Building this kit right now in 2024. Love your commentary, Excellent work! You’ve won a new subscriber forsure! Cannot wait to weather mine, gonna be a Kentucky Coal Hauler.
I have just started on this kit and must say that you are spot-on with this review. It's a very nice kit and I plan on building SEVERAL of them! I'm building the first one as a milk tanker, using part of the IMC/Lindberg tanker trailer kit. Thanks for posting!
Great review as usual, I was glad to see this kit reissued. This one is on my list to build, I plan to do the "Rubber Duck" from the movie "Convoy". I found the duck hood ornament in 1/25 scale a couple years ago. Keep up the great work Chris.
I found ejector pin excess plastic inside the 'C' channel of the frame rails. Knife I got has 4 extra different type of blades, an extra ordinary blade, angled, a scraper edge wide flat blade, a half moon style round edge blade, and a scraper style offset angled blade. The wide scraper blade is too wide to fit between the rails to scrape off the excess if scraping front to back, but I used the angled edge scraper style blade and held cutting edge flat, scraping top to bottom, like sanding the excess down. It removes the excess plastic, might take more time than sanding or using much smaller edge scraper blades, but it works to make the excess remove so the cross members can connect correctly.
Well I didn't think I wanted a semi kit but I was wrong. You sold me on it. I will pick it up when I see it. It does look like a fun kit. Great job as usual. Thanks for sharing...
recently purchased this kit. its on my pile and is my next build. looking forward to putting it together. i put down many thousands of miles in one of these when i was an OTR driver.
Great Review brother i just bought this kit after seeing your review i liked it gonna build it for the Cancer Awareness group build coming up in Oct keep up the awesome work
Appears to be a super nice mack. I did build the "Convoy" movie truck version of this one when I was 12 yrs old and won a model car show at key bee toys in Bismarck ND. The old amt trucks were awesome. Front tires are poseable.
Thanks for the review. I was hoping you would build it. Would love to see your build. Guess it would take to long. I know you like to pump them out quickly. I built a few of them years ago. It took me over a week to do each. Thanks again.
Thanks man, at the time this video was made I was only doing unboxings, now I do full builds so when this is issued again I'll do it. facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
Honestly, I dont understand how you get thumbs down votes; trolls/haters, I guess, lol. First off, I am not a "truck guy," BMW is more my speed, but this kit looks like fun to put together. As an US Navy contractor, we would occasionally need to deliver equipment to ships up and down Eastern Seaboard (Philly to Key West) and had an International 4300 with a DT466, dual 55 gallon tanks, and a 16 foot box and lift gate. Truck was fun to drive. I think i would want to find one of those and build it up, even if i had to customize the box. Your channel inspires me! Great review! Sorry about the weather...good model building days ;-)
Thanks Stuart. We know how those folks are. Jealousy or internal anger usually. Either way they don't matter, they'll be unhappy regardless of what we do so we just keep on keepin on and ignore the haters.
I just recieved my kit by Fed-Ex this morning and am finally just starting the engine tonight. I have been looking for a Mack of this era for a while now to convert/kitbash it into a detailed FDNY Rescue 1 (early 1970s cab & body) and this is about the only one I could find. Wish it was bigger. If you know of a bigger model, let me know.
I'm trying to get one of these, a lot of memories hauling gravel in one of these trucks with my Dad, plan to paint it up the same as the company at the time as a commemorative piece.
Now that Round 2 owns AMT, MPC, Ertl molds they could release a version of this Mack with the Rubber Duck grill guard duck hood emblem and sleeper for a half decent version of the Rubber Duck from the movie Convoy. Even though in the movie the Mack was a RS 700 L it would be better then when Ertl put out the Rubber Duck on their DM 600 chassis.
I remember building the "Rubber Duck" kit back in late 70s, after seeing Convoy at the drive in. Didn't realise it wasn't the same truck DM 600 until the movie came to television!😀
AMT Round 2 really needs to pony up with the decal sets. The reworked outside decals are great but gauge decals are what are desperately needed on these kits. The gauges are too ill defined to pick out with paint and decals just look plain better. Great release though.
Confused about the rear wheel assembly parts! My kit has the spoked set of wheels but also has a set of non spoked wheels! Don't know what they are for! Would appreciate any information on this subject! Thank you sir! Happy building!
Just a little tip. Mack's came with a silver and a gold bulldog hood ornament. The one's with the gold bulldog usually were the Maxidynes. The gold bulldog meant every part on that truck was Mack
@@hpiguy no problem. I 've been watching a lot of your videos lately and I see how much you pay attention to detail and I just thought you'd appreciate that little tidbit
I have this truck but I had decided to modify it into a flatbed I definitely loved the quality of the moldings were well done and you could make some choices with it such as the decals or the fuel tank you wanted I had chose to use the square tanks amt definitely did a good job with the design to that kit Edit: I had forgot that I had decided to switch the mustang to a small hot rod dragster the same size scale 125 with the same color of paint I thought it would had went together better the truck took 4 months to build I had actually had the intention to make the truck on the box but then with a month of sitting with the parts loose I decided to change it to a flatbed I definitely enjoy the final product
Yeah!, I'll take two. Thank you! I'm glad AMT didn't over do the chrome, like the MPC DM600. Of course they include those awsome red and amber light sprues. Great review!
Thanks for spending some of your day with us at the Workshop and leaving a nice comment! If you haven't already, come join the fun on Facebook at hpiguys Workshop
I've always wanted a Rubber Duck Mack and a Smokey and The Bandit Kenworth in the display case. Could this or the DM600 kit be used as the basis for Rubber Duck's truck?
I've got over 50 yrs of building. I've been working on this kit for a few weeks. The engine builds up nice. The amount of flash on smaller parts is amt's old normal. Some of the smaller parts are unusable. The installed engine will keep the hood from fitting. The instructions are poorly done in places. This kit will requires a lot of work, far beyond something a beginner can do. My copy certainly not a clean kit. I've reboxed it for now, trying to decide if I want to continue fighting it. I guess It's just a so so repop.
I am having trouble myself, have. Not done a build in over 20 years. Now doing this with my son & thinking, how can I show him how to do a good job if I fighting with it also. Yes, neat looking. Thinking about parting it & made up my own, much as I don’t like that. Thank you for posting!
I am building this kit along side of AMT`s Autocar Dump Truck. Comparing both kit for quality and fit, The Autocar is a much better fitting kit and a lot less flash on the parts. The Mack has an abundance of flash, poor fit on almost every part not to mention the number of sink marks on a number of the parts. adding to a lot of work to build a half decent kit. Definitely not for the beginner.
All the old AMT big rig kits are for experienced modelers. I can't help you assemble the model. Take each step one by one and get through it like any other model.
Maybe it's just me but I don't have much luck with AMT kits, period. This AMT kit #1039 is a classic example. Very thin gauge of plastic, ill fitting parts, confusing instructions accompanied by patheticillustrations. Yes, lots of parts and detail, but that just simply exacerbates the previous mentioned. I won't buy another AMT kit unless it's absolutely necessary. I'm sticking with Revell and others. :^)
Have you ever purchased a kit, and brought it home with great anticipation? Then, after a week or two into the build you discover the kit is a piece of crap? Over engineered, over detailed with some parts so small they're barely identifiable. Tires did not fit the wheels. Assembling the frame was like a Chinese jig saw puzzle! I seriously question the accuracy of the scale it's self. Placed alongside other 1:25 scale trucks I have built, (other brands), this one is small and odd looking. I couldn't force myself to finish the build and tossed the whole thing. Jus sayin.
This is my third AMT kit, and all I can say is they are awful !! My first two went into the bin, but as I love this Mack truck, I thought third time lucky. How wrong was I !! The castings are dreadful and the instructions are beyond useless ! I've been building plastic kits for well over 60 years, and these are the worst I've ever come across !

The rubber duck mack was an r700.longer bonnet is all
let me know how it goes!
The rubber duck is on the chrome tree next to the large mack logo
I found ejector pin excess plastic inside the 'C' channel of the frame rails. Bought this a few weeks ago from HL. At 40% off it was only $24 and I'm really enjoying the build.
Cool!
Looks like a blast to build and paint up with nice options to boot. Great review...Thank you!

great review! I live near the Mack Macungie, Pa. assembly plant so around here there is no other truck! great kit! thanks...
Thanks Chris, must be cool seeing all those new trucks all the time.
Great review Chris, in the late 70's my dad drove for matlack. I'll really enjoy building truck.
Thanks!

You should do an update video for this kit if you built it. Would love to see it built!
Yah, I having trouble with some parts lining up or I just doing something wrong.
I'm trying to get one of these, a lot of memories hauling gravel in one of these trucks with my Dad, plan to paint it up the same as the company at the time as a commemorative piece.
They have them at www.autoworldstore.com that and many other kits of course.

Managed to get my dirty mittens on ERTL's International Transtar II Eagle....looking forward to get it!
Enjoy!
Trying to decide what to do with it, what company....Navajo Freight Lines maybe! 🤨🤔
great looking kit and good review. Your passion for macks really comes through

Amazing kit. Great job showing it.
Thanks!

This one looks like a hit, I can see a lot being sold.
Oh thank god u have this I just got this last week and the engine is a big pain in the butt trust me it's a big pain

Santa brought me one. Great review Chris, maybe you could build it too one day.
Thanks, I appreciate the support and nice words!

Outstanding review!! Man all them parts... gotta love it!
Thanks Brian, yeah and all the little logos, love it.

Thinking gravel trailer for this lady....🤨🤔😎
Nice clean kit . Especially seeing that it's an amt kit.The old ones were horrible !!
Round2 has done a great job with these old molds and bringing back the classics. They really seem to want to reissue so many kits we all want.
That's all I used to build.Dad was a truck driver.Bet I had at least a dozen.
Yeah!, I'll take two. Thank you! I'm glad AMT didn't over do the chrome, like the MPC DM600. Of course they include those awsome red and amber light sprues. Great review!
Thanks Dan, I think this will sell out fast too.
Is it possible to fit a dump bed on it?
Cerious does anyone know anyone who can scratch build a trailer like in the movie convoy that the rubber duck pulled?

Do you half to have them on the shelf
I built the old version of this in the seventies, less than ten bucks at the time
Everything was way less back then :)

Ah good. Cheers mate
What a Great Review of a Great Kit. Thanks. Jeff
Thanks Jeff!
I wish they made a hummve or a hemmt or an lmtv with this amount of detail
They make all those kits in 1/35 scale, the most popular scale for land military vehicles.
Awesome kit, Great review bud!

They need to bring back the Convoy truck, Rubber Duck , the one from the Movie, then I will buy the Mack truck
I forgot that the Pabst was molded in blue
Let's get it on...👍
The chassis side thing is bent out on the end. Is that right?
