    Hi Bethan,
When resizing any embroidery item on the machine, after resizing you go to the next screen and always touch on the recalculate tab as that will recalculate the stitch count to make the design look as good as possible after resizing. Assuming your bobbin tension is okay, loose top tension will cause bunching of the top thread underneath. Check my video on upper thread tension and clean the tension part I talk about that grips the thread. It can become waxed up and not work correctly.

    To Donna,
It sounds like possibly you have two separate issues. One is your module not detecting the large hoop. Because your module detects the medium hoop I am going to assume that your module is working okay.
There is a switch on the module arm that you can hear clicking when the hoop moves front to back in my video. There are triangular shaped ridges on the outside of the hoop just below the hoop latching mechanism. The point of these triangular shapes slide over the switch on the embroidery module arm when the hoop moves front to back and that is the clicking noise you hear in my video. If the hoop is not attached to the module correctly or the hoop needs adjustment it is possible that those triangular shaped ridges will go over top of the switch ( hoop not sitting flat against the top of the module) and module not be to detect if there is a hoop attached. The height of the hoop against the module can be adjusted by the loosening of two small torques head screws that you will find on the hoop outside area just below the latching mechanism. The hope should be adjusted so I just barely touches the top of the embroidery module when it is mounted. If the hoop is too high it will bounce up-and-down during embroidery and also that switch will not be able to detect what hoop is attached. Without actually seeing your machine this is just a guess as to what the problem might be.
Again without seeing a video or your machine in person it is hard for me to tell what your problem might be when you do intricate designs.
Experience does tell me that most people do not use the correct stabilizer or they do not use enough stabilizer when doing embroidery. Intricate designs require a lot of tightly packed stitches and those tightly packed stitches will suck in the material and create a puckered look. Not using the correct embroidery stabilizer will also cause the intricate part of the design to become distorted looking and again there is usually puckering of the material. I like sticky stabilizer or the use of stabilizer sprays to stick your material to the stabilizer this keeps the material from getting stretched out when it's put in the hoop.
My advice would be to attend a class at your local Bernina dealer on how to do embroidery. Even if you are experienced at doing embroidery you will always learn something new.

I went through a lot with the customer I made this and a few other videos for. Lots of testing and I even sent her a second machine to try. I was stumped as to why her machine worked perfectly for me and it did not for her. Long story short. She attached the free arm module spacer to the embroidery module then tried to embroider with a large and medium hoop. The free arm spacer is for use ONLY with the small hoop. If it's used with the medium and large hoop the alignment will be totally off and the hoop will crash into the embroidery foot.
Two months of going back-and-forth with her all because she used the free arm module extender piece when she wasn't supposed to. Ugh!!!

Can you help with my machine. I have a Bernina 200. It will only recognize the medium hoop. And it won't do intricate designs, only names. Any ideas???

Hi, I was wondering if you could help me. I have stated using the Bernina 730 for embroidering letters. I am having trouble with once I enlarge the letters or elongate the machine keep bunching up below the fabric and a sign about checking the hook keeps appearing. Iv'e watched your other video's and checked the hoop and the bobbin and everything is fine. I think it's because of the tension but, I'm not sure can you help me please. Thank you Bethan

Hi, I am hoping you can help me I was given a artista 200 as a gift recently, I use the cd to load the embroidery patterns but would really love to upgrade the firmware to a 730 so I could use a usb key to do this, I have read blogs where this has been done but (a) I can't find where to get the firmware and (b) how to do this. As I live in Ireland there is only one service dealer for Bernina whom I got in touch with, but he hasn't had any dealings with the artista 200, any advice or guidance you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Linda
