintersorg fan and Hedniskhjartad EP and Till Fjalls are forever in my heart as my two favourite records of all time.
But the fact he didn't keep his very deep,Viking sounding baritone vocals on TIll Fjalls del II pissed me off alot. I feel likes he's cheated us , YET AGAIN. "no more progressive trickery" apparently. Well, his lighter , higher pitched vocals are heavily reminiscent of his miserable descent into prog.
If he's kept the old vocals , and the simple, heartfelt melodies that capture the soul of the North, like before on the aforementioned two records, THEN this would be Till Fjalls Del II, And it'd be given an 11 our of 10 by me.
For me this is just about a 7. I'm disappointed. The song structures are more complex , there's more emphasis on harsh black metal, none of that epic, ancient old sounding pagan beauty and pure art like before.
Why did you do this us, Mr V. ? This isn't till fjalls 2. It's just another new Vintersorg record... Don't get hopes up then smash them into splinters for those who adore your art...
both songs released this far are bland and uninspired.. not even remotely close to the majestic soaring vocal melodies of till fjals or odemarkens son. those were hymns. these are just musings. it just goes to prove that it wasn't a burning desire to go progressive but a total lack of inspiration that produced most of vintersorgs discography. i understand napalm records trying to milk it with the association but how can andreas hedlund think this is worthy to slap "till fjals" on? perhaps he misunderstands what made his first two albums so memorable. this is at best naturbal del II. i sincerely hope i am proven wrong when the whole album is released. otherwise i am going to start being really grateful otyg didn't get back together in 2013
