  • Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill Wednesday that prohibits counties from letting homeless people sleep or set up camps on public property. Counties would be able to create areas for homeless people to camp for year if they get approval from the state’s Department of Children and Families.

Where I’m at, they have places to stay and they chose not to, that should be illegal when you have the option to sleep not on private property. Every state should do this and you would watch homeless actually have to stay at shelters or get their lives together and this is coming from someone who literally knows dozens of homeless because I live in CA where it is everywhere but it is everywhere because of alcohol and drug use.

Good but I have a simple question. Is it cheaper to give these people a couple hundred bucks a month to allow them to rent a room, get some work clothes a bus pass etc.. than it is to provide everything for them in prison? If you give them nothing they will steal and go to prison where the state will not spend $2400 per year supporting them but around $40,000 a year supporting them. Just a little simple math for all the tyrants out there.
It is a sad day when you have to raise a financial benefit of helping a down and out American to get something done.

Homeless shouldn't be sleeping in front of businesses or public places preventing ppl from going into the business or walking the on the streets. Homeless shouldn't be allowed to poop and urinate in the streets. That's disgusting, unhygienic and fowl. I would venture to say most homeless are drug addicts who are that way because of their own choice. Normal residents and business owners shouldn't have to view their choice. When homelessness stops being profitable for NGOs and the federal government fires individuals in charge of solving the problem. Without homeless individuals can you imagine the job losses in the federal government? Why solve issues that keep them employed? Same goes for drug addiction, the border crisis and the Veterans administration....non profits and charity organizations make bank off the misery of American citizens. The federal government would rather promote war in Ukraine or the middle east.

At the end of the video, the reporter said that in that exact area, the homeless people right there were directed to a shelter just up the street. They weren't arrested, but sent to a resource that is better than sleeping on the concrete. It seems like the law has embedded within it the expectation that communities have adequate sheltering, water, and mental health opportunities. Law enforcement is going to be expected to direct people to those resources.
