You're right about one thing. There are many decent knives out there for more or less reasonable prices. There are also a lot of knives out there that are little to no better and are staggeringly overpriced for what they are.
Juniper is classed as a soft wood. This is based on the method of reproduction rather than anything else. Yellow Popular is a Hard wood even though it isn't very hard.
@@michaelwaldeck7081 yea, i don't remember them offering the light my fire in carbon steel, that would have been better. The one i have is stainless steel like this. Its a good knife, i keep it in my truck bag.

Seems like a copy of the Mora 'light my fire' knife but about 1/2 the price.
Better steel but that would depend on the heat treat.
