    The new law says that counties and cities MUST provide a designated place where the homeless can sleep, bathe, eat, and use the restroom and that place can not be on a bus bench, sidewalk, or under a bridge. Sounds like those who oppose the law would rather have the homeless be on the sidewalk, etc.,without those things.

But the homeless have chores and have to help out as well. They help them find housing and jobs. It’s sad but many of the ones that don’t utilize this just want to continue using drugs. Our mayor has banned panhandling at intersections bc so many accidents were occurring. I donate clothes also. We also have a tiny house village they are building for them.

    Where are the churches, synagogues, houses of worship and pastors? We NO longer have leaders at churches that would step up and work with city governments to be a bridge to the homeless and also work with non-profits. We did not have this problem in the 50s 60s, 70s, 80s, yes housing has become expensive and rent, but at those times as well - because the Church was involved. Some churches provides meals, but what about a shelter with assistance form the cities. A true partnership to help those that REALLY want to help themselves. As @777sweet has noted there are several categories of homeless and I agree.
    But is also the individual that is willing to MOVE out of this situation and note I can no longer live like this - I have seen many that JUST want to be VICTIMS and not get work, not get off the streets, ask for money, and some even have iPhones with a plan. It is NOT the government to solve your problems if for your to solve your own problems. Goverment is the last resort. There are some many resources in Florida I have seen them and use them for my elderly mother with no income and who is mentall ill. Some will refuse help and want to be homeless. I am not heartless for I know that other like the mental ill or the elderly might not be able to work and other accommodations need to be worked out. The problem can be solved if we work as a community but also the individual must say I need to put an effort to get out of this situation.

      I mean there was always homeless but it does seem a lot worse than what it used to be. I mean we probably haven't seen homelessness like this quite some time. I wouldn't really know exactly the statistics but it seems like it's worse than it's been in decades.

      In all fairness, many churches DO help in various ways in feeding, housing, outreach, vouchers, etc. as much as they can. They can only do what the congregation allows financially and helps plan for. Churches are just people. You and me. We don't need a church to help the homeless, and when greed is running rampant across our land, the churches are not exempt. Everyone looks for someone to blame, but it's the fault of business, industry, government, big and small landlords - everyone contributes to this. But even back in the day, there were homeless. There just were not as many. Get them big tents, and designate large areas for tent cities that are on a bus route to town. Have the tent cities serviced the same way we are serviced - with garbage/dumpster pickup, water sources, sanitation and safe food prep areas. People who have incomes can help pay their share, like rents. Just like campgrounds where campers pay to stay. I would like to see a "Homeless Sponsor Program" where individuals can be sponsored by anyone who wants to contribute monthly to their welfare. This money would go to the individual and some to the agency for needs. I would sponsor someone if there were such a program.

    I have worked in homelessness for 25 years - I am liberal whatever the heck that means these days but practical and wise after years of working with homeless and homeless agencies- cities and states have the right to clamp down on street living. Living homeless has become a bit of a normative choice for many and a reason to not go back to family for others. There needs to be something to make it more difficult to living on the streets for long periods of time. There continues to be help in almost all counties in Florida - save some rural areas . No fan of DeSantis, but there is no unlimited right to sleep on the streets. I wish the article would report on how many vacancies at current shelters and programs there are - since they are typically 80% full - some more than others. Anyone that wants to get off the street can. Even the very mentally ill ones - there are programs. It is a county by county issue. Homelessness has and always will exist - but it need not be this crazy. There is so much the people and media and experts don't understand about homelessness. Most "homeless" are housed in housing called "shelters" which are little different than SRO or cramped SRO (single room only) - they get a lot of services but there have little privacy, so to speak, that is the real federal definition of homeless - housed without privacy. Talk to anyone's grandparents or parents about privacy, they will laugh. Only the last two generations and too many women (sorry but true) think unless you have your own bathroom - you should be defined as homeless.

    What is insane about the U.S. government is that it’s so far in debt that every 100 days the interest payment on that debt is around 1.5 trillion. The government wants to enforce another 400 billion dollar in taxes in year 2025 will cause the official recession, higher unemployment, more evictions, poverty and homelessness. The government isn’t doing anything to fix the problems it’s responsible for.

    They can do what many states already do. Designate certain rest parking lots for overnight 8pm to 8am sleeping for those with cars that churches offer, set up case management tent city to help them set up care plan/progress etc away from oublic and helter skelter, set up separate program for families and singles. Theres options. Theres also cost effective appraoches. It does work.

How ever it isn't burden to them when they alway get special preferences as they all do when breaking actual laws now they get to sleep without being seen by people that need a place to sleep.

Because I see a lot of people that are devoting these people toiletries that they would need and And blankets including food but they can't Really give them much else Like a shelter Cities need to start building more shelters than houses Apartment buildings and businesses Because I believe that the homeless shelter need is greater than that.

    With estimates of around 40,000 homeless in Florida today, it is going to take up a lot of police, sheriffs and security guard's time to hustle the homeless from one place to the other. As they are moved, they will simply move to another spot. Without homeless camps, this a toothless mandate. People have to be somewhere. Either on public land or private land. Law enforcers aren't going to be combing the wooded areas looking for people living their lives in a tent. It's a waste of resources. If people aren't hurting anyone and trash and unsanitary issues are not the problem, what good does shooing them away do?

    • @underground9260
      @underground9260 3 месяца назад

      Basically, most of these towns and cities would be required to build more shelters, which means taxpayers will be responsible for it. Some of these towns can’t afford it unless they raise other taxes and I guarantee you some of these people here are gonna be pissed off about it. I’m not against us but if the governor once this, and what cities to comply in the state should pay for it!

    • @yellowbird5411
      @yellowbird5411 3 месяца назад +2

      @@underground9260 We are going to pay no matter how the pie is cut. If we ignore homelessness, the city will be moving them all over creation with no end, and the sanitation depts will be doing double duty, as they will be spread all over the city. At least in a controlled and confined area, sanitation can be regulated, along with transportation, food delivery, medical care and donations. These camps can be policed on the normal routes, and services of all kinds will be less challenged. When cities can return to normal without tourists afraid to go there, money will come back and businesses/jobs will return. When I can buy a house and know a homeless mess is not going to mushroom across the street, I will more likely buy a house there.

    • @underground9260
      @underground9260 3 месяца назад +1

      @@yellowbird5411 I actually left Florida because I couldn’t afford the housing and ended up moving to Michigan. Today I have a house, bought things that I couldn’t afford in Florida. I believe Florida is becoming a place just for the wealthy while the middle and lower middle class is shrinking rapidly. Because the state in the past few years has had the highest number of wealthy people moving to the state, which has really skyrocketed the housing and the cost of goods. California dealt with that back in the 70’s, and now Florida is too. Even here in Michigan, some of the groceries here are cheaper than they we’re in Florida. I do believe in the future there could be a lot of lower middle class families leaving the state in droves because their kids or new first time home buyers will no longer be able to afford to live in the state.

    • @yellowbird5411
      @yellowbird5411 3 месяца назад +1

      @@underground9260 It seems that wealth is very regional in the U.S. In my high-tourist area, rents are outrageous, and wages are really bad. I moved down here from Monticello N.Y. where I worked for four years, because I couldn't afford to buy a home. That was in 1990. I immediately bought a lot, and had a home built with good rates and mortgage. I got a good job, but took a $10,000 pay cut, with no Union, which I had belonged to up in NY. I have remained in Florida, but many people I know have had to leave due to rent hikes. But if you go inland into "Old Florida" areas, homes can be purchased for a LOT less. Jobs there might be an issue though. For retirees, it's ideal, because they don't need jobs necessarily, and they bring money down with them. Our highways are SO crowded, and there is constant road work, overpasses and "improvements" going in. Florida is turning into Dallas. Thanks for your reply.
