When spectacular spiderman first came out the concept of peter being in highschool wasn't really repetitive at that point, and they were also planning on making him graduate highschool and go onto college. Imagine what they could of done if they actually were able to finish the show and then later made a new show with the character miles (yes i know he wasn't created at that point) and have peter be like a mentor to him

I love how he gave off heavy father vibes to Miles and was also a huge comedy act. I love how he was able to change his ways and make things right with his MJ, which is something that I feel like Spider-Man tries to show most of the time, that no matter how many times he gets knocked down, he will always get back up and come back to make things right.

If you want a story about a Peter Parker who ages and goes through a lot of changes throughout his life, I'd really recommend reading Spider-Man: Life Story (even though you probably already have if you're reading the comments on this video). The basic premise of the book is to explore what Peter's life would've been like if his history in the main comics universe happened in real-time instead of Marvel time, beginning with him as a teenager in the 1960s, and ending with him as an old man in the 2010s. It's one of the best Spider-Man comics ever made, and the ending made me cry.

Which from the point where he was bitten by the spider or possibally when he became known as Spider-man. @CouncilCape897 Год назад +14

That's assuming his being 15 when he became Spider-Man in the comics applies to the movie. From my understanding, he's either 38 or 39. Blonde Peter is stated to have been Spider-Man for 10 years, and his gravestone reads 1991-2018, meaning he was going to turn 27, so he must've begun his career at 17. Assuming Peter B. Parker became Spider-Man at the same exact age, he must be 39 because he has been fighting crime for 22 years.

But nowhere in the film is it stated his birthday is in August. It's true that the character debuted in August in the real world, but it doesn't necessarily apply to this movie or any other adaptation as Peter's birth month. Solid breakdown. As an older Spidey fan (closer to Peter B than any other version), a couple of things:
    1) in my favorite animated take on Spidey, the 90s cartoon, Peter was in college. I don't remember you mentioning that in your vid, but I was always grateful it wasn't a teen drama.
    2) Spidey does graduate HS in the Tobey&Andrew Garfield versions, we just haven't seen him progress beyond that in live action. But saying he never does isn't technically true.
    3) Others have mentioned it in the comments already, but both Spider-Man: Reign and Life Story play with the idea of Peter aging realistically since the 60s. Life Story does it better.
And also, be kind to us old-heads, Peter B is *not* in his 50s! Like early 40s at the oldest, sheesh!

I think the thing that makes Spider Man so appealing is that Peter is constantly putting others before himself, even to the cost of himself, and throughout that, you feel bad for Peter. We look up to Spidey and a lot of heroes because they do the right thing, not what's in their best interest.
Juxtaposed to that, we have Peter B Parker, who we finally see the wear and tear being a hero can really do to a man, and how unaccomplished one can still feel even if they're doing something noble. Sometimes the human spirit doesn't want to do it. It's a refreshing take and one you can sympathize with.

I think one of my favourite things about Peter B. Parker is the reaction to MJ wanting kids. When you hear the tone in his voice when he mentions it, you can tell that he isn't against the thought. He's not scared of having kids. He's scared FOR the kids.
In a world full of supervillains and menaces, and even those like Carnage, if they find out about the children, they would be in extreme danger, especially at a young age.
But after Peter mentors miles, practically being another father figure, he understands how much important it really is to be close to the girl he wants to protect and motivates him to get back up and swing away from the void. It gives him a chance to talk to MJ again, because by the end of it, he's ready.
He may not know what the future holds if he gets back with her to start a family. But it's like he and Miles both said: *It's a leap of faith.*

6:15 This is exactly a problem I have with a lot of “Peter and Miles” adaptations. People want Tom’s Spider-Man to meet Miles… but Tom’s Spider-Man doesn’t even know who he is. MCU Spidey is about as clueless as Miles, he can’t teach him how to be Spider-Man because he himself doesn’t know how to become Spider-Man.
I think PS4 Spider-Man and Into the Spiderverse’ Spider-Man are great stories about Peter and Miles because Peter is actually older than Miles and knows a thing or two about a thing or two. You can’t have Peter and Miles interact with each other if Miles is the same age as Peter. In fact, they’re not supposed to interact at all if Peter is alive, but since writers want these two to meet for some reason instead of Miles just learning how to be Spider-Man by himself, then I’d say just don’t make Miles Spider-Man until Peter is in his 30’s and has a complete arc.

That's one of my favorite things about the universes where he isn't a kid, they can tell some of his best stories because he's an adult with adult issues. Web of Shadows, Spider-Man ps4, the 90s series. They all have him being either late university or an actual full adult just trying to make a go of being Spider-Man while also trying to keep Peters life together. It's less structured and more real, and has better stories and lessons to be had that almost always get left off the table. I hate that they keep resetting him and many other of my favorite characters, just to tell the same story again. Growth is good, and real. They are so worried it won't make as much money that they won't even try it, despite us seeing time and again that the superhero fan age is increasing and the appeal is most certainly there for older characters with rich adult lives, kids, etc. I would kill for a series with Peter and MJ having their child May, and the way he has to navigate that while being Spider-Man dealing with a baby, small child, teenager, etc, maybe with her eventually becoming Spider-Girl or whatever.

As time is going on, I had grown up with the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man for quite a long time. And during that time, i’d say it was the most happiest time of my life because it was just fucking great but when I do you look at current Spider-Man with hindsight, I do believe that there are issues with Peter staying young forever because the problem is, I’m not gonna be young forever people people who love Spider-Man are not gonna stay young forever so keeping him young would be an issue because it’s gonna be the same plot over and over and that’s not gonna be appealing anymore. I even had a discussion about this a long while back that young Peter Parker isn’t great forever. I always thought Toby would be the oldest of the bunch but now he’s just barely coming out of college himself.
Then when Spider-Verse Peter B. Parker first came to screen and I instantly love the concept and character because it’s something I in so many other Spider-Man fans have been wanting. A Spider-Man who matures with time. He is supposed to be the every man hero and to reflect that, he can have every man problems. To hear that the most influential writer of Spider-Man thinks the only way to keep him appealing is to keep them young is very arrogant if I may say. As you said though, the mirror existence of Peter B Parker debunks that entirely and I couldn’t agree more. Having characters age and grow can work a lot in their development and can ultimately creates probably more memorable characters than what they were originally.

On the note of Peter and MJ always breaking up, while it was briefly mentioned, I would like to give some more details on a specific circumstance. That deal that Peter made with Mephisto was to save the world. The ONLY stipulations to this deal were that time would be rewound to just before Peter and MJ got together (their memories included) and that Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson could never be together. For the entire rest of the storyline Peter and MJ were still super in love with each other, but just couldn't bring themselves to admit their feelings to each other because of the curse. Right near the end of the storyline MJ finally admits to Peter that she loves him, except at this point Peter's mind had been switched with a decrepit old and dying Otto Octavious. Of course, because the writers hate us and Peter's happiness, Otto goes along with it and takes MJ to pound town JUST TO CUCK PETER! After that, Peter appeals to Ottos morals to save the day and then DIES!

The one thing that Peter B Parker brings out, that most of us can relate to, is realism. The fact that his environment and world is constantly growing and changing and he does the same. Like any other human being, his character grows and learns through a long process of relationships and his past experiences as spiderman and as himself when he has the chance to be. Honestly, he's more relatable than most spider men in the MC Universe or at least from alternate universes.

Speaking as someone who's read the first 9 issues of ASM Vol. 6 (and thinks it's fairly average so far), it's worth pointing out that the time skip at the start is only 6 months, and MJ's kids look like they're at least a few years old, *and* they have her and Peter's hair colors. We still don't know what the deal is with these kids, or why her and Peter aren't together, or even what happened prior to the time skip. For all we know, the kids could somehow be her's and Peter's.
I'm not thrilled about them being broken up again, especially since they just got back together only a few years ago, but if the book does something interesting with these ideas and tells an engaging story it might be worth it.
Or it could crash and burn and become a total dumpster fire. We'll have to wait and see I guess.

Peter Parker needs to grow as a person whereas still keeping his youthful charm. That's why I love the Insomniac game so much because of how they made Peter an adult who has been Spider-Man for 8 years; making the story fresh. I get it, his origins are always near and dear to everyone but gosh, we have so many other stories left to tell like Kraven's Last Hunt or Spider-Man Blue. Hopefully MCU Spider-Man can do justice.

Wasn't there a fable, where a hopeless dethroned King, was motivated by a spider, who was climbing up its web but kept falling again & again to the bottom, only to rise up and try again. Another issue with the constant resets is that it leads to adding new things to make the origin era of the character different.
    - TASM incorporated a mystery plot about Peter’s parents and corporate secrets to make it less of a rehash of the Raimi movie. They could still include the focus on Peter’s abandonment issues with his parents, but not have to integrate it into the spider bite.
    - MCU had Peter sort of become Tony’s protege (except we never really see or hear anything of them interacting outside of the scenes they’re in together), he has multiple teched out suits, his best friend learns his identity immediately, Aunt May finds out and is just cool with it (implied messy conversations aren’t enough). An underlying issue of MCU itself is the lack of consequences. While they do occasionally have consequences present, there’s plenty more instances of these things happening that should have big impacts to the world that just don’t happen. The Sokovia accords stopped being relevant halfway through Civil War, Wakanda opening it’s doors to share its technology hasn’t had any impacts outside of one joke in Infinity War, Aunt May finding out doesn’t lead to a massive conflict between her and Peter, etc. In the end, everything just goes back to normal with the implication that things have changed when they haven’t.
I’ve always had this little idea of how different the MCU would have been if Tony recruited Peter when he was in College and he’s been active as Spider-man for about 2 years (maybe even a soft reboot of TASM with Andrew Garfield coming back to the character still grieving over Gwen). It would give him more experience, skip over the origin (properly), and add more justification to Tony recruiting Peter into the fight. And then imagine if Peter never got dusted in Infinity War. The time jump would allow for his rogues gallery to be expanded on without entire movies dedicated to introducing them. It could also open the door to Miles being introduced with enough of an age gap for Peter to be like a parental mentor.

I’d argue that Peter in high school is very important as it’s not the age that matters, it’s seeing the journey of a young amateur hero grow into a seasoned veteran and like it or not if we first MCU Spider-Man in college rather than high school that journey wouldn’t feel that satisfying which is why MCU Peter is probably going to have a much better story compared to Tobey’s and Andrew’s combined. Peter B Parker is my favorite Spidey but I think he would work a lot better if we saw his slow downfall instead of just a quick montage.

The problem is that when you do it slowly you make it more dumber and dumber in movie form. In tv form you can get away with that because you can mix simple episode with big episodes. With movies, particulary trilogies, every movie has to be big and each sequels has to represent an organic steap on character development than doing the same mistakes and learning the same lessons like a home alone/ ghostbusters/ jurrasic park sequel. Look at the how to train your dragon trilogy in each instalment hicup learn something diferent in each and literally become a mature adult at the end of his journey, Tom holland spiderman repeat the same mistakes in each movie (including the avengers crossovers) to stay in the same position that he was in square one, only this time with no training wheels. I don't give a shit that it was a slow burn or that it was "all planed" (i mean does that mean the vulture and scorpion will come back with morbing time and coockie monster venom?) Him learning about responsability should have beeing movie ONE not movie 3 (or crossover 4 i don't know im getting sick of cinematic universes). Thats why i will never seeing him better than tobey or andrew because least they knew their foundation better than him even if their sequels blew them up.
