    It took me so long to realise I was suffering from ocd. When I first realised I was slow to react like “oh well i know I’m nothing ocd says so”. Watching these videos has made me a pro at dealing with ocd and I know everything about ocd now. Finally feel like I can recover rather than getting short term relief

      @@funkafan4066 I just watched a lot of these videos and ultimately every bad thought you have or every thought/feeling/urge you have that requires you to ruminate is ocd. It’s all ocd. I get thoughts related to the past but ultimately if you hate the thoughts or try to stop them you don’t want them. Keep watching videos on how to recover. Tracking really helped me because I was able to identify where I was going wrong and cut down time and compulsions. Hope this helps

    I always had features of OCD in my life but it was always manageable. Chronic stress, a drinking problem, and being overworked really set it off to become debilitating. Terrible thoughts, investigating, researching, ruminating, hyper awareness, and mental review. Pure O

    I would suggest that everyone lay careful attention to what she says about OCD going away then coming back again during a time of high stress, this is exactly what happened to me, caught me off guard for a few day until I realized what it was, I was OCD free for 13 years then a high stress time in my life brought it back, the harder you fight back the faster it goes away, I thank Ali for these videos it would have been nice to have someone like this 20 years ago, I have had moderate OCD this last month from my high stress and I am on the mends fighting back, do your ERP fight the terrifying thoughts and take away there power break the habit.

      Imagine your ocd is a phobia, how would you want to get over being afraid of the dark, sit in the dark and not react, also too I like her for the CBT, but she fails to talk about methylation and pyrrole disorder if you have either one of these which probably 90 percent of people with ocd have you are fighting an uphill battle both are easy to treat

    does watching these self help videos a form of compulsion?

    So if I’m ruminating all day right now. Does this mean I schedule time to not ruminate? Like every hour for 5 min I listen to a RUclips video. And my thoughts are so intrusive right now I’m struggling not ruminating.. I can’t “just think of something else” listening to something else helps

    Can watching videos such as this be viewed as a compulsion?

    • @mrbobajango7482
      @mrbobajango7482 3 года назад +7

      I saw another RUclips therapist answer this and he said if you're watching the video for tips, learning and advice then that's fine but if you're watching them for relief or to get a feeling then that's a sign of it becoming a compulsion. I try to watch them in moderation now because of this 👍

    • @mrbobajango7482
      @mrbobajango7482 3 года назад +5

      @@NJM1016 my best suggestion is to try and reduce the length of time you watch them. I found it helped when I stopped watching them so much and now only check in from time to time if the video seems like an interesting topic or maybe I need a refresher. It's annoying because they're very helpful but we all need to work on sitting with the discomfort and showing our brains we can handle it rather than leaning on these videos for some relief 👍
