- Polo shirts are an essential part of most men's wardrobe. They're a little more dressed up than t-shirts, but they're not nearly as formal actual dress shirts or even casual button up shirts.

Polos are extremely versatile. You can wear them with shorts, jeans, chinos or even wool trousers. In fact, you can even tuck them in and wear them under a blazer or sport coat.
The problem is, many men don't understand how polo shirts should fit, and they end up wearing ill-fitting polos that make them look shorter and fatter than they really are.
This is especially true for short men because it's hard to find a polo shirt that flatters men 5'8" and under (at least from major brands, without any alterations).
When it comes to how polo shirts should fit, there are three things to pay attention to:
#1: Overall length
#2: Body width (tight vs. baggy)
#3: Sleeve length and width
Remember: a polo shirt that fits is very flattering and versatile. But when your polo doesn't fit well, it's not a good look, especially if you're a man of modest height.

Your advice on polo shirts is once again perfection.
I’ve worn polo’s for decades, mostly with longer sleeves. At 62, I’m now transitioning to shorter sleeves the same way I did from pleated to flat front pants. It’s a little like taking the training wheels off your bike, but once you do it, you’re on your way!
Would you mind trying EQUBIO polo shirts?
i apply these tips to myself. i am 5'11" and a dad bod. my friends started noticing it that i look slim or sometimes my beer belly was gone 😂
I had a bunch of polo shirts tailored at a local tailoring shop that I found through good Yelp reviews. Cost was 30 dollars, probably a bit too high, but I am very happy with the results since off the rack polos are so hard to fit properly for a short guy like myself. The bottom hem was shortened by a few inches and the sides were slimmed as well.

As a new channel your contents are really good. keep up the good work.
Great, helpful video -- thank you!
I've never had a polo with sleeves that DIDN'T go down to my elbows. I should take your advice!
a must have!
Hi wich brand yoyou recommend for hot weather
I'm in Thailand
What do you think Calvin.Klein cotton blend t shirt are good?
That really was a modest solution!
Is it fine if the polo is little loose around its body and half inch below the shoulder? I bought these really expensive polos, only to find one of those wouldn't fit me well.
Great video. Thank you so much!
You're very welcome!
Good video by the way, I liked your unpretentious style.
Problem with a lot of polos is the neck collar is really floppy/has a big neck hole and makes it look like you have a skinny neck. Hilfiger's collars seem to be a bit more rigid/stand up better though.
Can you tell me how to close it please?
About to buy a polo from Lacoste and wonder what size polo you are and how tall you are? for comparison...
What's your opinion on Massimo Dutti polos?
Very helpful video
Love from India 🖤
Most of your advice seems to be directed toward younger men (20-50), but some of us older gents are also concerned with our appearance. Men my age may look fit, but are generally a bit thicker in the middle (38-42 inch waist). The result is that we must wear Large or Extra Large sizes even though we are short. This, in turn, results in sleeve seams that are located an inch or two below the point of our shoulder and sleeves that extend clear down to our elbows. Of course, we could have the sleeves shortened at the bottom, but that still doesn't look like a properly fitted sleeve. Any suggestions?

You can wear one with you traditional Scottish kilt.
Awesome video bro....
Thanks man!
The flat collar bothers me. Is there a reason for it?
Im really pissed off. I bought two Calvin Klein "Liquid Cotton" polos totaling to $100, only worn them once, just put them through the wash, and now they have shrunk. Have you had this kind of dilemma before? What did you do? I literally just through my receipt away last week too. How they fit me now is it sits about right above mid crotch and when I throw my hands up, part of my stomach is exposed.
I love every videos you are making.
Much appreciated!
But I like long polo shirt and can rarely find the one that suits me
Behind the scenes stuff was great, and it's cool to see the new studio setup!
Thanks man! Yeah, I'm getting closer to the point of being able to walk in, hit record and go. Not quite there yet, though.
Enjoying the fitness series btw!
+The Modest Man Thanks. It's a new direction for sure. And I feel you on not quite being able to just hit record and go. We'll get there!
Right on!
How tall are you?
I remember seeing that there was a specially tailored polo shirt that is shorter than most. Is that Brooks Brothers or Lacoste?
Lacoste
best intro
hey! If I'm 167 cm = 5.479 feet; how much should be the lenght of my polo shirt? Thank you
Did you watch the whole video?
Great videos! Could you do something about popping the collar on polos?? Some advice and tips/opinions etc would be amazing :)
I don't really ever pop the collar, with one exception: if I'm wearing a long sleeve polo over a button up shirt (like instead of a v-neck sweater). In that case, I'll put the collar up. But I wouldn't do it without a layer underneath. Just a little too "my dad will sue you" for my taste ;)
The Modest Man ahhh I see! That's fair enough lol but still think a video would be super useful for those of us who do love the popped polo look :) especially around Kensington and Chelsea in London it's super popular! Thoughts?
I found that ralph laurens Large kids size fits me good! Im 5'5
5'4 and large chaps polos fit nice
Poncho ornelas Me, too! I’m a kids medium, 5/9, 96lbs.
P Ed 96lbs? Wtf
video starts at :55
Where'd you get the shorts from?
Got them from a secondhand store. Not sure where they're from originally. The label says "HWBY" but I can't find them anywhere online.
+The Modest Man Darn, I tried to look for them as well but couldn't find them, thanks anyway though
Yeah I'm honestly terrified that a tailor is going to be expensive or mess up a shirt.
You gotta try it. Sure, it's a little risky, but trust me: it's totally worth it.
The Modest Man
I know, I'll check out your find a tailor series.
You should get a custom fit t shirt
+EaZy DuzZlT from where?
What about us guys with a body that is ample but not chubby. If it fits in the shoulders, it doesn't fit in the waist!
I disagree with your take on sleeve length. Most polo shirts today have sleeves that are TOO short. Prefer sleeves to touch or almost touch my forearm.
+njpete987 just wondering, why do you prefer longer sleeves?
No offense, but I think most polo shirts today have sleeves that are too short and look (kinda) feminine. Sorry.
njpete987 everyone will think you have 0 sense of style. That is the reality. I am sorry.
The first 50 seconds are pointless, the rest is great

At the end of the day, its slways about the plug for the shirt company
Wrong channel, buddy. This isn’t a sponsored vid 👍🏻
Damn, nearly 1 1/2 minutes just to get to the beginning of the video. Waste of time.
Only YOU can waste your own time, my friend.
Oh your polo collars are so wrong
I usually wear a large but, I read a review that says it shrinks. I got The Polo Ralph Lauren Men's classic fit jersey, and went up a size since I'm a bodybuilder, and want to be on the safe side. I definitely wouldn't want to take it to a tailor since their clothing is pricy, and that unfortunately would ruin it taking away part of the authenticity of the tee. I'm still waiting for my order by the way.
