He would improvise lyrics during his live performances. The band was amazing to be able to play with Jim in his state of mind.
Jim Morrison was quite a poet. A brilliant but troubled man. The Doors were one of a kind. Whiskey Bar, Crystal Ship, Light My Fire, and on and on.
I don't think he was as troubled as other geniuses. Was he depressed or suicidal or did the drugs and alcohol just catch up to him.

He was beyond those two state of minds that you just mentioned. Often great artists don't need the help of psychedelics to write great tracks. His death was presumably cause of the frustration towards who deny any harmony with the nature and those who wanted to ruin his oneness with the world.

It's hard to believe the Doors basically fit their whole music career into about 4 years... I was starting my Freshman year of high school in 1970 when Morrison died. From the time I was in 5th grade I knew the words to every song they did, because I had an older brother who played all their albums non-stop. I've known this song for over 50 years... and it's still freaking awesome.

IMHO, "The End" is the G.O.A.T. of the Doors discography. Don't lose sleep trying to decipher the song. Just let the sound of the words pour over you. They have a music of their own.

@@Nobody-br1rq they're probably in my top 3 classic rock bands. Them Zeppelin and maybe Pink Floyd. The Doors just had this raw quality nobody else could match though, they had so many intangibles. Miss them, and it's crazy to think their entire career happened in what like 4 years? Imagine if we had 4 decades of the Doors, how much good music they'd have put out....
@@Illumirage the doors are 1 for me, they came at a time of self discovery. Morrison Hotel is my favorite album of all time. I agree though it was all raw talent from everyone in the band.

@@Nobody-br1rq I never actually owned any of their albums, my dad kind of got me into them. I should check out some of their lesser known tracks, probably wouldn't hurt. Morrison Hotel, I'll look it up. I'm not sure what your situation is but if you grew up listening to these guys in the era they were playing, you probably had a real good time with it. I can imagine these guys were pretty big back then.

First one is trippy, you will go through different moods.
Second one is lots of solos, beautiful, sexy and energetic.
The double time beat towards the end..after Morrison sings about meeting him at the back of the blue bus..that beat? It’s been said that in ancient times that those rhythm patters would send shamans into a trance and that Morrison would often also go into a trance during that section of the song as well..when that double time beat starts..it’s on and I love it every time.
The Doors are incredible my dude. The End is one of my favorites but you should check out When the musics over, Peace frog or riders on the storm. In fact there are to many to list.

It amazes me this song was written at the same time The Beatles were writing songs like SGT Peppers and Yellow Submarine.
It really tells you how unique this song was at the time it came out.
Every time I hear this song, I'm reminded of the opening of Apocalypse Now, with the napalm being dropped in the trees.

I know your “where we goin?” was rhetorical, but in case your curious, the answer is Vietnam. “The blue bus is calling us” is a reference to the blue buses that would pick up draftees and take them to boot camp. This was released in 67’, probably when people were still being drafted left and right.
I had forgotten that fact. You are absolutely correct and I was wrong. The "Blue Bus" was indeed a reference to the induction center busses. Thanks for that piece and the correction.

1967 was a great year for music man. Jimmy Hendrix's first album, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, The Beatles - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Cream, Buffalo Springfield, Otis Redding, Traffic, the Four Tops, etc...
I rember those days never a full day of music . Great times .
Don't forget, The Grateful Dead came out with their first album, self-tilted. Not their best because they were still learning to be a band. But that got the rock-a-rolling....

My aunt spent years in the 60s in California she got a 45 min pirated copy of this song. When I was a teenager 25ish yrs ago i got it, i spent hours tripping it. My god you took me back. I wish I could remember some of those nights, lol.
Jim Morrison (singer) is a one of a kind. Nobody can duplicate what he did. He was in another world and his voice took us to his level.
