This sheds some light on one of the major problems that developed in the 90s in Marvel Comics. You had to read EVERY title to follow what was going on as story-lines bounced from one to the next instead of playing out in one title. It's nice to have crossover and feel like they're building a real universe with continuity, but this became unsustainable as prices went up. When I quit collecting it was costing something like $200 a week to stay current with all Marvel and some DC titles.

Too true, when I was collecting in the early 2000s I tended to follow certain titles and found that the stories would often make large jumps for seemingly no reason. For that reason, I didn't buy Marvel comics. Instead I bought D.C. who tended to tell a character's story within a given title.
This character, much like Apocalypse was one that I felt has lots of potential but is never used correctly. Apocalypse in the 90's cartoon was always sold as a super formidable character but was easily defeated.
I totally agree but I think Apocalypse has been defeated so many times his character looks weak now. I think Sinister could do some cool stuff just because he's so smart
MotivatedResults Check out Gillen's run on Uncanny X-Men. He uses Mr Sinister there in a very fun and interesting way that I think does show off a lot more creative potential with a more stylish, unique Mr. Sinister as a purely consciousness-based entity capable of housing himself in any number of bodies. It's definitely a positive step for a more modern Mr. Sinister.
I'm really enjoying the 90s animated series, but yeah, Apocalypse isn't very compelling. Magneto, and even Juggernaut, are more interesting characters.
Mr Sinister is fascinated with the Summers family I mean all three men have awesome abilities that could possibly even destroy planets have powers related to the sun especially Vulcan the younger brother of Scott and Alex even though he hasn’t been much known or as popular as his two older brothers
@@tehjboney3291 I think it was established that Havok had more power than Vulcan, since he was able to absorb enough energy from a star to overpower his brother's energy manipulation, but I agree that both of them have really cool and powerful abilities.
Apocalypse was way more powerful than that in the comics he can give himself any power and is way more built and bigger than the version from X Men Apocalypse plus the only right accurate Horsemen is Archangel but even his story was right because he is a son of a billionaire not Angel being part of a fight club and living somewhere in a broken down building
Mr. Sinister is really underrated. You know who the best monsters are? They are the ones nobody hears about most of the time. Sinister is a brilliant immortal with surprising powers who pulls strings via plotting. I'd rather make an enemy of Hulk, Mr. Fantastic, Iron Man or any of the DC Justice League before making an enemy of Mr. Sinister. He's like the war profiteer who profits no matter who wins, just a question of how much.
His original body was destroyed during House of M, & now he's a race of clones that the real Sinister, who exists as an invisible shapeless entity, can enter the mind of & take over. Gotta say his clones have not been shown to have the healing factor & only one of them has shapeshifted a single time in the past 10 years.
Magneto tends to have short (2-4) story arcs, comes in full force and flexes at full strength. Mr Sinister may have a 6-8 part story arc, where you dont even know he's the villain until issue 3 or 4... and you find out events from the past 2 yrs... he's had his hand in, even though you never saw him. He's the king of LURKING
You know it's a shame Mr. Sinister won't be in X-men: Apocalypse. :/ He's such an awesome, dark villain with a twisted psyche. He's pretty much a mad scientist/master manipulator with super powers. SO much potential with him and a live action version would look so frightening (if done right!)
This made him sound so much more interesting than I recall from the comics back then in the 80's and 90's.I kinda stopped collecting comics around the time of some of those Cyclops and Marvel Girl series telling a backstory of him. I'll have to try and track down some of the later back story comics storylines. Thanks for your work.
With his near limitless powers of controlling his genetics and other powers, I'm so surprised he isn't a much larger threat in any of the comics. After seeing him get decapitated in Secret Wars by Captain Britain and still winning the duel, he became one of my all time favorites.
Sinister was so awesome to me when I realized what he was capable of...he's so manipulative and cunning and one of the most mysterious characters in Marvel...great video.
Sinister is one of my favorite x-men villains, but I do agree he has not been used well over the years. He is always most effective in the background acting like the puppet master rather than the soldier battling everyone. I don't think Sinister is weak, but I do think that even now he approaches things line a scientist, with planning and patience and does not have a warriors mentality.
jtjr26 I agree. As I was reading your comment however it showed him in this video EFFORTLESSLY holding SABRETOOTH at bay one handed by the throat. Hmph (Scratching head). Not a warrior but damn, that's SABRETOOTH.
jtjr26 at 3:09, looking at that shit I'm kinda glad he aint got a warrior's mentality along with that demented intellect. Then he'd be damn near unstoppable. Man, you know what? I'm going to shut up before they decide to write him like that.

Even though Mr Sinister is definitely a background character he is still one of my favorite villains. Not sure if it’s his design or backstory, he’s just awesome Btw I wouldn’t mind seeing him in a movie too, live action or animated, however I don’t think he would be good as a main villain. I mean, to be used effectively he would have to remain a background character, only show up once or twice, and strictly be used as a plot device. Which seems bad but sometimes that’s the best role for some characters.
Mr. Sinister's origin story, like many others, varies between formats and comic generations. In the 90s cartoon he was a self-made mutant who was once human. Nothing to do with Apocalypse.

Wait i'm confused here, so he wanted to create a mutant (Cable) to take out apocalypse, why? I mean if it wasn't for apocalypse he wouldn't have become Mr. Sinister in the first place, so whats the deal here?
+Hal Likely to get out of being 'bound' to Apocalypse. After Apocalypse made him immortal so he could keep researching, Sinister really had no need for Apocalypse, who basically owned him.
+Collin Shorette Sinister's motives are kinda stupid if you think about it. I mean, the guy spends decades trying to find the right mutants that can breed Cable, he finally finds the right couple, stalks the shit outta Jean and Cyclops throughout their whole lives and goes through a lot of other shit.
Hal Not sure what his motives had to do with the question, but yes. :p His motives are kinda stupid, in the long run. At least, his more common motives have been stupid. His initial inception and motives were a lot more interesting (Trying to figure out the next step in human evolution, aka mutants) but what he really intended to do with that information is still not fleshed out. He's more or less become a whipping boy for other villains, and not even that good of a whipping boy at that. They really need him to get out from under Apocalypse and have him come up with some actual, devious plan with his vast knowledge and abilities.
It was a great video... I very much enjoyed it and diving so much into Sinister's background and existence... Thank you... probably why he has always been one of my favorite villains is because I have always loved Jean and Scott....Phoenix & Cyclops are my favorite super heroes, so it only makes sense i have the opposite end of the spectrum too.... the only significant thing that you could argue happened to sinister since his "glory days" in the 80's and 90's is that, assuming you consider the Deadpool game to be cannon (which I realise is highly unlikely to be the case), then he was killed by deadpool (via the use of a sentinel's boot) while trying to create a clone army

• then allied continued his work, eventually coming up to Weapon X program
However,
• Weapon 1 was an experiment creating Captain America

• which was before liberation of Germany by Allies
So it may be that
• Allies had their experiments apart from Mr. Sinister's

• then eventually formed Weapon 10 (Weapon X)

I really like how you state facts and not trying to make your opinion seem like facts great job on all your vids keep it up Rob
Sinister is one of my favorite Marvel characters, but can you do you a origin story of Tombstone, Ghost Rider and Omega Red.
I'd like to see someone do some Exodus fully explained. Seems like he has been both a primary villain and a secondary puppet.
which issues of mister sinister you recommand reading?and great work fantastic video!!!
the only significant thing that you could argue happened to sinister since his "glory days" in the 80's and 90's is that, assuming you consider the Deadpool game to be cannon (which I realise is highly unlikely to be the case), then he was killed by deadpool (via the use of a sentinel's boot) while trying to create a clone army
Very cool use of cover art and panels in your synopsis. I am eager to check out what else you have to offer.
The quality of this video is amazing!
I came here as a refresher given everything happening in X-Men ‘97 and I really miss this intro
