I am currently overweight but I am giving myself 3 months to get it done. Been eating clean, working out 5 days a week. Been Running, push ups sit ups and swimming.
how much u weight now?😂
I hope you can make it!
Dudes who said they would hit a drill Sargent have entered the chat
Man.......they crack me up. Like yea, ok go head punch a DS, see what happens. 😆
@H M okay tough guy.
@H M 😂😂 oh no I'm terrified😱
@H M Weird flex but okay 😂
@H M Don't worry I will. I'll make sure to look after my mental and physical health so I don't look like some keyboard clown on the internet 😂
If you don't like cleaning, mopping and buffing( you'll learn), you won't like military lol. For most part if you joined the military because you Wanted to and not as a last resort, then the military will be the best thing you ever experience in your life and you will love it. ( Depending on MOS, lol)
fr that's why I left
*Last resort by Papa roach intensifies* jk lol 🤣
I'll be leaving for BCT after I graduate college in a few months. I think that with the right mindset I can really make the most of my time in the military and gain a lot of great skills and behavioral habits. If it sucks, I'll embrace it and I'll be better for it. I think it all comes down to having/maintaining the right attitude.
Spent 8 years in two enlistments in the Army and probably did the whole mopping/buffing thing about as many times as I have fingers. You keep your personal area straight, make your bed and clean up after yourself and you'll be just fine. The myth of slaving on your hands and knees cleaning for all the years of your enlistment is greatly exaggerated. By the time you graduate your AIT, it is very much another job, with very cool benefits. And if you were smart and lucky and chose a good job specialty (MOS), the benefits start as soon as you graduate Basic and start AIT.
Just wanted to say that I just graduated basic training and became the first female from the state of Michigan to become an infantryman. On my way to airborne now and wanted to let you know your pt videos helped me a lot! Finished with a 287.
Damn.. congratulations
Girl power!!
How can someone be the first in the history of Michigan in 2018? Kinda baffled, even here with less population/less military we have 6 female infanteers in our platoon...(and we're in Canada) Find that really weird tbh.

Good video, but the music intro is always really loud
Shame on the Moon I’d prefer no intro
The intro is dope. Tennis Courts x Flume
I like the intro too, it just doesn't match the volume of his voice. Also the same with the outro...
Yeah he needs to tone down that intro.
Y’all act like you can’t double tap the damn video for 10 seconds over the intro and end the video once he stops talking.🤦🏽♂️. Sounds like a bunch of excuses to me.
Serving in the military is inherently selfless any selfish person will likely not make it

Like, I love the Army and I'm a pretty squared away guy, cause my dad is a marine. Lol. But like, I'm honestly joining to get paid and the benefits. I mean, call me what ya want but that's honestly my reasons.
Lol your not alone
Is it unreasonable to expect to serve 20 plus years as an infantryman? By that I mean, does an infantryman have a greater chance of being discharged (not dishonorably)?
Jimmy Jazz I think as long as you stay for you are fine, but I am not a professional. I think you if you are a guy, might meet a girl who wants to settle at some point and not have to constantly worry about you, but, I guess if you find the right girl for this situation it is not a big deal
Kind of unreasonable, you might not be able to meet the standards as you grow up, but then idk
Combat arms train harder than POG jobs physically, as you might imagine. It can be difficult to stay in good shape after that long and avoid any serious injuries that would force you to retire, but it's definitely possible, and although statistically rare, there's still a lot of men and women that have worn the uniform for that long.
Also, the max amount of time that people serve in the military before retiring is 20 years for the Army. Not sure about the other branches.
Been there. Done that. Would do it again. Fantastic advice, Matt. Very accurate.
I really love when military guys and gals have a RUclips channel and help civilians and or aspiring soldiers or marines
You really help me understand the military. I just hope I can make it through Navy bootcamp once i enlist in four more years.
Start working out now and you’ll be good to go.
Navy boot camp is child’s play compared to army and marines basic training on the physical level so you should be fine there.
Army and Marine basic is like having a bag of bricks ripped open above you, and being expected to catch the all. Navy boot Camp is like trying to drink from a firehose
well? you in yet?
It will especially be rough and a struggle if you are generally more introverted and anti-social as you'll be in situtations where you are heavily pressured to make friends and build bonds. This seems obvious as you need to be a team leader and communicate to each other but some people will go in wanting to be independent and solo lone wolfing their assignments but it won't work out like they prefer. It does get you out of your comfort zone and changes your personality a little bit and if you rather not be around people with your privacy out the window then the military will be a headache. Not to mention constant hazing if you arent much of a talker and keep to yourself. Being quiet is interpreted as a sign of disrespect even if that is not your intent.
Communicating is not the problem for some, it's the comprehension with one another that people struggle with. People think differently and people understand differently.
You can be introverted and antisocial. Not a problem.

Edit : made this comment only after you said the traits. As soon as you said “selfish” i was like “tomato tOmATö”
You for got a very important one. Someone that is very big on family and family time. My husband hates the army. He missed our daughters birth, 1st halloween, 1st birthday etc. He is always gone on some kind of training like the field or even ntc. He has missed out on so much and is counting the days for his contract to end. He knows many other soldiers that hate it for the same reason and just aren't making it.
If I was him I'd care more about 3-4th birthdays. That's when your little ball of flesh actually becomes conscious instead of having a 2 second memory
Army imo is for lone wolfs, and people that could have bin "drifters" or for people who live in poverty and use it as a last resort if first plan did not work
In my experience, people who tried to have families in the military aged quickly and died young. I've already outlived several of my sergeants and peers. Sorry, but I 've seen it happen too many times. Some people say if you are an introvert you will have a tough time in the military. My observation is that the exact opposite is true.
When you 'don't have your own time", freakin improvise man. If you get five minutes of your own time, take advantage of that five minutes.
@Reds Compose a haiku of your military experience thus far? Use a little imagination.
Remember making it in the Army also depends on what duty station, unit you go to and who your leadership is.
The Army is what you make it. Making it in the Army is knowing how to make the best of whatever situation you are in. Some people hated duty A. I loved duty A. The difference? State of mind and attitude. Making it is completely up to you, not your duty station and "the leadership."
Glad to hear I'm the exact opposite of everything on this list haha 😅
I talked to my recruiter earlier this week, he was a cool guy and explained it thoroughly. Been doing all I can to get in shape, i been watching a lot of your videos and they are really helpful.
I don’t really like not having my own time but if I believe in what I am doing then I consider it my time because I chose to do this

Hey Matt! I have a question. I never really practiced running the 2 mile but I just tried on a treadmill and I got 21 minutes and 30 seconds, I'm about 5'9" or less and 145 pounds, I wanna join before I'm 22 and I was wondering if you think I'll be able to train enough to get near 14 minutes in the next few years, thank you!
F 12767 alright I was like you and like you now trying to get back. practice running half mile sections then rest, catch your breathe as quick as you can. time yourself to the half mile time you want. then go up from there. a song isnt written at once. It's written and mastered verse by verse.
@@adolphsfuncampretreatforth4649 I'll try that, so I run a half mile then rest and do that until I reach 2 miles and then try to get better times as the days go? I'm gonna try this right now and I'll tell you the results, thank you
what I do/did run half mile before work then do regular pt after work. you don't want to push too hard at first. main thing with the two mile is endurance and speed. speed is built through short timed runs or 60-120s. endurance is built through non timed distance running. I ran pre military primary up hill to get the most out of that short timed run. when I went to bct and ran my first two mile it was a 15:10 which wasnt bad but my training helped.
@@adolphsfuncampretreatforth4649 I tried what you said and I got 4 minutes and 12 seconds for a half mile, that really helps haha I'll move up to a mile in a week or two but I'll keep practicing this, thank you and I also wanted to do 60-120s but its hard to go from Sprint to jog on a treadmill, also how long were you in the military? I have so many questions but I don't know who I can ask haha I would go to a recruiter but I'm not sure yet
awesome! glad it does!
Why would you enlist if you don't wanna deploy...
Been in the 82nd Airborne since august 2020. Lots of motivation from these videos; quit smoking, started running more, keeping a steady 200 lbs (73”, 24 yrs) got lucky being on the line with great leadership and a great squad (mortars, so 6 dudes) sit ups are easy, running is getting hugely better, push-ups still suck, barely squared away but getting better. This damn intro brings back some memories 😂
Anyone who cares about themselves even _as_ much as the group, let alone more than the group, is the bane of everyone else's existence. Especially in Basic where it's most common for everyone to be punished because of what one guy did, who got caught before anyone could stop him. Never mind how much that hurts unit cohesion and teamwork on deployment, where he'll probably get someone else hurt or killed. You _have_ to be able to make the well-being of the guy next to you a higher priority than your own, and it makes them more liable to do the same in return.
Where did you get that shirt man?
If your open to growth and development; it may be difficult at times but you will make it in the military

HRAP Can’t wait
Seeing this I now find myself at a cross roads. I want to join the military when I get older so badly, but I'm afraid of getting deployed because of the sheer fact that I could still lose my life even if I join the reserves. I'll still deploy if they want me to because that's what I would sign up for, but its just the nagging thought of death that haunts me. I don't know. I would just like some advice. What should I do?
A lot of MOS aren't combat related
Speaking for myself, I was never too crazy about field exercises. Didn't want a job that did a lot of field time. I managed fine. Not too much professional camping, but the day did come when I had to go to war. When that day came, I really didn't have a problem with it. I say if you want the experiences the military has to offer, for better or worse, sign. Better to do it and know that you tried, than to have not tried at all.
The greatest leaders are also the greatest followers. You are as strong as your weakest link. No greater feeling in the army as having the best squad, platoon, company, etc. A individual award is one tiny award an award for everyone success can add up to technically hundreds of awards in one because you’ve all prevailed. I remember when everyday was the best day of my life because I was one day closer to being the greatest version of myself.
Hi Matt... first of all... I want to say... THANKS A LOT... for all the time you take to make these videos, Most of the time when I had to talk to my recruiter, I knew what hi was about to tell me, because your videos... xD. Im going to BCT in 30 days!! To Fort Sill Oklahoma. My worry is... Im still learning the language, and sometimes, take me time to express my ideas. Im going as a E-4. If I will be in a leader position, I think it would be a problem. Any advice??
hugo sanchez first of all, I graduated from basic a little more than a month ago and I was at ft sill, and depending on the battery you get, you time there will be fun, or, like mine, really really boring. On the language thing, if you are fluent enough, like you can hold a conversation, then you’ll be absolutely fine. You’ll find that a lot of soldiers aren’t native speakers and many cadre members aren’t native either. Even if you’re joining as a specialist it won’t matter much in IET anyway. Hope this helps :)
DiddlySquat definitely it help me a lot, I’m very nervous, but I’m able to communicate and hold a conversation, I’m leaving in 30 days, I’m sorry to bother u with more question, do you mind?? How hard it’s the physical part, exercises, rock march... ???
Great. I'm the opposite of these things
I just can’t stand when we absolutely do nothing at all in the motor pool all day. Gets to me.
I've worked a non military job where there's always a pile of stuff to do and I'm perpetually behind, so i cant imagine having a job where there isnt always something to do. Even if I'm drop dead tired I'll still keep working at a fast a pace as I can. I'm always a little dumbfounded when I hear someone say they were at work all day but didnt do anything (whether our of laziness/avoiding work or because there wasnt anything for them to do). I worked with a lady for a short time and her last job paid her for over a week with almost nothing for her to do so she just sat around for about 7-8 hours each day. Pure madness.
@AndyRips sounds about right. You gotta get somewhere extra early just to wait on company/battalion level command to do their thing. “Hurry up and Wait”
I'm prior service from 06-10. Never trust and let your superiors to make career choices and looking out for the best of your interest for you. Be selfish about it.
Hey Matt. Just went through OML and got top soldier in my company, I think you should do a video about OMLs and how to get schools in the National Guard, because I was always curious before I got to my unit. Btw, I did a 2:14:20 20k for that

Well i like being by myself, i cant work well with others, and i cant deal with no more than 2 people. 😐
joining the navy but love the videos
I am going to be joining the military soon (gotta take my tests for the Navy, going the OCS route as I have a degree) and I gotta say I feel I picked a good time in my life as I've experienced a lot of personal growth and development over the past years. I'm the opposite of these things now, but they definitely described me in the past. Its important to work on yourself and grow to become a better person, makes life a lot better for you and those around you. Its not about where you started but about where you end up and what you accomplished along the way.
I'm currently planning to join the Army after High School, but I the only issue I have is my Anxiety Disorder and I want to know will someone with an anxiety disorder not make it in the Military?
People overthink the military. For me it was just another job, that was more than another job. It was a job that provided free room and board, and a type of education that cannot be found anywhere else. It also provided a home and experiences overseas in Asia and Europe. And when the order came down to put my life on line and serve in war, that in my mind was time for my payback. Gladly done.
Selfishness/Selflessness has nothing to do with succeeding in the military. When I joined I was 18, and being a typical 18-year-old, I only cared about two things: Myself, and getting myself laid.
If you want to succeed you have to be able to go into "soldier mode" and take and follow orders. You have to be able to throw that mental switch and do whatever that sergeant or officer tells you, no matter what kind of POS that person is.
If you can follow orders, you'll be just fine in the military. You don't have to be some kind of "patriot."
Can to talk about being an MP
crazydogames 1 what is all the rage about with 68W and 31B?
MP lol a lot of gate duty barely weekends off nobody really likes u plenty of hoah hoah

Can you explain what happens when the army goes to war.

Man thank you Matt for all the the videos. I appreciate it man.
You’re not talking about sexual harassment and/or rape in the military.
Always forget to turn down my audio on these old videos and get my ears blasted. Can’t even be mad lmao.
You should do a top 5 ways to tie and blouse your boots and show us how to do it so we have some options preferably all from different branches like this is the way the army does it and the air force does it like this
Leaving in 3 days... BCT 😯
Hey man, prior service, making the transition to reserves, and I've been trying to do my own research, unsuccessfully. But I was hoping you could give some insight on how often do reserve units typically deploy. If you haven't already. Thanks, mate!
Hate to say but you would never make the cut in the marines so you know
What you just described is a narcissists.
whats your job in the military?
My NCO who did 20 years was always self centered, always fucked me and the rest of our section over. The fact there are leaders who are like that is all the more reason to ETS.
The intro music always makes me think that what was just said was a roast.
joining the navy bit i enjoy the army vids lmao
You want to be absolutely sure you are the right type of person before you consider going into the military. Not everyone is cut out the same. We all don’t have the same abilities. It would be a nightmare for someone who does not have either the physical or mental ability to endure the rigors of military training. I am one of those people for example. There is such a thing as situations that can come up in in a person’s life that he cannot bear if any of you had any experience with that. I remember watching a RUclips video where someone in a near death experience where Jesus was showing him what it was like in hell and he was told he can only bear it for two minutes, no more. We all don’t have the same mental agility. You cannot expect a car engine to last too long if you overwork it. We all have limitations.
Dude your time is not your time. If they have strike ops or whatever recon or movement they will take your weekends.. I’ve been working word the past 10 days straight with no brakes till now we’re down... if y’all end up on any SFG you know this. Shoutout to 3th and 7th SFG

I find it sad that the US deploys so many part time soldiers… In my country part time soldiers never get forced to deploy they volunteer and I’m proud of that …And let’s not mention Stop-loss 🤦🏻♂️
This might be a dumb question. What happens if I have asthma?? Sorry for this dumb question I'm 13 and wanna join the military when older
I legit did everything to join was about to sign up and man I’m glad I didn’t I was about to join the army for 20k and benefits lmfao basically got the same benefits except housing lol 😂
If you don’t want to deploy then join the air force lol. Even when they do deploy it’s not the same as an army, navy or marines deployment.
Is it? How do they differ?
I have a friend whos a loadmaster and he moves constantly. In the last 3 years or so he's moved to New Jersey, Texas, one of the Carolina, back to Texas, and spent some time in Washington and California. He's been deployed to Djibouti and Germany. Those are just the places he's mentioned. I only know 2 people who've been in the Air Force though, I grew up near big army and navy bases. The army people I knew were deployed for months at a time and most of the navy guys i knew were deployed for longer.

Hi Matt, I know it's been a while since I've commented on one of your videos, but I wanted to chime in on your video of 'five types of people that won't make it in the Army.' You're absolutely correct on all of your five reasons. Motivation to stay in shape, taking orders, being a leader, getting deployed, etc.. Nice video Matt. I know I already said this, but keep up your good work and advice battle! Danielle

I have the deepest respect for soldiers and people who are in the army! Mostly, because I know that I would NEVER be a soldier. I am a really sensitive person and have a strong reaction to loud noises in general. And I have been informed that in basic training things can get very loud. Secondly, I have some serious psychosomatic problems, yes, call me a snowflake or a sensitive little baby. I know. I mean, my anxiety quickly progresses into stomach cramps and nausea. So, again, the willpower of a soldier, to look past one's problems and trauma will inspire me forever! Thank you, Matt!
Well lol I done signed my contract yesterday and I have hard motivation to stay in shape because I've had no one pushing me lol
The only thing which summarizes long term military career issues is three words, "Problems with authority". Selfishness and physical fitness are not main causes. However, one reality which is often unspoken once a person becomes the "person in charge" they will realize the military is not what seems to be. Hence, the "retirement cliff" at 20 years.
SO CUTE😄
Don’t look at it like it’s interrupting your free time, look at it like a job. Jobs take up free time too. But in my perspective, the military is quite a fine job. You don’t have to think. The people in charge do the thinking for you
I'm a bit worried, after watching the video and seeing your comment, it raises a couple of red flags for me.
thehotdogman93 What’s the worry? The military is designed that way. Don’t think. Just listen and you’ll be just fine
@@thehotdogman9317 Don't join the military if you don''t want to be a robot bossed around *all the time* until you reach at least the rank of e5, which is going to take around 3-5 years. Especially the army and I'm sure also the marines.
Maybe the air force might require you to have some ability to think for yourself which is why they require a much higher minimum ASVAB score than the army/marines. So the AF might be a better branch of choice, but if you really are scared then stay away from the army/marines.
@@macburger5026 I'm not afraid, I'm just concerned, since I like to think for myself.
@@macburger5026 There are jobs in the Army that require high ASVAB scores. Been there. Done it. Awesome. Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) is everything.

Article 92, not a great way to go.
Article 15
Hahaha no man Article 92 deals with the failure to follow orders or regulations and violation of orders/ regulations. Different situations are covered underArticle 92 as follows: violating general order or regulation, violating other written regulation or order, failure to obey lawful order and dereliction of duty.
Glad to be part that did
I'm that kind of person that is not very outgoing and talkative, but I'm aware of following orders and asking questions if I didn't understand something. Will that play a factor for me not joining? Yes I'm aware of presenting myself a good morning here and there but thats it I really don't role that much
I’ll be joint soon. I have no problem with taking orders and working hard it’s what I do. The reason I want to get out of my civilian restaurant industry job is because I deal with lazy slackers all day. I am not the most social person in the world but I have no problems socializing when I have to. I just don’t go constantly socialize with people. It’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make. Good luck
How can I join the military i am a Jamaican
Go to the recruiter. Knew a very cool Jamaican chick while in the military.
I see your Arete patch! I'm in the 49er battalion at the moment as well. I'm an MS2
Did you ever encounter the "Tackleberry" type in basic? (Tackleberry from police academy movies)
I wasnt in basic but I've know alot of Army guys like that. I've known 2 idiots who were in Strykers who would constantly kick doors down if they were locked. 1 of them had his landlord less then 5 minutes away and kicked his front door down when he locked his keys in rather then ask for the spare, then inexpertly rehung the door. The other guy I think was either discharged for it or nearly discharged after he got drunk and couldnt find his house in a neighborhood with identical houses so he kept opening doors and if they were locked he kicked them down. Both idiots were the "Delta Force wannabe" types.
Best moment so far in the army was seening a CSM ND at a m9 range
Another type of soldier that does not make it in the Army ?
The young soldier with color on his chest when the NCOs and Officers have none.
Saw some of that when I redeployed back to the states after Desert Storm.
I'ld say selfish is one type that isn't suited for military
But also any kind of philosopher/free-thinker types that want to know why they're getting the orders they're getting
Or you know, anyone that isn't a drone
adam furka Hey man we gotta get that GI bill somehow
I ship to basic July 31st
👍
Oh hey I have a chance to get into the army I'm none of those 5 things
Do people ever take advantage of their rank and go haywire attitude and disrespect lower ranking people? I can tolerate shutting my mouth but if someone talks to me like trash or does something, it's an eye for an eye.
Happens all the time some shitbird tries to pull there rank card .That's when i tell them if you want to get to stupid. ill go straight to the Inspector General. I'm prior service so i get allot of respect.
@@Texasmilitarydepartmentvid9654 thats what's up man. There's a difference between discipline from authority and disrespect.

I'm going in too take my Asvab for the 3 times the charm . I'll be going in E5 is what I'm seeing . exited all get it
How do you go in e5
@@no-yq7ns The only people I saw go from Basic to E-5 where Kuwait students studying in California back when Iraq invaded Kuwait in '90-'91. US Army needed Arabic translators so these students who were studying abroad in the States joined the Army and did about two weeks of very basic-Basic and were immediately promoted to E-5.
They were then assigned to Military Intelligence units and assisted interrogators (me) with interrogating Iraqi prisoners of war during Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
That was obviously a special situation. You don't just go straight to E-5 from basic by getting a good score on ASVAB. Hell, you can go to E-3 (private first class) if you have 30 college credits under your belt. That's about it.
Great video!
