    Wow! Blast from the past. THE ORIGINAL HANDYMAN. Really fantastic tool. Slim with so many great blades that I don't see anymore.. I did own one that I bought when I visited Switzerland in 1981. Had my name engraved on the handle in white letters. The saw blade was awesome. But damn I lost it. Wouldn't mind owning it again. A Mercedes Benz!

    Love you showing these! As a side note, the bail model Ranger also had the technicians screwdriver.

    The technician screwdriver is simply awesome. I made an engineer out of one. Real cool.

    WD-40 cleans out dirt and old gummed up slip joints because it's kind of a solvent and liquifies the old dirt and gummy oil and corrosion and then run it through hot water and it will clear out everything and then dry it out with a blow dryer on the low setting and then lube the knife with either Victorinox lube or what I prefer is KPL / Knife Pivot Lube brand. It's amazing how a knife can snap back like new no matter how dirty it was. Carburetor cleaner also breaks down the grime in pivots also but WD-40 is cheaper.

      Yeah I did that. It’s hard to get it all the way into the pivots where the brass has patina. Sometime it takes some time and elbow grease to get the stubborn ones going. I am going to try another trick I do as a last result. Work some polish into the joint and work it. It basically removes a bit of material to loosen everything up. Just have to be careful doing this and not go overboard and also make sure to clean it up really well and re-oil. I learned this from and old electrician to loosen up new lineman’s.

      @@swizzarmygrizz There is brass on Victorinox knives other than pins ?

    • @swizzarmygrizz
      @swizzarmygrizz  2 года назад

      Yes the brass pins that go through the tangs. When you take these apart the pins are green or black with corrosion.

    Great video thanks for the knowledge I just found one at an Amish antique store and got it for only 20 bucks and it's in really great shape for its age.

    Electric can openers are unreliable garbage. I don't even bother with them. I use a can opener quite a bit but, I won't lie, I prefer the Wenger/Leatherman style most but, the Vic ones work pretty good too.

    Did I notice the little bump behind the scissor pivot used to open split shot for fishing line? If so, then this is an oldrr scissor version.

      Not on this one and I have a bunch from that time period and have yet to come across those scissors. I think when I find a vintage Fisherman it will have that feature.

    Hi, I have a question today. Do you know if wenger made equivalent of vic ranger with an additional fish scaler layer?

    • @swizzarmygrizz
      @swizzarmygrizz  2 года назад +1

      I don’t know if one exactly like that. To have those tools you pretty much have to have another layer. Models like Monarch or Colonel are about the closest I know of.

      @@swizzarmygrizz thanks. I found one and sakwiki doesn’t know it. Started wondering if this is a mod or something

    • @swizzarmygrizz
      @swizzarmygrizz  2 года назад +1

      There’s a lot the SAKwiki doesn’t know, especially when it comes to Wenger. I have models that aren’t even mentioned there. Check out the catalogs and you may find it but it seems like something that should exist. Would basically be like the Victorinox Handyman from before 1986.
