you forgot one thing with running and i didnt see anyone covering this in their tips vid and thats jumping you can actually jump in this game when you are running push the left stick to jump
you shouldnt be going into boss rooms with souls... theres literally a thingy right by the door.. and you can always transport back to the hotel to level up which is what you should be doing before going into a boss room..
When I started playing, I learned that perfect parrying was going to be the most essential skill to learn throughout the play-through that was going to help me the most during boss battles and just trudging through regular enemies. So I mainly focused on learning how to do that. I would pick a particularly hard enemy and just practice over and over with the perfect parry until I was able to do it more times than not. This helped me immensely against the later game bosses. Especially the very final boss in the game which allowed me to beat him on the 6th attempt after learning the attacks. Perfect parry is absolutely the most valuable skill to learn and get down in this game.
Same just picked up the game yesterday 3rd boss i refused to use a summon and purposly didnt doge the whole fight and only used parry till it became second nature helped alot
Yea I didn't doge him either however I used a summons not fully knowing what I did till it was too late! He didn't even touch me as he was too busy hammering the summoner😂
It really is fun when you learn their movesets. That's the main thing I just beat elden ring my first souls game is every boss I go in expecting to fail but learn the counters
Parry tip: Use the dummy’s at the hotel and get the timing down. They do a small wind up and a fury attack. Helpful if you’re a panic button tapper during the windup of an attack
Yea I'm not too good at these games but am in love with this game & found myself on those dummies for several hours until I could perfect block about 90 percent of the time & then I proceed into the levels
btw if you are really having trouble with parrying and cant stand those red attacks there is a amulet if you kill the puppet devouring monster just find alidoro and trade his ergo for his ghost walk amulet which lets you dodge red attacks
@@rellcol4797 all you really need it is for those red rage attacks, wait till they change color, start it up and it lasts long enough for 90% of attacks 🤷🏼♂️
Idk if it’s in the video but you can fast climb ladders from holding sprint as well. Common thing in souls-like games but I bet some of you guys didn’t know
For assembling weapons... Weapon head will define the strength and type of attack affinity (slash or stab). Handle will define the scaling (motivity, technique, advance) and the moveset. The handle will also affect the damage type in the way that a handle with a stabbing moveset will result in less damage with a weapon head that has lower stab affinity than slash.
I'm not sure if I need to be upgrading blades or handles more often...I'm using a technique build with a rapier. Do I upgrade the blade or the handle to get more damage?
If you're struggling with the game a Motivity build with health, stamina and carry weight pumped up to 25-30, rest into motivity, can get quite tanky making it a lot easier to survive multiple hits while hitting like a truck. Equipment-wise put on more physical resistance whenever you can, currently sitting at 180+ base with an additional 50'ish from equipment sitting in my level 80s.
It seems that if you die again with death ergo on the ground, the death ergo will be teleported to your most recent death spot - but it will be reduced by half.
Thank you for not spoiling! I seen other videos like this where the creator showed him kicking ass in the whole game every boss etc I was so mad it was spoiled for me do thank you!
One thing to note for weapon crafting that I’ve noticed, it seems that there may be motion values for damage. For example you can put the electric coil head on the salamander dagger handle and have similar damage when inspecting the weapon, but in practice you will deal significantly less damage. Alternatively instead of motion values it could be that putting a blunt blade on a slashing/piercing handle causes damage drop off. More testing will be needed I suppose. Food for thought.
Just to add, this game has a bug that if you perfect Perry and they're attacking multiple times just hold in the perfect Parry block button and it will perfect Parry all of the moves in that hit combo
Excellent guide with no Spoilers. been farmin for Ergo and am advancing slowly but surely. This helped a lot. Wish I had seen your video yesterday before granting quartz to different slots on my P-organ. You live and you learn. thanks!
To anyone struggling with red attacks and parry, highly recommend going for great sword, it has awesome dmg reduction and its handle special gives a temp guaranteed perfect parry
The weapon combination system you need to take note of the stats of blades and hilts where it shows "=", "-" and arrow down icon for Slash and Stab under Attack Type. If you apply a SLASH ONLY blade to a STAB ONLY hilt you'll do less damage, and vice versa, for example.
Yes, thank you. This is such a huge deal, it's crazy they don't make a bigger deal about it in the game, you can easily double your damage on some attacks if your hilt and blade are aligned.
It should be noted that unlike the perfect deflections in sekiro, or parry timing in dark souls. the perfect parry timing window is activated by when you press the block button. If the attack were to hit you within the window of time right after activating block, it will trigger a perfect parry. So just like the other games, you will suffer more if you spam block, it is going to be significantly more advantageous for new players to learn to press block as few times as possible when trying to catch that parry.
that is not “unlike” Sekiro, it’s EXACTLY like Sekiro. it’s probably where they got the idea from. Did you actually play that game? Sekiro doesn’t play like Dark Souls really at all…
Thank you for not spoiling enemy types! You got my sub. Drives me nuts when ppl have starting tips and show mid and late games enemies/bosses those dudes suck! Thanks again!
Also pro tip: you can teleport back to the hotel and go out to the training dummies to completely refill your fabled arts. Helps when doing this before a boss fight.
I have gone through with a technique build and no parrying just rolling. It works fine - esp once you get the amulet to roll with any stamina. Trident is awesome. I’ll probably try a parry run though when I’m done. Point - if you don’t like / normally don’t parry, this game is still very playable.
Can't remember if you mentioned it, but there is also a jump if you run and use L3 on PlayStation. This way, you can miss some of the falling bridges and booby traps.

I AM THE GUY WHO DODNT KNOW HOW TO RUN! THANK YOU IMMENSELY BROTHER!!!!!!❤
I think it's incredible that people can't figure something so simple out. Even just to accidentally run across it. The game teaches you how to hold X to enter into your belt. Giving you information that they have implemented mechanics that require you to hold buttons. The charge attack requires you to hold buttons. The handle Fable art requires you to hold buttons. On top of that so many other games require you to hold the Dodge button to run which is exactly what lies of P does. This is why the developer makes no mention of it because it's such a common mechanic and video games I think they just expected people to get it. But what they don't know is a lot of Americans are buying this video game and honestly Americans are idiots. I know I'm one of them
Great stuff my guy, was totally lost with all the menu's and systems. Never played a souls game before and was getting morb'ed by rank and file enemies. Appreciate the help, you got a sub!

Thanks for the quartz tip, I did not realise that was what was going on so I spread them out, thankfully I only had 2 or 3 so its not to bad. That would have sucked to find out later.
A quick tip that I found out is by going into the practice room in the hotel and come out your fable should be fully charged. I didn't notice until I began with no fable and came out with full fable. I also noticed if you died and you didn't pickup your ergo back up, the skill which lets you do a perry with the handle, will use up a fable when you miss. Now if you picked up or have your ergo intact, using the perry skill will allow you have your fable if you miss. That too is something I learned.
@14:15 - if you die again then the ergo gets halved from the original amount (in this example, 371), you don't lose them all. Not sure about NG+ but this is how it works on a fresh save.

Thanks for the video, specifically for managing to avoid spoilers. I am about to start my adventure. It seems strength-like build is what I am going to go for. As to run-button, I am quite surprise people find it after many hours in the game. Usually, they give you tips at the beginning. If not, I always check what's assigned to buttons :)
Outstanding job on the video! Well done, good sir! Also, when you said, "run away.." a few times, I always thought of Monty Python and the Holy Grail! lol

Fantastic helpful guide. Thanks for the time and detail into everything. Had no choice but to subscribe. After 100 raid promos you may have convinced me on that too
I may have made my life more difficult than I should have by chosing to go a more technique oriented build for my first playthrough because all the early game weapons seem to be scaled for everything other than technique but I'm having fun with the decent stamina pool and the lighter more dodgy playstyle. Although having said that I may not be able to take too many hits but I can run, dodge, and attack quite a bit before depleting my stamina completely, so it's not a total loss.
Worth noting: alt weapon adds to weight (probably could have shown heavy if you equipped it). But unequipped inventory does not - so there's not a weight reason to leave items in storage.
I've never played a souls game before, and am more of a casual gamer, so thank you for this guide! The game is painful and confusing so far, but hope I'll get a bit better.
i like that the backstep is actually useful to dodge with. almost as good as the Remnant backstep. but the Souls backsteps, even in ER, NEVER go back far enough to ever get out the way, plus no I-frames…. i don’t think this one does either, but it has good distance, and quickly. only Remnant has an I-frame backstep, which is why it’s so good there. almost a completely neutral dodge edit: what they should have done with durability would be to make your weapon do some blunt dmg when it gets lower, so for edge weapons it would mostly be the same as it is now, but then blunt weapons would actually do MORE damage before they were about to break, so it would provide to “risk + reward” with the system. or at least have that as one of the p-organ options.
When I found my first pink butterfly I got so annoyed that it decided to tell me to kill it after it had disappeared, luckily it wasn't to far from a stargazer.
Ah not gonna lie at all I made it to the title cutscene where you go into the hub place .......(not trying to spoil) without realizing there was a run button...Boss man kept kicking my ass
Am I the only one who's never seen that weapon he's using? I'm currently trying to beat the first big boss right after the first time you can buy things... Any help would be massively appreciated ❤
He's like the second vendor you meet in that house next to the elevator he sells it for I think 500 ergo. I'm assuming you probably got it by now but just in case!
@rodmondh Is that before the carnival master puppet? I've kinda gave up right now what with being really busy at work.... I'm gonna give it a go this evening again but thank you 😊
I felt that running advice I discovered Ash of Wars in Elden Ring after my first blind playtrough when it released 😂 Lets just say I was very surprised when I pressed L2 for the first time in NG+ 😂

When I found my first pink butterfly I got so annoyed that it decided to tell me to kill it after it had disappeared, luckily it wasn't to far from a stargazer.
im blown away by this game , didnt expect it at all, and i wont get started with Optimzation and performance 👌👌👌👌
Can’t wait for DLC later this year and hopefully a sequel.
For the first tip. On pc I use sekiro settings. Shift for dodge and sprint and parry on right click. Its easier to time it like that.
Great tips, thank you!
Lamp goes different colour (red or orange) when there”s a butterfly near by.
I didnt know you can sprint, great!!
There's jump to that's the 1 to really show cuz u have to do it certain areas
Ah not gonna lie at all I made it to the title cutscene where you go into the hub place .......(not trying to spoil) without realizing there was a run button...Boss man kept kicking my ass
Comprehensive video and very well explained. I just gotta slam the subscribe 👌🏿👌🏿
Back when resident evil 2 came out for ps1 I finished the game without running.... never knew you could run until I saw someone else play it! 😢
You can also sell your ergo fragments for the same ergo which is a nice small detail in this game.
You can do that in souls games too
Side note, you can break boss weapons with a parry. Not sure if it's EVERY boss but I've broken 2 so far. No spoilers of course.
The run button part made me laugh but then i realized the amount of hours i put into skyrim before i learned i could sprint lol.
You can also jump while holding the run button click LS
Anybody who has played the game knows they tell you the dash/run at the very first checkpoint.
Clearly not judging by comments, and the fact that there's always someone who didn't know. But hey, ignorance is bliss :)
Didn't know I could run, thanks!!
Im 5 hrs into this game, and my headcannon is that this is the spiritual successor to bloodborne.
I'm gonna give it a go this evening again but thank you 😊
@@StevieH-1872 It is before the first big boss. It is extremely helpful and useful for the first few chapters.
Thank you so much. I'm new to the souls like
Very helpful with all the basics, thanks Bro
There is also a jump, well a run jump.
i was level 20 before i defeated "parade motor" (the only way i bear bloodborne and dark souls 3 was because you can summon people from multiplayer)
I felt that running advice
I discovered Ash of Wars in Elden Ring after my first blind playtrough when it released 😂
Lets just say I was very surprised when I pressed L2 for the first time in NG+ 😂
great starter vid cheers bro
Glad you enjoyed it
Game just came out, how can you wish you knew already
There was a demo + early access. Today is the perfect time for a video like this. Strike while the iron's hot 😉
I got early access before the public early access to review the game and for stuff like this. Just stuff I’ve learned in my time so far that hopefully helps people jumping in today.
Can you make a video on how to do taxes next?
