  • Damo Mitchell in the forests of Sweden, chatting about the recent explosion of poor mental health which resulted from the Covid era. He looks at the nature of believing ones own mind as well as how extreme visualisation within the internal arts may contribute to a loss of sense of reality.
    The main section of the podcast talks about the difference between the paths of 'sensation' and 'cultivation', two roads that are presented to a practitioner when they first start out within an art such as Qigong.

    Fantastic talk as always. Informative, helpful and enjoyable.
    For me lock down was an opportunity that gave me a chance to reflect on what mattered to me- connection, awareness, cultivation...
    It's a great point about sensation. Though just being at the level of pleasant, neutral, unpleasant and then observing whether there's craving or aversion can also help with awareness.
    And, I loved the humour including about accents.

    Thank you for sharing this, especially in your expressive style. I discovered Qigong in one these sensation based schools.., amazing how compelling that projection was for me and fully took it on. Glad I gave this system up, when I took my power to recognize what was happening, what I was teaching to others, and that I felt like an imposter to boot. I still think effects linger.... These paths of sensation can appeal to those who seek these practices to fill a sense of lack, being psychological-disenfranchised, rejected, weak, vulnerable, lost, searching, etc. When imagination can be manipulated into something that feels viscerally powerful to vulnerable people, it could be attached and latched onto as a means to become better/more powerful version of who you are....And then it is easy for mentally unstable to believe these sensations are true, are power, and then a fair share of dissociation and projection helps one feel like they have escaped pain into a new world.... I was one of these. So glad that chapter is turned by now and I am no longer energetically tethered to it as a practice. I hope to try out your systems methods one day, perhaps to see if I can find some basic things to help reverse some of this still in my system. Thank you for these candid talks it helps me want to speak out for my mistskes.

    Hi, this soliloquy reminds me of something I heard somewhere in your body of work on cultivation, about the quality of densification of qi. Something about 'skinny qi' that cracked me up; ooh, someone probably markets that for weight loss! But then I was like, dang sis, that'll blow out the knees for certs, bad idea. 🤣😁🙏🏼

    Thank you for sharing. What a good talk about sensation vs cultivation.
    Many young people are in self isolation because of trauma. Games, movies, books, scrolling on social media to see how others live, might be what helps them to distract themselves.
    Aren’t sensation important for a cultivator too, such that he/she knows whether he/she is doing the right thing? The major difference is that the cultivator doesn’t seek the sensation?

    Thank you for the explanation. The Sensation vs cultivation differences part has made me question some things in my own practice. I have practiced Qiqong and Neigong type work for a number of years now and have been using feeling and sensation to educate my qi feeling in my body to try and practice as I was taught. Are you saying that the difference is that when cultivating you do the work and the correct training and then you get the transformation and its unmistakable and its not something you try and educate and feel? If the mind, body and qi are integrated, can we not use the mind and yi to educate the qi through feeling? It seems thats it a razors edge between the two approaches to be able to discern the real from the fabricated. This is a genuine question and not a challenge, I am really interested in getting on the right path. thank you

    Interesting take on what sounds like a version of the classical view of the senses being the 5 theives?
    Q. Is the pursuit of (physical) imortality and beleif in the value of that pursuit possibly a psychologically unhealthy attachment to the want to perpetuate sensate existence eternally? (and if that is the case is this not possibly an error in approach?).
    Is it possible that the senses including their relationship with the internal and external worlds possible vehicles to explore the phenomenon of body-mind-existence-and both the subtle as well as ordinary states of perception? Thus potentially leading to ever deeper insights into the nature of self? In which case is it not possible that the sense-gates and their relationship with the aspect of mind that is generated by the brain and nervous system a vector through which ever deeper states of self can be discovered until such point whereby when the light of awareness, when turned inwards for long enough so that the dropping away of identification with the beleif in a separate self occurs...
    In which case, are the sense gates and the resulting phenomenon experienced through them possibly portals to liberation from overly identifying with a separate and limited beleif of self?...
    Just wondering out loud (in silence) to the video content, through the medium of conceptual language, thats all.

    Mr Mitchell, first and foremost i like to express my appreciation for the work you do. It has depth and you are well-spoken.
    I also have some points of criticism.
    First about non-voting: There are heroes that have literally given their lives for us to vote freely. This is a profound gift to humanity.
    It might not be perfect but that's the nature of politics. Best part: We can be part of politics if we think we can do better.
    Secondly about the fear mongering:
    I think it's true yhat many people with different interests contribute to this field. Yet you seem to suggest that it's all a bit nonsense because the virus wasn't so bad after all and world war 3 hasn't happened yet.
    Until the next virus does kill half the population and the nukes are flying.
    For the record: I don't want to be insulting but really feel strong about these ones. With respect.

      Thanks for commenting.
      As for voting = if I felt it made a difference, I would feel differently. Maybe voting meant something in the past and maybe not? These days, to me, it doesn’t. Just distraction for the masses so they feel involved, all an illusion.
      But, if taking part makes people feel good then I say go for it!
      Fear mongering = if it happens or it doesn’t happen; no need to worry about it. Plugging yourself into the news and fearing nuclear disaster day in and day out won’t make a difference to whether or not it happens 🤷🏼‍♂️
      If you feel that you aren’t stressed out and going mad then feel free to watch all the news and consume all the media. My point was that many out there are not coping well mentally because of all the media input and those people should stop worrying and forget it all. They can resume concern when the nukes start dropping! For about all of the five minutes we have left before everybody dead and then none of us have anything to fear anyway! 😂😂😂

    Are there ways of cultivating qi that you have become confident in that do not fall into the description of ‘practised’ like for example being quiet in nature or observing contemplative arising thought without attachment, or when one recognises a state of real gratitude or humility and resides there for example. It makes sense to me that there must be more naturally occurring circumstances that also engage the ‘listening’ skill that are beneficial. I practiced qigo g and tai qiquan for years but became disillusioned by my teachers / masters behaviour. I laugh at the word master now (laughing at my own capture) has there ever really been a real master? Damo, what would be the difference in outcome for ones life in quiet contemplation and imbibing nature in its varied forms and a correct and focused qigong practice? Thank you for the podcast I think this one was the most important so far! 🙏🏻

    • @LotusNeiGong
      @LotusNeiGong  5 дней назад +1

      There is qi to be cultivated from the correct mindset, for sure, as you describe here. But there is a vast difference with proficiency with Qigong whereby qi accumulation and absorption is much higher. Meditation the same :)
      The best would be a combination of what you describe above + a good and regular practice!

  • @pesterian
    @pesterian 5 дней назад

    In regards to the Qi cultivation from visualization. QI generates and moves via awareness, you can and do generate Qi via visualization because it puts awareness where you visualize. Otherwise, I do agree with the concern of over visualization.

    • @LotusNeiGong
      @LotusNeiGong  5 дней назад +1

      I disagree wholeheartedly :) to simply place the visualising mind in a location does not build nor cultivate Qi. That was a major part of what I was trying to explain. This has been a major misunderstanding within the internal arts for a long time now.
      But if visualising makes you feel good then I am pro it for you :)

    • @pesterian
      @pesterian 5 дней назад

      @@LotusNeiGong visualization acts as an anchor for your mind if used correctly. You're describing visualization as an art incorrectly and thus drawing incorrect conclusions. You're throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

      There are different words for visualisation and imagination for a reason. But I think this is a matter of terms. 😊

    • @LotusNeiGong
      @LotusNeiGong  5 дней назад

      The less ‘active’ the mind is, the better. The art of Qigong is based around stable, passive attention and little more with regards to the mind. If this particular description, somehow matches what you mean when you say ‘visualise’ then sure, visualise away. If ‘visualise’ means anything more than this then throw it out with the bath water please! 😁

      @@LotusNeiGong I can’t speak on behalf of that other guy but I stand corrected on this matter.🤭 however there are some practices which are not ”qi gong” that uses visulization, which moves the chi. Is that a good thing, that’s another subject.

    I would love to see a "pitfalls of meditation" video. I remember Adam Mizner saying that many people think they're meditating when they are not. And that seems to hint at something that is not addressed in meditation circles so much.
    People think it's just about showing up (and to a large part that is probably true), but if one has done that for a few decades and nothing has happened, maybe it is better to quit, rather than to stick with it for sticking-with-it-sake. Or at least one could change something...
