Those are some of my favorites. I randomly got them in a collection a long time ago. They aren't worth that much but they are super cool and nostalgic.
@@dannil9878 the total increases too much for the price of the pulled card and then decreased with the next card. Nothing major (I did not check if that impacts the total towards the end) but I know that many content creators like that kind of feedback, specifically checking for it in the early comments.
The prices haven't had a chance to rise yet. We might discover a few staples from this set that will end up being worth more than their original evaluation.
I think the 'Clue style' set is a cool idea and really isn't a flop (set wise). I love the art, the style, and of course, the puns! The only thing that taints this set is the price. Collector boosters of this set isn't justified to keep the high price. The cards are low-mid in value and in "power level". While there are some fun cards and 2 to 3 bangers, but the $$$ doesn't justify.
yeah, I had the same experience opening new cappena collector on release, a couple lands and two ledger shredder made the box not a complete disaster. its kinda weird not all sets get a box topper
I opened a DMU Collectors Box when that set came out, even with a foil Sheoldred, the Apocalypse, a foil extended Plaza of Heroes, and a foil Leyline Binding and that box still is only worth $188.02 according to the TCGplayer app.
At least with opening a collectors box of a new set, you don't really run the risk of pulling cards you already own in your collection. So even if you dont have "resell value", you have a bunch of cool looking cards to use in games
Anyone else notice a serious quality difference in the cards between the prerelease packs and the play packs? The prerelease cards we got are thicker, darker ink, foils are shinier. Just better quality overall in the cards themselves. Is that a normal thing?? Just got back into mtg after like 15 ish years and the quality seems to be all over the place
It's always tough to gauge with pre-release prices. I feel like most of the standard set values takes a while to kick in as people figure out what is good in commander and older formats. I mean, there is just no way that Archdruid's Charm stays at 10 dollar, even as a rare.
I'm totally into how blase you are about your cards once they're opened I punched a hole in my mana crypt so I couldn't "cheat an extra one in" never change broski
Collectors Boosters are probably the worst for trying to open commons. Only like 9 cards are commons AND uncommons so you get way less shots at commons
Even fewer rare slot doesn't help. Those 2 spyglass treatment cards almost always common or uncommon. Also go play booster box for slimes. I got 9. And 3 in a prerelease kit
Quake Mole, nice pull. Foily too. Im a commander player and i feel pretty meh about this set overall. Not feeing the theme. Invisible ink cards are pretty cool but the gimmick-coolness of them will quickly wear off. When a common is a chase card in the set, things are messed up. still not getting me to buy anything other than singles.
this, I play commander almost exclusively as well. I might pick up the Deadly Disguise precon, just because I enjoy unique mechanics and its a cheap precon. Gimmick card treatments are fun, but should only be an afterthought of a set not the focus. I also find the whole murder mystery thing to be cringy.
Don’t want to ruin the excitement, but as someone who cracks packs for a shop before release, I can tell you that every collector box will have a hidden ink card. It shares a slot with serialized cards also. Only one per box though. As for what I think of this set…it’s VERY low value. If there was ever a ‘singles only’ set, this is it!
Actually felt like you opened some pretty good cards there, but that you lose money overall opening boxes seems the normal at least in the first days or month you open it. I got the black and white Virtue in my first display ever with eldraine plus foil anime Kindred discovery and the normal blood moon and bitterblossum from the enchanted tales and felt bad about it... I think there where more cards in the display but can't remember. Now both virtues are like 18 bucks in Germany 🤔
A thing that triggers me more that it should is how commons like slimes against humanity cost so much for being commons. Like what the hell they are not even strong it's just that I would love to build a deck full of those cards but I can't because a rat colony deck would cost me over 150 euros
Proxies IRL or Arena is what you want for these types of cards. I do agree they should be more affordable. Maybe they should appear two or three times as often as other cards (only in uncommon and common slots of course)
They gotta just make a "deck" that is just like 60 copies of the cards that you can have any number of. My dream is to eventually have a mono color deck for each color that is based around one of the cards from its color but the cost is gonna be painful.
Twenty years ago you could buy a dual land for less than the cost of a collectors box. Today, you can buy a dual land for less than a collectors box. $300 before tax for fallout / dr. Who etc.
After opening 3 play boxes it seem to be one per box from our experience. One was a foil. My son and I did get one our prerelease boxes but honestly seems they are really lacking for a "as many as you want in your deck" card
Random question that may not get answered. But since you put the video on youtube and i assume get at least some $ from it, does the box become a business write off for taxes?
Well BM only affects non basics but I think they both apply on the same layer so would be a time stamp then. But I'm not 100% if it's same layer I can't recall them all.
You aren't being overly harsh. The fact that this set was a 40% increase in cost, sometimes more, means having a bad opening is extra terrible. Both Ravnica Remastered and this set I haven't bought. WOTC may have killed the game for me. Just going to buy singles going forward.
Im pretty flippin sad about this set. Was very excited for it, and afrer two boxes. Its so damned underwhelming. Makes me wanna go run back to the LCIxalan.
I never pay full price for a box i trade in stuff not used from last set and play forward to the next set yeah this set atm is a risk but some cards did good in pre-release ..There are some sleepers in this set still to me not the worst set . You got a good price too for your box my LGS was $245 a box.
I pulled a full art foil nelly borca from a cllectors booster after buying the blame game precon so that was cool. Hopefully someone will have a leyline of the guildpact for trade.
This box reminded of the invocation era of amonkhet.... not only you had to get lucky to get an invocation, bu tyou had to get lucky to get one of the good ones.... maybe they got the point they are overdoing the special cards?
Honestly nothing against Seth and his content which I like very much but it is funny how the community complaints about power creep on one side but then also complaints about not opening 100+ dollars cards in a set. You either get one or the other but not both.
Yeah, there's an extremely narrow number of cards that won't provide your opponent with more value and/or upset the table. There are rare situations where you're against an archenemy and someone has the right creature in their graveyard, but 95%+ of the time, it's not going to have a good target. It's one of those cards where people only think about the upside without realizing how unrealistic that upside is. I'm gonna guess Tomer was pretty high on it. Edit: Podcast just dropped and Tomer gave the exact argument I expected from him lol. Richard gave my exact argument.
I'm actually curious, when it comes to opening videos what's the ideal length? I was thinking people wanted them shorter, but longer ones would more boxes could be a possibility too if that's what people want to watch.
"Opened the chase mythic, still lost money..." Has kinda just been the running theme for opening mtg product the past few years lol I just buy singles now
To me it feels like they are putting more and more focus on gimmicks like invis ink and crossover promotions and less focus on the game itself. This trend has me concerned about the future of MTG, especially when combined with how they are jacking up the prices. That said as long as game quality remains high I am all for new card treatments like the invisible ink because some of them come out absolutely beautiful.
"Getting wrecked" and "making our money back" don't really mean anything once you admit you got the box from CK, and you're just going to ship them the opened cards. 😝
im pretty sure its impossible to make your money's worth on a collectors box of this set. I even opened a foil field of the dead AND an invisible ink veinripper and lost money.

the etrata secret ink wasn’t a word, but many drawings of vampire teeth instead

Those are some of my favorites. I randomly got them in a collection a long time ago. They aren't worth that much but they are super cool and nostalgic.
Opening a collector box was your first mistake.
For this set for sure. RRM was much better value wise.
Yeah, Ravnica Remastered was pretty good!

ravnica remastered. or older sets that go on sale like dominaria united, or anything with sserialized cards

Seth, you're really good at these openings bro, super enjoyable to watch!
Pulled a Delney invisible ink yesterday. Really into that art style.

Funny how the "no MSRP" on boxes never leads to lackluster products selling for less than MSRP from the get go.
Everyone knows if you want to get slimed you have to say “I don’t know.”
This has the be one of the absolute worst "who done it?" murder mystery stories I've ever seen.
Excited for the cards tho!

It seems the Invis Ink treatment uses similar gloss film that the phyrexian gloss foils had. It has that super gloss to it.
I wonder if this will rub off the way Phyrexian stuff did?
God I can't wait to get that Etrata for my WUBRG Morph deck to make use of all the non-creature perms I morph/manifest from mine or others decks.

Casually brush’s past no more lies. Yeah definitely that card will cost way too much money.
Yep same here.
I opened Etrata and anzrag and some other stuff and it just wasn't enough. (A play booster box)

I really like this set. In limited. And some commander, but not like Ixalan or Wilds. I’m not sure how great it is for the 60 card formats.
Aren’t there less uncommon and common slots in the collectors boosters? That probably influences the hit rate on novelist and slime

Wizards is overdoing it with the campy-ness and meme-ing. I'd prefer a lighter touch
