Also known as Supersonic Seattle and The Year Of The Dragon.
Review:
62,000 Led Zeppelin Fans Jam Kingdome
They came at night by the thousands, some waiting for two days in the rain and cold for a chance to have their ears assaulted and nerves numbed and to say they saw Led Zeppelin. It was a night of pot, pills and popcorn with the popcorn coming in a close third to the other two. But overall, the Led Zeppelin concert at the Kingdome came off without too much trouble. There were several arrests, lots of dope and booze smuggled in - either under coats or inside bodies - and some very sick kids from drinking too much. “It's not a bad bunch considering the number of people here”, one Seattle police officer said of the 62,000 people, “and considering the reputation of the group.” Led Zeppelin has earned a reputation for attracting surly crowds which generally fight and riot. But the most damage was to the ears and there is a possibility 62,000 people will spend today saying, “Huh?” What attracted these people, generally hard-core rock fans, was the experience.
It was appreciated by some when the lead singer, Robert Plant, told the crowd he was deaf in one ear. It was a miracle the whole band wasn’t stone deaf. Later, Plant said his hearing came back during one number. The concert started shortly after 8 p.m. amid fireworks and people holding up lighted matches, the moment everybody had been waiting for. Throughout the long Sunday, the huge crowd remained orderly as it waited to get through the gates and have the experience. At 4:30 yesterday afternoon, the 20,000 or so Zeppelin fans waiting at the Kingdome started to chant, “We want in, we want in.” Suddenly a movement rippled through the crowd like a wave pushing the front-line troops into the fence. Plant promised that the 1977 tour would be “blood, thunder and the hammer of the gods”. A squad of paramedics was geared up for the blood and everybody else was geared up for the thunder and hammer part.
even with his stuggles with drugs.. jimmy page truly has a ear for the bells of heaven...
Totally agree - But after reading allot about the 75-80 period it sounds like the drugs hampered his songwriting output. Allot of comments from him about "sitting and waiting for something to come through". That is usually attributed to heroin since it deadens feelings.
Hunter Andrus Drugs and several serious hand injuries hampered him a lot
@@gsoltis29 it's a lot, two words, and I've heard heroin exacerbates creativity
@@christopherone1 it's does until you care more about getting your next fix than writing music. I know first hand unfortunately. 16 years away from drugs gives me some perspective thank cripes.
Even as inebriated as jimmy obviously was here, that solo is beautiful.
Solo yes. But the rest of his playing on this song is so random and messed up.
Tough times for him indeed.
I count four extra solos after the solo haha
@@saleconomos473 you probably hear the b bender it’s the guitar he has so he can bend the chords gives that swing to the song
You might need to listen again, Jimmy Page plays it pretty well, this is how the song goes. Inebriated? I wish anyone could play like this. You are dead wrong in your analysis Long live the greatest guitarist/composer of the twentieth century.
The song was played well. The sound was off a bit. The whole band was off a bit there at the end.
Page was 2 years into H addiction here.
Page is the GOAT guitarist factoring in songwriting, producing, memorable riffs, when he’s on he’s the best.
In my opinion you’re all correct.
I was at the concert! Spectacular performance ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Me too - I will never forget!
really? The sound must have ben better live than this recording. Saw Zeppelin NY '77 my ears are still ringing.
It says a lot about how much the band loved this song that John Paul Jones spent a considerable amount to have a completely custom instrument constructed just so that he could perform it for a live audience.
How I love that riff and solo!! Pure art. This song is much above Stairway. True masterpiece. Jimmy's incredible on guitar even if full of heroine, perfect sound. And let's not forget JPJ with the triple neck and bass together. Without him it wouldn't be the same thing ❤
It’s quite a song- no doubt
♥️🥇☮️😸
Johm Bonham top 3 drummers of all time
Was front and center at this show :)
John Allen So what did you think of the concert? I saw them a few days later in Bay Area. Best show I ever saw..
@@amorodioamor4388 my dad went to the Saturday show and said Page sucked and was smacked out, did you notice any short comings? I’ve heard this song from Oakland and page is so out of it
Niiiice
I count an extra 4 solos Jimmy went off on, he was feeling it
Still the GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME. GREAT SOUND BEND THOSE NOTES JIMMY
JPJ is the man! His playing on this song and No Quarter is stellar!
JPJ rules!
perfection in 2024
Jonesy on the triple neck PLUS bass pedals! He REALLY WAS the silent assassin..
I’ve seen the Knebworth version, but not this one! Pleasant surprise. This stuff from 77 -along with the missing Knebworth footage - should be professionally cleaned up and released on dvd..
Jimmy: I got a double neck
JPJ: hold my beer
😂😂
😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
The B bender tele is so perfect here. Jimmy always had that pedal steel vibe.
Always loved how Jimmy worked that B-Bender into this tune Live.
Heroine soaked still God - Page! Listen it is Smacked out immaculate!
100% agree!
One of the few times seeing Jimmy play a Tele in the later years of the band.
JP125 b bender tele
He also used the tele at Hot Dog, you can see at the kmebworth concerts
Funny to read about the folks trying to put this performance down. It makes me wonder if a, they have ever really heard this song off the record, and, b, if they have ever heard live music before, especially Led Zeppelin. Long live Led Zeppelin and Jimmy Page, the greatest guitarist/composer of the 20th century.
As a teen I used to listen to music to relax before I went to bed. By far this one always was a favorite and it always got me where I needed to be . Just got to love the images this song and the words puts forth. I put it right there with reading a good novel.
Reminds me of the calm wee hours of the morning, at a friend's after partying all night when everyone is just relaxing and falling asleep. Zeppelin playing on his amazing stereo system all night. I miss those days. Golden memories of simpler times.
I was there. Music to my ears.
Still my favorite all-time song after all these years. Genius from the greatest band ever
They left a deep mark on planet Earth.
And the Milky Way
One of my favorite songs from Physical Graffiti... This song has so much heart and soul! 😅
Who dat beautiful brunette 🎉🎉 JP is such a sight for sore eyes I'm just so in love with all 4 of them everything they stood for
Zeppelin has a romance to it
I was privileged enough to see the 77’ tour in Chicago, I was a junior in HS, Sadly this would be their last tour as a band in the U.S, Master James had his moments during tour of the states, some not so good,They all did, But still... Best RockBand Ever!
That's amazing you had the privilege to experience Led Zeppelin live!!! The first leg of the 77 tour wasn't the greatest but still rocked! The fans were always on their feet, because it was LED ZEPPELIN!!!! It could've a complete train wreck and the fans still would've been screaming! 🤘🤘🎸🎸🎵🎶🎼
GODs... - No matter what I say or hear LZ cannot do wrong - they are the foundational change for R&R as a teenager in the 70's to own up to when you liked or strove to be a Rocker. they singled out the BS and produced/Played. Genuinely placed in a period to be reconciled to the rest of times music. This Song particularly is devastating on Record or Storage. Classically charged infused in Blues solidified in Rock-n-Roll. Nothing, until memory like being a teenager, really in anytime period but this time period was one for the millennial/century most of us just came through.
I was there.
Love this take on one of their best songs.
Opening riffs: sounds like Mr. Page had a string bender on his Tele (?) . It's the tone of some of those of those bends combined with his neck pull downs. Great!
A surprise for me after so many years to listen to this song fresh as written and sing right now. Great, wonderful Led Zeppelin that will remain long time trough the best musicians all over the world.
Love this masterpiece
Robert is having rough night here. This was the first gig back from a few wks vacation. The last gig being 27.6.77 at the Forum. Robert has been quoted saying that he was “uncomfortable with the group” in ‘77 and I’d have to agree with him. They had no choice but to go forward all the while as prisoners of their closed door, drug addled empire. You can sometimes feel the tension during this ‘77 tour. They’ve gone down a dark path (some members more than others) and it’s safe to say that this made for an uncomfortable setting. Something was bound to grind it all to a halt. Unfortunately Robert’s young son’s illness and passing that did it. It’s just so ironic, the story of it. They just got bigger and bigger and then BOOM; just like that it was all but over. So very sad.
One thing I always wonder about is what Zeppelin would have sounded like if they had continued into the 1980s. Page and Bonzo talked about how they wanted the follow-up to In Through The Out Door to be more guitar-driven and heavier, but what would that have been like.
I love Zeppelin, but I just can't imagine what they would have been like in the 1980s.
Agree. I think even they were questioning how it’d have panned out. If not Robert first, I think Bonzo would’ve walked from LZ - to take up with his dad and brother to continue w the family building trade biz they had. I honestly feel that Bonzo had had enough by 1980.
…imagine though, a clean and sober Zeppelin launching into Kashmir in say, 1988…and causing all sorts of trouble for the hair metal bands of the era!?
The '77 tour was garbage. I jumped through flaming hoops to get tickets at the Miami Orange Bowl, lived through a full-blown riot there, drove across the state to Tampa for the concert, they played four songs (sloppy as heck), a black cloud came over Tampa Stadium. monsoon ensured; Plant announced to the crowd they had equipment getting wet and would break until the weather cleared, the weather cleared and no Zep. The jerks had left the stadium with no plans to return. Tens of thousands of fans left holding their ticket stubs with no concert. Then I got to live through riot #2 for the same bloody concert. Zep "officially" cancelled that evening.
Jaw dropping!
👏👏😲🦾
Led Zeppelin definitely put on an inspired performance for this Seattle crowd. Their needs to be some kind of documentary displaying how many British Bands loved performing in the Pacific Northwest region and specifically the Seattle Puget Sound area. The Beatles told stories back to their mates in England about staying at a place up there called the edgewater inn where you could fish from your room. And when Led Zeppelin started their first tours of America they found out about this place and basically every time they returned to the states they couldn't wait to return to Seattle probably their favorite place to perform in the United States other then Los Angeles.
You might think that if it was the only show you'd heard from '77.
@@zosothezephead837 Seattle is certainly not among the best nights of '77 in terms of performance, but the fact remains that it was a location they cared about very much, just look at the shows of: '72 (two dancing days, never happened in other recorded shows that repeated a song ), '73, and above all '75 (in particular that of March 21) where they performed unique performances in their repertoire and the overall duration of the show was always well above average...
I went to this concert and it was only $10, it was crazy. I wish they had been in better form for this show but hey...drugs and alcohol and constant touring take their toll eventually. I was just glad to finally see them!
I was there.....
Oohhhh listen to that innocent voice he gives me such inspiration...just a different place completely a different time I was there i saw you
Everything Jimmy did on stage is legendary.
Robert and his “plantations” between songs.
The more I see this creature I completely understand the fuss, but he was just so innocent oh yes she remembers 🎉
I wish JP JPJ and RP would tour one final time. It's more than likely never going to happen and all we'll have left is vinyl and videos like this. Really sucks that it couldn't have been worked out. But what an era it was........
Favorite Zeppy song of all time. Wished they played Out on the tiles and Rover more live, love to see those vids

RIP Bonzo🎵🕊🎵🥁
I lived in Bellevue at the time, Crossroads i believe. Both of my brother's drove my beat pos lowrider (broken springs 😆) Ford Galaxy down to a swelling crowd at the Kingdome that sunny day in Seattle to hear the mighty Led Zeppelin. My little brother was so stoned after hanging out with buds he got passed above the crowd outside to the front of the line on a chase lounge, but just when we thought we'd never see him again.. he was passed back to us, by more of the same hands that passed him up. When he was dropped off with us, I asked him. "wtf.. why the hell didn't you stay at the front of the line?" He said, "I forgot my ticket." 🤪😅🤣
Awesome story! I love hearing stuff like this! That is so awesome that you were there! So cool man! And I don't care what anyone says, this show is great. It's just the dull and flat soundboard recording that takes away from the show. One day I may try to remaster it
Hey!@@LongLiveLedZeppelin Thanks for your response. It is really about the memories and how it takes me back to that time. Sound of course is a primary objective itself,, for ones that were fortunate enough to see them, but especially for those that haven't seen them personally.
Off the top, I think 'Led Zeppelin Rarities' did the whole '77 concert. (btw, I saw the 1975 Zeppelin concert at the Seattle Collesium, too)
Whatever you did, I see past any audible mistakes you are hearing.. I don't hear a single one! 😉 Nicely done.. from all of us.. to you, Sir. Thank you!
@@iNSANEcOOkieMONstEr yeah man thank you! I wish I was alive back then to have seen them live.
Hey what date Seattle 75? The 21st? God if you were at the 21st omg that's awesome. That is one of my favorite shows ever! The 17th isn't as good but still great. But that 21st March show is soooo killer. If you haven't been to my site go check it out. Longliveledzeppelin.blogspot.com
@@LongLiveLedZeppelin I'd have to check again on LedZeppelin.com ..my story is there as to how we got in.. My friend Randy and , coming from Bothell, didn't have tickets.. but somehow we knew we would get in...and we did... through broken glass! I think tickets were $7.50.. something crazy like that. But they were sold out in less than a half hour the day before.
There is so much I could say, but more than anything They were 100 times better, drunk or not.. in person! I wish you could have been there too, mate.. but live through as I do.. check my page. my Led Zeppelin list is huge and ever-growing! @@LongLiveLedZeppelin I did check LZ[.]com for an article on the 21st by D.P. Bond titled 'Led Zeppelin Show Has a Lot of Air' that corroborates with my story of broken plate glass doors being broken. Although I entered my story for the 17th, there is no way I would have been allowed to go on a Monday. My Father would have killed me... The 21st was a Friday.. my story lines up..that WAS the concert I was at. I'll email LZ to see if they can place my story on that correct date... they're pretty cool about proper order.
I can still see broken glass floating like I was stuck in a time warp.
True Rock Gods raw gorgeous flawed soulful perfection

This was the best live performance from Ten Years Gone ! I love the Last part from the song , "Ten Years Gone, holdin on , ten years gone"
You think this version is good? Have you ever heard the one from the LA Forum on 6.21.77? If not, I highly recommend it! Robert is in much better voice and the whole band is on fire?

I like this one from Landover
I was at that concert. I was stationed in Bremerton Naval base. What great memories. Bless the USS Ranger
Questa è una delle più belle canzoni degli Zeppelin 👋👋 con un inebriante assolo anche se Jimmy era già sotto eroina. Che rabbia 😠 un uomo così bello e talentuoso rovinarsi così.

Robert Plant is fire!
Led Zeppelin ao vivo é sempre bom, ainda mais esse som dessa bateria e a pegada de Bonham
Saw them 6Apr77’at Old Chicago Stadium, Jimmy was lil juiced but great show, Next night, which was Thursday he had his now famous stormtrooper hat and jack boots on.
I also saw them at one of those Chicago shows in spring 1977. My seats were back corner so not great. But when tickets went on sale for additional Chicago dates for later in 1977 I got eight row center. But after Robert Plants son died the remaining dates were canceled including the Chicago dates.
Just lovely and AMAZING!!!

I knew Jimmy played a tele but this is the first time I have seen it in concert
JIMI IXTLAN look up some of the early footage from 1969. He used a tele exclusively then
This is a B - Bender Tele, very different from a standard Tele. Look it up!
🥰F##king GREAT. Thanks
I love when Jimmy has a cigarette in his lips and gets lost in the groove.
Sounds better than studio cut.
Stand Alone Music Period
Another great video from Seattle, although my favorite version of this song will always be the one from the Dragon Snake bootleg in Houston---especially when Robert gets to the "And I knew you would" line... 😎
I love to hear him talk . . . . . wILL. EVERYBODY PLEASE SIT DOWN. 😢😢🎉🎉😂❤❤HI HONEY . .
3:43 … love it. Wait…I actually love ALL of it. 😊

Awesome live arrangement, thanks for sharing 👍😊✌️
Similar to the April 77 Cleveland show version on ‘Destroyer’. Both great cuts this one being longer by a couple minutes
Destroyer CD rarely leaves my car, BBC sessions live also
Pedazo de interpretación de mi canción favorita de Led Zeppelin
It's a shame that the camera only points ~1% of the time at JPJ... he's actually the mastermind behind this song and has likely one of the coolest instrument ever
Agree 100%

Thanx, great song
Pillow talk all night with his voice .lol I tell you my story you tell me yours ❤️ you go first . please whisper 🎉

I never heard . . . . HIT ME . . . before . . ❤❤Ive heard . . . . OH!! LOL SO INNOCENT ❤❤❤
Great to see some footage I haven't see before but not Zep at their best. Shame as this is one of their best songs. Jimmy's guitar sounds a tad out of tune at times and some of his solo breaks are disjointed and wandering. Even Robert whilst sounding better than he did in 74-75 is off in places. Thank God for JPJ, holding it all together.
The string of LA Forum shows in June took a lot out of the band. They really did not have nearly the same amount of it on their remaining shows. Arizona is lousy and Oakland is OK but doesn't hold a candle to the LA Forum shows.
The fucking bass line all though the outro
Jimmy was feeling it that night.
He was even better a few weeks earlier at the LA Forum
J.P. Jones! ♥️😁

Wow did u hear Robert plants voice crack . They didn't lip sync lol
Robert spent years of his life hanging out during solos

Plant sounds really bad jaja .... But in general an awesome live tune

seemed like some problem on the lowest strings for JPJ.
if only we had lyrics
Then as it was, then again it will be
And though the course may change sometimes
Rivers always reach the sea
Blind stars of fortune, each have several rays
On the wings of maybe, down in birds of prey
Kind of makes me feel sometimes, didn't have to grow
But as the eagle leaves the nest, it's got so far to go
Changes fill my time, baby, that's alright with me
In the midst I think of you, and how it used to be
Did you ever really need somebody
And really need 'em bad
Did you ever really want somebody
The best love you ever had
Do you ever remember me, baby
Did it feel so good
'Cause it was just the first time
And you knew you would
Through the eyes an' I sparkle
Senses growing keen
Taste your love along the way
See your feathers preen
Kind of makes makes me feel sometimes
Didn't have to grow
We are eagles of one nest
The nest is in our soul
Vixen in my dreams, with great surprise to me
Never thought I'd see your face
The way it used to be
Oh darlin', oh darlin'
I'm never gonna leave you
I never gonna leave

They seem tired here plus from what I heard the audience seemed like they were miles away. Band could barely see them.
Vocals were gone already. No expression. Echo trick outs by the mixer to.
