- In this video I show how to get Kafei's Mask, the Keaton Mask, Madame Aroma's Empty Bottle, and the Couple's Mask. If you'd like to see how to get the Postman's Hat instead of the bottle then click the link below. You'll need to have access to Ikana Canyon and have Romani's Mask to complete this sidequest (links for these can also be found below).
During the First Day:
On the First Day after 10AM go into the Mayor's Residence and talk to Madame Aroma in the room to the right and she'll give you Kafei's Mask.
When you have Kafei's Mask go to the Stock Pot Inn. At about 2PM the Postman will show up and give Anju a letter. When he leaves, talk to Anju without wearing Kafei's Mask and tell her that you have a reservation (optional). Talk to her while wearing Kafei's Mask and agree to meet her later that night. If you don't get the optional Room Key then at night you'll have to enter the Stock Pot Inn through the 2nd floor door by using the Deku Flower outside in order to meet her.
Do not stop Sakon from stealing the Old Lady's bag. If you stop him, then you'll have to start the sidequest over.
Meet Anju in the kitchen of the Stock Pot Inn at midnight and she'll give you a letter and ask you to mail it. Take the letter and put it into any of the postboxes in Clock Town.
During the Second Day (5:01):
Go to the Laundry Pool before 3PM and wait for the Postman to show up and ring the bell. Kafei will then come out to get his mail. Before he comes back, enter the door that he came out of.
Talk to Kafei in the back of the Curiosity Shop and he'll give you the Pendant of Memories. Go back to the Stock Pot Inn and give the pendent to Anju.
During the Final Day (8:18):
At 1PM (any time is okay on the 3DS version) you can enter the door leading to the back of the Curiosity Shop except this time the owner is there. Talk to him and he'll give you the Keaton Mask as well as the Letter to Mama.
Go to Ikana Canyon and find Kafei hiding near the entrance to Sakon's Hideout. I recommend wearing the Stone Mask instead of trying to hide behind the rock because if Sakon spots you, you'll have to do the whole sidequest over again. Sakon will open the door to his hideout at about 7PM. Enter it when you have control again.
Sakon's Hideout (11:28):
Inside Sakon's Hideout, I recommend using the Spin Attack to get rid of the Deku Babas. Also, waiting for the Wolfos to swing at you twice and the Jump Slashing his back is a good idea. If you step on a red switch as Kafei, it will speed up the conveyor belt that the Sun's Mask is on so immediately step onto a yellow switch to slow it back down. Also, the blocks that Kafei pushes will only move up and down or left and right depending on which sides Majora's faces are on.
Getting Madame Aroma's Empty Bottle (14:37):
After getting the Sun's Mask back, return to Clock Town and enter the Milk Bar. Put Kafei's Mask on and give Kafei's mother the letter. She'll give you an Empty Bottle with Chateau Romani in it. You're actually able to do this any time after 6, but I prefer to get Sakon's Hideout over with first. If you don't have Romani's Mask, however, you'll need to give the letter to her before doing Sakon's Hideout. To get the Postman's Hat instead then give the letter to the Postman in the Post Office sometime after 6 and then talk to him outside of the Milk Bar.
Getting the Couple's Mask (15:55):
Go into Anju's room at the Stock Pot Inn. If you gave Anju the Pendent of Memories on the Second Day she'll be there waiting for Kafei. Kafei will show up with an hour and a half left. A cutscene will play and you'll be given the Couple's Mask.

"We shall greet the morning together"... This hits hard cuz, while we know we will beat Majora and they will in fact see the next day, they don't really know that. In their mind, this is the end, but they want to spend their last moments together. This was my most fave quest in the entire game.
I cried at that part. I almost let the moon fall, so at least they could have that moment together rather then go back for it to never happen. Seeing Kafei at the beginning of the first day putting the letter in the mailbox was heartbreaking.
@@annhatchet3799 I never even thought about that, I was just happy I was able to get through the whole thing. I was like twelve when I started playing this game, the story hits a lot different as an adult.
How did anyone figure all of this stuff out without a guide? I see some of it is hinted through dialogue. But there are so many specific places you have to be at during specific times in order for events to trigger and a lot of it doesn’t seem to be mentioned or hinted at.
The Bombers' Notebook is super useful as it hints, if not outright tells you, that there is something left to do for a particular sidequest.
We had nothing else to do back then lol
I used the notebook to get an idea of when I had to resume the quest.
Yea, and Zelda back then wasn't translated to portuguese, so we brazilians had to give our way
It’s just incredible the amount of time play/ planning and scheduling that goes into Majoras . Let alone the people that 100% it before RUclips videos were ever made. Modern games struggle to have that much adventures. Especially to then make them all harmoniously woven into each other as complementary side quests .
There's something about the interior locations of Clocktown that feels so... comfortable, yet so empty and mysterious at the same time.
Not going to lie, I gave her letter to the hand guy in the Stock Pot Inn on my first playthrough. I wasn't fully aware at that young time, so there you go.
Meh, marriage is overrated anyway. That letter went right where it belongs as far as I'm concerned. ;)
@@EmptyGarbageCan Lol
I was following along and doing this because I wanted an extra bottle for collecting the Zora eggs. I skipped the part with Ikana Canyon because I'm not there yet. I instead went to the Milk Bar and at around 6pm on the final day, Kafei's mom comes in. I talked to her and gave her the letter (while wearing Kafei's mask) and she gave me the bottle. Sweet! Super helpful video man, thanks a lot and have a good one.
I'm glad I could help!
4:04 poor Goron-goro, had to sleep outside, because his room was given away to some Hylian...
Awwww
if Link wasn't a Hylian then that Goron would exist because link saves the Gorons in Ocarina of time, but still, that's pretty sad
If you complete the quest on the last seconds and head to confront majora's mask. There is a scene at the ending, showing these two having their wedding. You have to beat majora's mask and it will show you a from a first person perspective view.
You don't have to beat this quest and then immediately fight Majora. The wedding is permanently shown in the credits once you get the Couple's Mask regardless of if you completed this quest in the current 3-day cycle or not.
Bro I HATED the sakons hideout quest because if you messed up and lost the mask, you would have to completely restart the mission from day 1
That part still stresses me out even though I know I have no problem beating it with time to spare.
@@EmptyGarbageCan
Right. Like Everytime I do it, I can feel my heart racing
Tip if u want to play again, play the inverted song of time. It will save you.
REQUIREMENTS FOR QUEST
-Access to Ikana Canyon
-Romani´s Mask
-Stone Mask
REWARDS FROM QUEST
-Kafei´s Mask (Day 1)
-Keaton´s Mask (Day 3)
-Couple´s Mask (night 3)
Don't forget that if you take the side route for it and don't go for the mailman's hat, you can get the bottle
i have get without romani mask xd
just got it without romanis mask lol
I always thought that, when Kafei retrieved the sun mask, it should have broken the Skull Kid’s spell and returned him to his adult form. Even in the credits, we don’t see him at all. Did he ever get changed back? It’s a little odd seeing them hug like that when he’s still a child.
Hmm, oh and hey, Kafei seems to be a Link equivilent kinda, like you could mod the game where you play as him. 🤔 Oh yes and um a, a Linkivilent if you will (Fahaha)
yeah he turns into an adult when u defeat Majora. The funny thing is they didnt put him in the end cutscene bc they didnt have time to make a new model.
@@hylianmango8272 seems likely. I just wished that could have somehow been confirmed in game.
@@TamptheChamp2
The manga did confirm that he changed back.
@@brettlarch8050 Cool. I never knew there was a manga based on Majora’s Mask. What’s it called?
The only sad thing from beating Sakon's lair is we don't get to see his face when we beat his traps and get the Sun's Mask back
Oh my God I am so glad I sub to you. I can finally achieve what I was trying to do as a child! Getting fierce deity link mask I literally quit the game when I was kid cuz I couldn't figure out after the water Temple. And I only had so many mask. Thank you for helping me.
I'm happy to help! This game is definitely on the more difficult side as far as Zelda games are concerned. It was actually the first game I bought a strategy guide for as a kid.
If you get the key, go to the room and look at the right wall (the one with a hole in the wallpaper) you can hear a conversation between Anju and her mother that gives more info about her character and choice, but I don't remember exactly when it's triggered.
I'm not positive on this, but if I recall correctly you can hear that conversation any time you're in that room. There aren't any special requirements besides being in the room.
Best sidequest ever in this game
Your channel is really useful!
Thank you! I'm glad you find it helpful!
Turns out that the milk you get gives you infinite magic. I’m guessing they expect you to face the final boss right after this, because my magic meter returns to normal if I reset to the first day.
The infinite magic lasts for the remaining time of the 3-day cycle. If you buy some from the Milk Bar on the 1st day then you won't run out of magic until you go back to the 1st day again.
@@EmptyGarbageCan That's 200 rupees. Although useful if I want infinite magic when doing a temple. I still have to do the Ikana stuff, I haven't stepped any further than the owl statue in Ikana.
@@kaizoisevil 200 rupees is no problem to get in this game. You can get that in just a few minutes in Clock Town.
You should've talked to some of the NPCs while waiting so we can see the dialogue. Nice guide otherwise tho.
+Anal fabrics That would have made the video more interesting, but I wanted to show only what was necessary to accomplish the goal of the video. I didn't want anyone to think it was necessary to view particular conversations when they are completely optional.
This side quest was the most favorite I enjoyed 👍🤩
“The worst part is you won’t even remember this tomorow” -Phil Connors
I'm curious... doing my first full playthrough of this game right now...
my question:
how does NOT having the stone mask affect this quest? :)
You'll have to be careful when Sakon is entering his hideout. With the Stone Mask Sakon can't see you, but without it you need to be hiding behind the rocks where Kafei is. If you look at where I stand in the video, without the Stone Mask Sakon will see you there so DO NOT stand there.
@@EmptyGarbageCan I did the entire side quest up to that point, went inside, realized “crap I should probably go outside so I can slow down time”, then the stone door closed behind me 😣
Kafei’s Anguish, indeed…
@@charlesg7926 Oof. For the record I think you can play the song inside the hideout.
17:12 Ughhh, im crying 😭 😭 😢 this game was the bestt
Can we use the inverted song of time during the last scene?
How do you go about this if you already got the postman’s hat? Does the game reset the quest so to speak? Like can I get the special delivery again and deliver it straight to his mother?
You're able to go through the sidequest every time you reset the 3-day cycle.
Oh damn, I actually had no idea you needed the Stone Mask for that part. Somehow I found a glitch where if you walk into the door crack, I think on the right side, you can clip through and end up in the hideout. I figured that definitely wasn't the intended way, but I guess I just always thought "fuck it, can't argue with results."
You don't need the Stone Mask. It's possible to hide behind the rocks without Sakon noticing you, but if you're not standing in the correct spot then he'll still see you. If you wear the Stone Mask then you can be standing in front of him and he won't notice you. Considering how annoying this sidequest is, it's best to just wear the Stone Mask and not risk it.
Also, for anyone interested, it is in fact the crack in the door on the right side that you can clip through to enter with the door closed.
I thought I go to the missing person with the mask equip but I guess I would run too If I saw a person with a mask that looked like me chased me.
After I did that, I went to the Astral Observatory and did the 4th day glitch.
I like ir videoes
I have a question: How on the first day do you get the reservation for the room? I've tried to stay in the kitchen until 11:30, but it seems I always get kicked out by 8:30. Am I just supposed to say "Yes" to Anju when she asks if I have the reservation, because I thought I did that once and she told me that all the rooms are already booked.
So there is more information in the description, but the basically you have 2 options. Option 1: Talk to Anju without wearing Kafei's mask after 2 & tell her you have a reservation (you can't get this reservation earlier otherwise you get the all booked up line). This will get you the key allowing you normal access in the Stock Pot Inn at night. Then talk to her with Kafei's mask on to set up the meeting in the kitchen. Option 2: Don't bother getting the room key and just talk to Anju with Kafei's mask. You'll get kicked out at night, but if you enter using the door on the 2nd floor that can be reached using the nearby Deku Flower outside then you can get into the Inn at night.
@@EmptyGarbageCan Oh, alright. I'm surprised that I never thought about using that Deku Flower before, but anyways, thanks for the info, I really appreciate it!
@@demetriuskafkoulas5005 No problem!
W-w-w-what! S-so you had to 🤦♂. Dangit, even after I had gotten the postman's hat, I just always gave the priority mail to the postman, but to actually beat the quest you (dang), had to give it yourself. Also 2 more things, how do you solve whatever trouble the Curiosity Shop man has on the second half of the final night?
What trouble are you talking about? Are you talking about buying the All-Night Mask from him on the Final Day?
@@EmptyGarbageCan Oh yes but nevermind, now I know that that is not part of the sidequest (and cannot be done in the same 3-day period since the time of stopping the bandit clashes with the time of Anju's meeting. I now know that you, yeah, need to have the even bigger wallet, stop the theif at that time at night, and get it on the, yeah never mind it doesn't matter now, also obviously a big glitch with youtube notifications, because yeah nevermind haha.
@@StoMoComedoPro I'm glad you were able to figure everything out!
This side quest made me decide if I ever have a son I’m naming him Kafei.
when i was 9 i used to think this quest was the hardest in the game
It is
Hey did you know you have to do it ALL OVER AGAIN if you let the moon fall??!?! Cuz I didn’t. The mask literally is removed from your inventory
You get a Game Over if the moon falls so you lose anything you've gotten since the last time you went back to the 1st day.
😂 damn.
@@juniorpedraza4805 damn is absolutely correct
@@EmptyGarbageCan I’ve been playing for 20 years and I was always too scared to let it fall enough to remember that fact lol 😂 I’ll remember now though
If you talk to the girl before will it not work?
I'm not sure which part you're talking about, but I'll assume you're wondering about talking to Anju before the Postman gives her the letter on the 1st Day. If that's the case then talking to Anju before is perfectly fine it's just you won't be able to get the key to the room anymore. What this means is you will not be allowed through the front door at night & so will have to use the door on the upper level reached by using the nearby Deku Flower in order to talk to Anju at night time.
How can you stay at 11 at there, when its 8pm she locks and you have to get out
So there are 2 options. The 1st option is you get a key to a room which results in you not getting kicked out. The 2nd option is to go through the 2nd floor door after the Stock Pot Inn closes. You can reach the 2nd floor door by using the Deku Flower near the front door.
@@EmptyGarbageCan ah ok thanks
@@mercenarynoob No problem!
So I realized I can’t go to Ikana Canyon now. I’m literally trying to do this side quest in the beginning of the game. Haven’t beaten any temples yet. I’m half way through this quest but looks i gotta wait to finish it now lol. You should have mentioned the type of equipment you’d need and how far you been to be to completely finish this quest. Good video nonetheless.
It never occurred to me that someone would be insane enough to try to tackle this sidequest as the very first thing in the game that they do. I added to the description that one needs to be able to access Ikana Canyon and have Romani's Mask to complete this.
@@EmptyGarbageCan I guess I’m insane then lol. When I go back in time, the black and yellow exclamation marks become grey. Would I be able to continue the quests as long as I meet those times during the days again?
@@IamTeddy100 You have to redo all of the greyed out stamps. The reason they are grey is to signal that they have not been completed in the current timeline. Once you complete them again you can continue to new parts of the sidequest.
When I go to the back of the curiosity shop at 1 PM, Kafei is still there and I can’t get the Keaton Mask. What’s the trigger for this? 🤔
Reading more comments, I think it’s because I rescued the old Lady from Sakon?
@@Stroyoo_03 That is correct. If Sakon doesn't steal the bag then he won't visit the Curiosity Shop and Kafei can't follow him.
I think he skipped the step where you gotta confront the guy stealing bombs and selling it at the shop.....its a key element
Nope. In fact I even mention in the description that you MUST NOT stop Sakon from stealing the bombs otherwise it ruins the sidequest and you'll need to start it over.
Can heal Kafei with Song of Healing?
No. You're not getting out of this sidequest that easily.
Ok how am I supposed to go from Kafeis hideout to ikana canyon without the bird statue
Go East from Clock Town. You'll need the Hookshot and Epona. Additionally, if you have never been there before then you'll also need the Garo's Mask.
@@EmptyGarbageCan you know what I’m gonna do this before I fight Majora
Random thought, if skull kid can only turn others into people he has cused. did kafei recevie the mask of link or a child who died?
So I’m standing outside the hideout at 6’oclock on the final day with Kafei beside me and Sakon literally isn’t showing up
I have done all the steps correctly, but Kafei just keeps telling me “I’ll wait… I’ve made a promise to Anju. He will show up.”
He literally never showed up, what happened?
Assuming you waited there until 7, were you hiding well/wearing the Stone Mask? If you weren't wearing the Stone Mask and weren't hiding well enough then you won't get in. I don't actually remember what happens if Sakon sees you, but he probably just turns around and runs away. Regardless of what exactly happens, if he spots you he will not open his hideout.
@@EmptyGarbageCan I did not see him even come towards me, and I was behind the rocks
@@AvertAT It's possible that you did miss something then. I doubt anything is glitched.
@@EmptyGarbageCan I’ll just redo it at this point
Extremely frustrating, since Kafei isn’t wearing a mask, and the guide I’m following says that means I’ve done everything correctly
@@AvertAT Technically that doesn't mean you've done everything correctly, just some things. However, off the top of my head you should have been able to get inside the Hideout if Kafei wasn't wearing a mask which is why I think you might have scared Sakon away. I don't remember off hand how close he has to get before he spots you. If you don't already have the Stone Mask then I highly recommend getting it first. There's no reason to risk this quest by not wearing that mask. Also, the reason I say him not wearing the Keaton Mask doesn't mean you've done everything is because it is possible for Kafei to get his Sun Mask back (and therefore for you to get into the Hideout), but for Anju to not be at the inn waiting for him because you failed to do something on her end (and therefore you will not get the Couple's Mask). Because of this you'll really want to make sure you've done everything that you need to.
When you finish Sakon's hideout, will there always be 6 hours left? No matter when you first enter the hideout???
Yes. If I recall correctly there is only a small window where you can enter the hideout before the door closes so there isn't a lot of variance in the time you enter anyway.
@@EmptyGarbageCan Gotcha. Thanks for the response. I'm playing the game on the Switch and just finished this side-quest to get the final 3 masks. All that's left now is to fight Majora. Before I do though, I am going to spend the 3-day cycles fighting the bosses and doing some side-quests over since everything gets undone when you play the Song of Time. My issue is that when I get to this quest, I will miss the cutscene where Link confronts Majora and he brings down the moon. No way around that I guess?
@@milestone380 You don't have to beat the bosses again or anything to fight Majora. You can just go straight to the Clock Tower on the night of the 3rd day. Nothing is different.
@@EmptyGarbageCan true, but it's just some weird thing I'm doing before I fight Majora. When you beat a regular boss, whatever misfortune that was plaguing the region disappears, but then it gets undone when you go back in time to the First Day. Before I fight Majora, I am going to fight the bosses again and do some sidequests so that everything stays fixed once I beat Majora (skipping the stray fairies though because I don't have the patience to find them all again)
@@milestone380 After reuniting the couple, just run to the clock tower to face the Skull Kid. You have enough time.

I waited to get all of the Heart Pieces until after I completed the 4 temples (not including the Heart Containers found at the ends of the temples which is why I have 6 hearts here and not 3). It was easier for me to do it that way when recording the walkthrough because by that late point in the game I would be capable of getting all of the Heart Pieces in an area without having to come back at a later time for more.
