Will get a 8Core/8GPU, 16 Gb, 2 Tb 24" (Blue). Given the 2 ThunderBolt ports (each with a dedicated controller) and 2 gen 2 USB-C (10 Gb) ports, i expect a life-cycle that will match my loaded 2012 15" MacBook Pro ( hi-res anti-glare). Plus will fit nicely with my 27" ThunderBolt Display on my desk. Next year I will get my wife the anticipated 16" M1x(?). So other than a Apple SD Card Reader for her 11" iPad Pro, we will be set though my retirement other than iPhones and other accessories. Regards
@@Archmageeoffical It's a bit complicated at the moment, because it really depends on the video editing application you're using. Performance in Final Cut (or really any Apple software) is pretty fantastic. Elsewhere, it's good but not amazing. 4K playback is quite good, but exporting times are still kind of long compared to the Intel-based 27-inch iMac, or a handful of other machines. Like I said in the video, once applications like Premiere Pro are fully optimized for M1, performance will get better. If it's just something you do on the side as a hobby, I think you'll be satisfied with the performance.

I am seriously considering one of these. I plan on making simple mobile phone games and I will need a Mac for making the iOS version, although I plan on doing the programming on my PC. The question would be… How would this computer hold on through time? Apple like to use what is called planned obsolescence, perhaps 3 years? Also, this is a disposable computer. I see it would be difficult to repair if something during it life time fails. No Upgrades, you are stuck with the same config until you can afford a new one. I like the CPU but not the business model.

one thing you've omitted is the display quality... does it have HDR? how about its viewing angles... rather dwell on the bezels which should be enough that you've mentioned it once already.
I didn't like the white bezels when Apple introduced the iMac M1. But when I had one, less than a week ago, turned it on, and they were never there. Suddenly, after a couple of days, I realized about the clever thinking the design department went throug: not only white bezels go great with all the color options for the iMac, but also you won't even notice them in most enviroments, mainly because almost all spaces have white or light-colored walls. In comparison, black bezel monitors SCREAM for atention. These whites kind of melt into your surroundings.

From iFixIt - “Each fan blows inward across the logic board, where the heatsink draws heat away from the M1 with a copper heat pipe and two short heatsinks.” In addition to the extra fan, the middle and top tier M1 iMacs you also get a heat pipe.
Wow that’s technical. I assume you mean it cools down well and therefore doesn’t get forced to reduce its computer speed/functionality while doing certain tasks? I like how the lighter hued stand captures some of the color reflected off the more vibrant backs and sort of enhances and balances everything out. Still not huge on the non-metallic pastel chin. I'm okay with a chin but... it'd be nice if it had more sparkle to it.
I have seen a few other reviewers note that the chin distinguishes the iMac from other monitors. Apple could have made the computer just a little bit thicker to put the contents of the chin up behind the display but the chin makes it obviously an iMac.
I just bought one of these bad boys the other day. It's on the way from Apple. I got the $1299 version and upgraded it to 16 gig of ram. I can add more ports and storage later if I need. This will be quite the upgrade to my 10 year old PC I built.
i always though imac was a good value. not everyone is a gnarly gamer bro dude. i remember back in the day when i had my g4 imac. i was up and running while friends and family was having crashing and errors dealing with windows. im sure windows is in a lot better state in todays times
This is best iMac I have ever owned. Fast, sleek, and the colors pop...I, too, got the Orange and love it...with 16 GB RAM and 1 TB Storage...It has performed flawlessly since I received it back in June '21...I don't do any gaming or graphics...this is the best desktop for me...you techies and whiners can have your way too expensive 30 inch screens and boring space grays and silver...I'll stick with these bright, bold colors and sleek modern design with an incredible fast M1 chip...Thank you, Apple!...
At 6:56 when you start talking about benchmarks you have a film running on Premier Pro in the background. That film is a shot of the A10 dual carriageway in Enfield, UK with my local Cineworld Cinema on the corner. Yes local, you did read that right. I live 3 miles away from there in the London Borough of Enfield, UK. What are the chances?
Could you please make a video of connecting two external monitors with this iMac 24 inch? That is my dream setup but I'm not sure if using a dock would affect the performance. Please make it as soon as possible.
YES, a lot of these iMac reviewers tend to forget that most iMac users do use that space for so many things! I even have a lamp light on there along with the sticky notes.
I work on a large software development company, and devs who loves to use sticky notes like to stick them on their monitors, so Im not surprise if that chin is for sticky notes as Ive seen a LOT of users doing it.
Great video Tx. Can’t wait to get my blue 16gb 8 core version later next month. Keep the chin - it’s invaluable for stickit notes !! Always use it for this on my ‘soon to be replaced’ iMac
Thanks Luke, as always a non-prejudiced review. I am definitely interested in getting one but I have had negative experiences when buying the 1st gen of any Apple product.
I’ve always had positive experiences with apple . I’ve had iPad 1st generation ,mini, 1st gen iPad Pro and iPhone 4s and 6s which I’ve loved . But it’s the usual commercial choice to abandon updates on products/hardware that’s so frustrating. I’m physically careful with my kit so never break glass screens or trash products once cleaned they look as good as first day almost 😊 but if operating system stops being supported I’m forced to upgrade before I would naturally….which frustrating and expensive. I don’t mind purchasing new products when design changes dramatically and feels useful to me but in my own time when finances allow. I think this new iMac 24 is great fun to look at and very jolly assuming it functions well for most tasks I may purchase one. We will see 😊
my 27" imac is a sticky note champ. When I have a lot on the go the 'chin' is perfect for the sticky notes...where else to put them, it takes up most of my desk space! I admit when all is done and remove them it does look great! lol
I've never really been a fan of anything Apple has done since I started using Windows XP back in 2001 (I loved the eMacs in my elementary school), especially because of the price, but I'm seriously considering getting one of these to use alongside my Windows laptop.
It's so hard NOT to want this thing.... but, I need to wait for the more professional line up and a bigger screen. Apple are clearly on a roll. This new phase of Apple breaks the mould. Making performance cheaper and sexier. An raising the expectations for what's coming down the line. These are exciting times for home computing
Looks more peach than orange. Still don't get the colour appeal since most people will have them on a desk facing a wall. Most important question: Can the sticker fit on the chin to replace the logo? And a vote for the Post-It Notes.
Do the force cancelling speakers prevent the tabletop from vibrating? I tested mine and the tabletop starts to vibrate to the touch, when the volume is about 70% and up.
Hey!! If I want to use it just as a home PC with no heavy traffic, the new mid-spec model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage will be fine right? I already have a 1TB external hard drive to save my data. Now I am on a 2016 14-inch Windows Laptop so should I make the jump to the iMac or just buy a Windows PC/Laptop?
I currently need three ports. USB-B 2.0 (printer), USB-B Micro 3.0 (external back-up hard drive), and Apple 30-pin (ipod nano syncing). Will I be able to find three appropriate cables or will I need a dongle? Thanks for your help.
I’m am stuck trying to decide whether I should buy the 27” i9 iMac (maxed graphics) or if I should purchase the pro xdr display and m1x Mac mini or just wait for the m1x all in one desktop?? Please help, what is the best option?
Please, tell me, Ineed to change the computer to work with graphic design. Tell me, will this one cope with my task? I mean, really light 3D and basic Adobe, like photoshop, illustrator, indesign ? I have already looked through a bunch of reviews and I still didn't understand if it would fit. The version 27” is out of my budget unfortunately, but I definitely need the iMac, not the MacBook (now I’m using MacBook Air (early 2020 corei3, of course it’s too slow and simple for my aims, will iMac 24 be better?) Thanks
I agree, I Sony care for the back color. I really wish the fronts color, they seem too harsh. I particularly like the orange (peach front/orange back) and green (teal front/green back), which besides the silver, are my favorites. I'll try checking them out in person to see if like you, my opinion changes as well. Great video!
How My Mind changed? My mind is changed since Apple sends a free iMac to promote it, and I can enjoy it without paying anything. Best M1 iMac review IMO..
Wow, thanks!
not even kidding half the workplaces with macs I've been to, the Imacs bottom bars are covered in sticky notes.
Apple Designers know what they're doing. Orange, purple, and yellow do seem to be the best colors on the M1 iMacs.
I like how the lighter hued stand captures some of the color reflected off the more vibrant backs and sort of enhances and balances everything out. Still not huge on the non-metallic pastel chin. I'm okay with a chin but... it'd be nice if it had more sparkle to it.
I want a Mac for music production. Not bands, just small scale stuff in a bedroom studio, just me. Would this be suitable?
9:01 How much more beautiful the iMac 5k really is - foot, color, bezels, everything!!!
I heard the bezels are light grey? not white...
Best and most Honest Review I have seen on the new iMac. Can't wait to get my this Month in Orange!!
I have seen a few other reviewers note that the chin distinguishes the iMac from other monitors. Apple could have made the computer just a little bit thicker to put the contents of the chin up behind the display but the chin makes it obviously an iMac.
Yes, when I'm writing books it's great to be able to look down and remember what archiatyplic motif I'm trying to capture
I just bought one of these bad boys the other day. It's on the way from Apple. I got the $1299 version and upgraded it to 16 gig of ram. I can add more ports and storage later if I need. This will be quite the upgrade to my 10 year old PC I built.
Just ordered one. Thank you for sharing!!!
i always though imac was a good value. not everyone is a gnarly gamer bro dude. i remember back in the day when i had my g4 imac. i was up and running while friends and family was having crashing and errors dealing with windows. im sure windows is in a lot better state in todays times
I would feel excited, if I could afford the new system!
I think the surprise about people using sticky notes is that most jobs are not RUclips content creation.
Most jobs don’t use computers directly.
I wanted blue originally but yellow and orange are pretty fire
This is best iMac I have ever owned. Fast, sleek, and the colors pop...I, too, got the Orange and love it...with 16 GB RAM and 1 TB Storage...It has performed flawlessly since I received it back in June '21...I don't do any gaming or graphics...this is the best desktop for me...you techies and whiners can have your way too expensive 30 inch screens and boring space grays and silver...I'll stick with these bright, bold colors and sleek modern design with an incredible fast M1 chip...Thank you, Apple!...
What’s a sticky note?
At 6:56 when you start talking about benchmarks you have a film running on Premier Pro in the background. That film is a shot of the A10 dual carriageway in Enfield, UK with my local Cineworld Cinema on the corner.
Yes local, you did read that right. I live 3 miles away from there in the London Borough of Enfield, UK. What are the chances?
Is it just me or the colors look different in person compared to these review videos?
I will find out when I buy mine on June 8th (:
Great choice of orange!
Hi, Can I use this as target display as well for another system?
I just bought one online to use Microsoft word, will it be ok to use word on ?
Could you please make a video of connecting two external monitors with this iMac 24 inch? That is my dream setup but I'm not sure if using a dock would affect the performance. Please make it as soon as possible.
I will stick notes once i get this new mac
YES, a lot of these iMac reviewers tend to forget that most iMac users do use that space for so many things! I even have a lamp light on there along with the sticky notes.
I've got sticky notes on the iMac I'm watching this on
Thank you, nobody is talking about the performance
if i work on a 13 inch macbook and go to a 24inch iMac… that’s a huge increase
why they didn't make this in 27 inch is beyond me, i might have considered upgrading.
@3:37 Woah was that footage superimposed? Or just a really beautiful display?
That is not superimposed footage. The display really looks like that.
I had a similar reaction… it looks SO bright and colorful, it looked super imposed..
I''m waiting for the 32 inch model with m2
Definitely put Post-It Notes on the chin! So glad they kept the chin.
We will see
😊
my 27" imac is a sticky note champ. When I have a lot on the go the 'chin' is perfect for the sticky notes...where else to put them, it takes up most of my desk space! I admit when all is done and remove them it does look great! lol
Mine is to be delivered Nov 3-10th
Purple with 16gb ram and 2 cooling fans
I've never really been a fan of anything Apple has done since I started using Windows XP back in 2001 (I loved the eMacs in my elementary school), especially because of the price, but I'm seriously considering getting one of these to use alongside my Windows laptop.
Lmao
@@nene1964 I'm going to buy the cheapest piece of crap I can find and save a dollar or two.
We definitely put sticky notes on our iMac, funny discovering that others do too!
It's so hard NOT to want this thing.... but, I need to wait for the more professional line up and a bigger screen. Apple are clearly on a roll. This new phase of Apple breaks the mould. Making performance cheaper and sexier. An raising the expectations for what's coming down the line. These are exciting times for home computing
definitely
Is it the basic or upgraded model?(An extra $200.00)
I can’t wait to get mine :D I am getting mine on June 8th (: !!!!
Great review ... excellent points regarding the pros and cons!
Amazing video! I’d want to use it with my work laptop which is a windows pc.. not sure if that’s even do-able..
do sticky notes not stick to a bezel?
Looks more peach than orange. Still don't get the colour appeal since most people will have them on a desk facing a wall.
Most important question: Can the sticker fit on the chin to replace the logo?
And a vote for the Post-It Notes.
Do the force cancelling speakers prevent the tabletop from vibrating? I tested mine and the tabletop starts to vibrate to the touch, when the volume is about 70% and up.
I would prefer the colour on the front to be the same as the colour on the back.
Are those the Klipsch Heritage HP-3's? I'd rather have those than an imac.
Keyboard still has no backlight?
I currently need three ports. USB-B 2.0 (printer), USB-B Micro 3.0 (external back-up hard drive), and Apple 30-pin (ipod nano syncing). Will I be able to find three appropriate cables or will I need a dongle? Thanks for your help.
Great review and speed in your presentation. Good job, Luke!
Love the idea of the 'chin' for sticky notes... thanks (even if you found the use for it weird) 👍🏻
I don't know why, but those white bezels and the washed out colours on the front are enough to stop me from buying this iMac
Yes! Sticky notes are the best...
I’m am stuck trying to decide whether I should buy the 27” i9 iMac (maxed graphics) or if I should purchase the pro xdr display and m1x Mac mini or just wait for the m1x all in one desktop?? Please help, what is the best option?
love the colors
I am going to grow a ginger goatee on the Chin of my Orange iMac....and you can't stop me.
I would really like to see that
Please, tell me, Ineed to change the computer to work with graphic design.
This is an old review. Why diss it before the video software is ready for M1?? Those who waited for the updates love its power and speed.
How My Mind changed? My mind is changed since Apple sends a free iMac to promote it, and I can enjoy it without paying anything. And I can speak about several minutes of design, box design, and a little about performance. Great video, Thanks!
I would slightly laugh or smile like you if apple sends me free products too. I am happy you enjoyed making this video.
does anyone know if the apple stickers the imacs come with, will it fit on the chin??
It appears, they give you two stickers (one is the color shade on the back of the iMac and the second sticker is the color shade on the front).
@@transitengineer will the sticker fit on the chin of the imac?
if I find your comment again I'll let you know
I love that it does not have an Apple logo at the front.
