Below is their message to me for your, and your subscribers, info. Cheers! Thank you for your interest. The headers and true dual exhaust systems can be found below. The longtube headers are offered in either a 1 3/4'' or 1 7/8'' primary tube diameter. Both are currently on backorder. Our true dual exhaust systems will be designed for the pickups. They can be used on the SUVs with some modification. The hanger locations will be different between the two, it will require modifying the hangers on our exhaust for use. You would be looking at needing the Extra/Crew cab version of the exhaust for the added length. The '99-'06 trucks have a rear crossmember for a driveline support bearing, so the connection pipes have a hump in them. Hey Steve, I'm leaning towards doing this to my Denali, one question I have is what did you do with the EGR tube to factory manifold which also goes to Upper Intake/Throttle?
I remember doing this on my old Iroc and it was a royal pain in the ass since starter, dipstick, steering column, HD cooling system for engine etc had to be removed to install the headers just for the Y pipe and headers to not line up and have to get custom exhaust done not to mention getting a custom dipstick. Hey man nice video. Quick question...everything you just did is it the same for a silverado or does some stuff change? I know the engines are identical I'm just not sure of the rest
Engine's ARE the same but you have better options for long tube headers. I think the pickups can get true dual exhaust. Check out www.speed-engineering.com and check. i would go true dual if i had the option, but on SUV's the gas tank is in the way
I just installed TSP headers on my 03 gmc sierra, and the driver header is rubbing against the steering shaft every time I turn left or right, do you know how to go about that? Will I need to bend the header a little bit?
Hey steve, I own a 1999 Silverado 5.3 4x4 and I just picked up some Speed Engineering 1-7/8 long tubes with the True Dual exhaust. I watched through your vids but I was reading the comments and gathering more info and saw how you would need to dent the 1-7/8 sized headers to make it work. Could you elaborate or clarify any issues I would have installing these on my truck? Thanks alot
I can't speak on behalf of the Silverados, however, on the SUVs, the driver's side comes VERY close to the front driveshaft even with the 1 3/4 version. Perhaps someone who has done this install on a Silverado might chime in..

Thanks for the videos! Gave me alot of insight for my headers. Few questions.. what mods do you have done to the engine? Seen how it looked very clean and painted like it's new or had some work done. Also, what spark plug wires do you use?
Good video series on the install. Helps me out as I am about to try it out. Did you need to get O2 extensions for the front O2s? Or was there enough room that they reached without needing extensions?
@Memo Flores - I think if you have a Silverado, you could go with a true dual exhaust which would be even better. Check out www.speed-engineering.com/. Good Luck!

Steve, greetings from the Low country 😉. Great videos, watched several times before I did headers on my Silverado. Did you have any issues with the trans cooler lines rubbing the passenger side at all? I'm gunna pull mine back off and have to "adjust" things as well as put heat tape on the lines & wrap my headers... anyways, just wondering how yours went & any issues for the other side. Thanks & Awesome videos
Tahoe Steve hey man been watching some of your videos and they’re a lot of help.. one question though. Have you ever had a problem fueling up ? I have a 05 Tahoe and I have a problem fueling up it’s seems to act like the tank is full and in some point if you leave it pumping alone it would stop fueling as if it was full and fuel would come out from where u pump .. if you can help with any advise towards that I really appreciate it
@@TahoeSteve they have gears too. I was thinking about doing 3.73 or better over the stock 3.42. Just don’t want to be humming going 70 since I go up to Missouri a couple times a year.
My factory 03 Silverado exhaust crosses over under my pan it’s a deep trans pan and I can’t get it off I had drop front of trans pan and reach in get old filter soak up fluid wipe magnet and put new gasket on and back together it was a pain I recommend Highly warping the cross over pipe so it don’t burn fluid
This is why you take a lot of pictures before. So you can reference where bolts go. I would’ve moved Tran lines a little bit. And I think you could’ve got it out without removing the crossmember
Locks in moisture and heat within the manifold and causes major oxidation issues, not the best idea really, it actually heats up the exhaust charge, which is not what ya want, more heat=more volume, which equals less flow potential
Hard to say because I put in a larger aftermarket trans cooler around the same time as the headers (running 2 trans coolers). I can tell you that (with all that) I never run hot, even in summer. Hope that helps.
Nice car with nice Michelin tire and beautiful spark plug wire. The next time you unplug your o2 sensor, think to clean it with and ultrasonic machine.
After watching this video I think I’m going to leave my manifolds on and just do catless duel exhaust because this is going to be more problems than it worth clearance issues all around
I had shorty headers on my 97 5.7 Z71 with Flowmaster mufflers and it sounded nice. People would say that they could hear the Flowmaster muffler but that it was more aggressive sounding than other trucks. The more aggressive part was from the shorty headers. I now have a 97 5.7 c1500 and I'm going to do the shorty headers again but this time I will remove the factory 2" exhaust and replace it with 2.5" all the way back with Borla straight through mufflers and a H pipe to eliminate as much restriction as possible. And I'm going to have it as a true duel, no 2 into 1 at any point. Stock engines get very little benefit from long tube headers so the extra cost, clearance issues and hassle of install isn't worth it.
Alex--------On my '88 GMC 4x4 pick-up, I used short tube headers by Edelbrock. I used Edelbrock because I live in Calif. and the E headers have the smog provision. All other headers don't have the smog requirement "air tubes" But, I used short headers with a "down pipe" on each side that goes into a "Y" pipe to the cat converter. A couple of header bolts were a bitch to get in. I also changed to one inch long bolts and not three quarter inch. The shorter bolts like to loosen up. I torque the one inch bolts real tight and they don't get loose. I bolt the headers into aluminum AFR cylinder heads. THere is plenty of clearance with the down pipes. THis was a great video.
Bryan - yeah - The factory exhaust manifolds are very well made and shorty's might get you an extra 5 hp. I'm lucky to live in a state with no emission inspections so the long tubes and ORY pipe made all the difference in the world. And it sounds like an angry beast (but not obnoxious). Thanks for watching!
biggest issue was that the crossover was right in front of the trans pan. since this video, I welded in some V bands so disassembly is much easier for access to the trans pan.
Finally installed the same long tube headers man went swell only thing was speed engineering has crapy clamp but other than that I like thanks for the vid man.
Hey I have a 02 Tahoe z71 trying to buy these headers off some guy. When you purchase them through tsp did they give you the option to choose if vehicle was 2wd or 4wd? The guy says he bought them and it didn't ask him to choose
Hunter - Your setup will be completely different. As a matter of fact, you have it better than us SUV guys because you should be able to go with a true dual exhaust (vs a y pipe). I recommend checking out some of the vids done by Silverado guys. Best of luck!
Anytime, man! Not sure what cab config you have but check this out: www.speed-engineering.com/shop-by-vehicle/1999-13-lsx-trucks/exhaust/true-dual-exhaust-kits.html
I ended up getting the driver side in from top was way easier slid right in after I removed steering wheel rod... mine was an 06 Silverado 1500 btw if this helps anybody.
So im thinking of buying this kit for my 2006 chevy silverado 1500 5.3 2wd my only question is did the check engine light come on for you since you deleted the catalytic convertor and if it did what did you do to get the light off ?
I also installed some to my truck as shown in the video ..... but in my truck after a few miles the check engine light went on ... and part smells like raw gasoline .... someone knows what I should do
Do you have custom mufflers? It sounded pretty loud even with the stock manifolds. I'm trying to get long tubes and a magnaflow duals on my 01 silverado but a few people tell me that I'll probably have issues passing emissions test and that it's not worth it to do headers?.. I plan on getting it all done right with tune and not getting any cheap parts but this has been a little bit of an issue for me.
I have a Flowmaster 50 Series Delta Flow (not too loud, not too quiet). But, and this is a big BUT - I live in a non emissions state so the fact that i did a cat delete is not an issue unless i get pulled by a cop in a really foul mood. In most states, this build (unless you have the cats somehow integrated) won't pass emissionsl. Having said that, my Tahoe has a Y pipe, I think your Silverado can be done as a true dual exhaust and you {might} have more length to add the cats back in. Perhaps another Silverado guy will chime in.......
want to learn some tricks with headers first thing with steel headers is they get hot and will burn up the starter so u need a mini. starter second tip cut the flange between the ports separate the ports so each one bolts on its own and tighten the header after it gets hot then u will not get leaks down the road and use a copper gasket and u should have came with new bolts with the headers and if u have to dent the headers it will not rob hp that has been proven on a dyno like on angle plug heads just so u can get the spark plugs in and out

My factory 03 Silverado exhaust crosses over under my pan it’s a deep trans pan and I can’t get it off I had drop front of trans pan and reach in get old filter soak up fluid wipe magnet and put new gasket on and back together it was a pain I recommend
Highly warping the cross over pipe so it don’t burn fluid
I added Vbands later, getting access to the trans pan now is easy.
GREAT VIDEO -- LS engines are awesome!!!
thanks!
Hell yeah good job, this is what I want on my Yukon
thank you so much
You've got a great wife! Any time a woman will assist w/ greasy stuff they get a big "atta girl."
she's pretty great. just had our 22nd anniversary and she has not killed me yet
i have a 5.3 2002 tahoe z71. is it possible to use these headers but with the cats on as well?
BassGuy24 you can buy a separate y pipe that has cats in them to fit the headers
This is why you take a lot of pictures before. So you can reference where bolts go. I would’ve moved Tran lines a little bit. And I think you could’ve got it out without removing the crossmember
Awesome video man really congrats.
thanks so much for watching!
Are you going sale the odd ones
Awesome setup, did you need 02 sensor extensions, Thanks!!!!
My only concern would be the headers heating up the transmission fluid lines
www.summitracing.com/parts/the-18051?seid=srese1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwweyFBhDvARIsAA67M703fiiY5uIff4fo8Vt0q6pMOc2AKpNFfULc6xnh_1srwjmAUQ8vlk8aAsP4EALw_wcB
did u have to reshape anything? im trying to install mine and the bolt pattern isnt lining up.
What kind of spark plug wires are you using? I'm running the stock ones but I don't like how its coming into contact with the headers.
Taylor. I added Thermo-Tec Heat Sleeves to protect the wires. hope this helps
Now you need a cherry bomb muffler I have an 05 silverodo factory exhaust I put a cherry bomb on it's crazy what a difference in sound
Should have wrapped them bro, keeps heat in for a colder intake (colder temp engine bay) and heat in. Colder in, hotter out = more HP
you're right. unfortunately for me, hindsight is 20/20
Locks in moisture and heat within the manifold and causes major oxidation issues, not the best idea really, it actually heats up the exhaust charge, which is not what ya want, more heat=more volume, which equals less flow potential
Any welds? Or do clamps do the job alone?
Dylannnnn1 Do welds I have the same headers on my Sierra. Clamps suck & let exhaust out definitely after a while.
Did this increase your transmission temp with the collector and y pipe being so close to the pan and cooler lines?
i was wondering the same thing
Hard to say because I put in a larger aftermarket trans cooler around the same time as the headers (running 2 trans coolers). I can tell you that (with all that) I never run hot, even in summer. Hope that helps.
Mine runs about 140° Idk if that is hot or hotter but it sounds like a reasonable number
Saw the orange block, knew it was a beast, had to sub.
thanks for watching
Steve's 5 C's I have a 2WD 2005 Tahoe, it should be slightly easier to do this install, right? As far as clearances.
Nice car with nice Michelin tire and beautiful spark plug wire.
The next time you unplug your o2 sensor, think to clean it with and ultrasonic machine.
good point, thanks
What 4L60E 4x4 transmission do you recommend for 400 hp on 2006 Chevy Tahoe 5.3L with high stall torque converter?
Everyone says to go 4L80 swap for more than 400 hp
After watching this video I think I’m going to leave my manifolds on and just do catless duel exhaust because this is going to be more problems than it worth clearance issues all around
It's a pain, but oh, so worth it.
No shop will do catless so be ready to do it yourself
Stock engines get very little benefit from long tube headers so the extra cost, clearance issues and hassle of install isn't worth it.
you should've just went with shorty headers. did u specify 4wheel drive?
Why?
AVT Marketing you did it right. No gain on shortys. I'm sure you knew that. ☺️
Rob Thanks for watching!
Did you ever figure out the fitment issues and have any issues rubbing was gonna do a set on my 02 tahoe 4wd
biggest issue was that the crossover was right in front of the trans pan. since this video, I welded in some V bands so disassembly is much easier for access to the trans pan.
Note to self remove stupid heat sheild
Did you need a tune up after installing these or no??
Sounds nice by the way!💯
Yes, you will need a tune after installing these
Did you need 02 sensor extensions?
Thanks
Finally installed the same long tube headers man went swell only thing was speed engineering has crapy clamp but other than that I like thanks for the vid man.
Glad to help!
Are those the speed engineering brand headers? If so how have they aged over time?
yes - normal discoloration but holding up great
Hey I have a 02 Tahoe z71 trying to buy these headers off some guy. When you purchase them through tsp did they give you the option to choose if vehicle was 2wd or 4wd? The guy says he bought them and it didn't ask him to choose
i don't recall a choice between 2wd and 4wd, just the size of the tubing
That could be for bends, for the transfer case.
What brand of headers are those you installed and cost?
i have a 05 5.3 silverado, would i have the same issues with clearence and stuff?
Hunter - Your setup will be completely different. As a matter of fact, you have it better than us SUV guys because you should be able to go with a true dual exhaust (vs a y pipe). I recommend checking out some of the vids done by Silverado guys. Best of luck!
AVT Marketing thanks man! thats actually the response i was hoping to hear
Anytime, man! Not sure what cab config you have but check this out: www.speed-engineering.com/shop-by-vehicle/1999-13-lsx-trucks/exhaust/true-dual-exhaust-kits.html
AVT Marketing ill check it.out! and its a single cab stepside
AVT Marketing hey, how hard was it to get the exhaust bolts out without snapping them?
How did you get the driver side in? From the bottom or top?
Bottom.
I ended up getting the driver side in from top was way easier slid right in after I removed steering wheel rod... mine was an 06 Silverado 1500 btw if this helps anybody.
what is the ground clearance with long tubes? any issues?
So im thinking of buying this kit for my 2006 chevy silverado 1500 5.3 2wd my only question is did the check engine light come on for you since you deleted the catalytic convertor and if it did what did you do to get the light off ?
You will want a different kit for your truck. Yes, check engine light will come on. I got a professional tune to delete it out.
I am not gay or anything... but the sound of that exhaust gets me going.
You don't have to be gay to enjoy the rumble of a lopey cam and open exhaust. It's all good.
Great video! Did it run like hell before the tune? Did you delete the EGR?
yes and yes.
How did u get the o2 sensors deleted
I also installed some to my truck as shown in the video ..... but in my truck after a few miles the check engine light went on ... and part smells like raw gasoline .... someone knows what I should do
Check engine light is expected. You need to get a tune.
which headers did you use?
Speed Engineering 1 3/4 headers
act do these headers and y pipe come with cat converters
Not that I am aware of. The pipes I installed (Speed Engineering) are meant to be ORY pipes
Where did you get the Y Pipe and is there a part number?
Did you need o2 extensions for the front o2s
Nope
Loved the video!
Did the drive shaft end up rubbing the pipe any
no
This is a compliment but you remind me of like a automobile bob ross
Thanks!?
We'll just put in a happy little header over here. Yeah that nice.😄
Gerardo Linares headers are diffinently worth it! I got kooks long tubes and borla touring exhaust and it's the best thing I've done to my 12 chevy
Gerardo Linares what state do you live in?
King-Almond I'm in Texas, Austin to be exact.
Gerardo Linares I'd check local emissions laws before buying headers. If you live in a state that has emission testing headers will make you fail.
just curious what was the torQue specs of the trans mount nuts and the crossmember bolts?
honestly don't remember. i got all torque specs from my Haynes directory
So to do a transmission service there is not enough room to remove the oil pan with the headers?
Don't service the transmission then!!! Duh!!!!
want to learn some tricks with headers first thing with steel headers is they get hot and will burn up the starter so u need a mini. starter second tip cut the flange between the ports separate the ports so each one bolts on its own and tighten the header after it gets hot then u will not get leaks down the road and use a copper gasket and u should have came with new bolts with the headers and if u have to dent the headers it will not rob hp that has been proven on a dyno like on angle plug heads just so u can get the spark plugs in and out
ps now u need to reset the computer for the new headers
U sound like batman lol. Good vid bro
I'm Batman! Thanks!
