Have never used a sewing machine before in my life, but I needed to repair a cushion cover. So I figured $20 beat the price of a new couch. I've fixed my cushion and now I feel like a pro. Thank you so much for this tutorial!!
My son got this for me over a year ago and I was totally intimidated about learning how to use a sewing machine. Your tutorial was so nice and easy to understand. I've sewn about 30 stitches and now I want an upgrade. 😂
I purchased this exact brand last year and had a hard time understanding the threading and features. Thank you so much for the tutorial! This was exactly what I needed to finally begin using it.
tnx Mom... I am 74 male, now sewed before.. I paid $17 for mine, to sew a new zipper on my tent.. I surprised myself by how good it turned out haha... I learned how to thread it by watching you... I will check the Brother out, now that i am an expert😊 N ow I will get ssome stronger nylon thread and run another stitch on each side of zipper... tnx again.
I bought mine, Ihave no idea what I'm doing but I'll learn, I'm glad I paid only 24 dollars for it and maybe I could switch to a better one in the future
I bought this sewing machine at ALDI, thankyou for showing us how to use it, I love this little machine, just wish it had zigzag stitch on it, but hey, It was only $29.95, I agree with you about the tension guide, the cotton kept coming out of the needle, I bought this machine for using on quilt pieces for slow stitching and also my paper junk journal craft. It's good for quick sewing, nothing too major. Thankyou.
Thanks much for this very helpful tutorial! I actually ordered this machine from Amazon this morning, but it will be a week before it arrives. I could kick myself for getting rid of on older model Brother machine my mom bought me for my birthday back when I was a teen in the 70s. I never sewed anything more complicated than simple polyester pull-on jumpers, pants and vests back in the day, lol. My machine had been sitting on a closet floor unused for several years, and nobody in the family wanted it, so I ended up donating it to a thrift store. I bought this Magicfly thing on a whim, primarily to take in several pairs of oversized pants that I have found in thrift stores. Hopefully, I'll be able to accomplish that once I get the machine, with these good instructions. Truthfully, I had been hoping to find an old used sewing machine but have not seen much in my local thrift stores or church rummage sales. I don't shop like I used to anyway but definitely have found well-made clothing I can take in a bit.
Thanks for the video. I just found a dusty unopened box with this little sewing machine I must have grabbed from Walmart or something for my crafts, who knows how many years ago. Mine is a no-name, slightly different than yours but threads and operates that same way. Except that the bobbin will not stay on the winder. As soon as I start the power it flies off. Even on low the machine goes fast and me trying to guide the thread back and forth immediately pops it off. Mine came already threaded with a bobbin on the front and a bobbin inside, but you showed me how to use a spool of thread. The instructions that come with mine have amusement value but are not very understandable. I can wind bobbins on my regular machine but since I'm using this for crafting, it doesn't matter if the bobbin is a different color. I was happy to find a tutorial after all this time but I guess versions of this are still being sold. I just tried stitching something and it works! So yay, a purchase I didn't even remember making pays off.
Thank you so freaking much, idk why i was stuck on the bobbin part for so long😭 I watched the tutorial the company gave on the little manual, but it didnt work for me, i needed a little more help i guess, im so glad i found this thank thank thank you😸😸😸This thing genuinely had me tweaking....
Thank you! I bought this little guy because I’m short and constantly having to hem pants I buy (and got tired of spending money on something that I recall doing easily with a machine in home ec class back in the day). Your video helped - I had to rip the stitch because the top of the hem looked neat but the bottom side looked crazy! And I was sewing it with the inside of the pants on top (if that makes sense) so I didn’t want to sew the hem when I couldn’t see it and I wanted both sides to look neat. So while I thank you for the tutorial and I feel like I got my arms around this mini machine, you’ve convinced me to upgrade to a Brother. Because despite the do over with my first hem job on this machine, I had fun! ❤
Thanks for a great tutorial. I bought this machine to mend socks and mend tears in my comforter. My dogs like to pull out the stuffing if a tear developed. Hopefully this will at least handle those needs.
Thank you for this video! I wish I watched it two years ago when I got mine. I had no idea what I was doing and broke the needle in two seconds. Maybe I'm try again or try the little brother!
Very helpful, thank you! I had the same experience that you described as a beginner. My thread kept snapping and I couldn’t get the tension discs to loosen up.
Mine also has the Magicfly label but the shape is different, more square. It has sat in my living room for over a yr, patiently waiting for me to learn😆
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I just bought this machine and the instructions weren't great. This is my first sewing machine because sewing just *scares* me. Thank you so so much for your good explanation and video
Well I got this as a machine to sew on fabric to a crocheted blanket. I'm a first time sew machine person. Not going to be able to use it like that. But I can at least use it to hem the fabric. Thanks for the tutorial. And yeah I feel that this isn't the one that will be one I stick to in the future. I want to get a better one.
I have the same exact one same exact color and the #3 for the thread I turned it first day I had it the spring popped out and it would jot go back on lol
Hi! I got a make it so, as you wish she had a secondhand store. I see where the spring is behind the bobbin, but there’s another spring in there and I kept the grill where it goes. I cannot figure out how to open the bottom where the needle is and the bobbin is in there, any help with the so appreciated 🤪
@@momdoesstuff You're welcome Mom. You were right about the brother lx 3817 sewing machine, i got it from walmart for $76.00 dollars. I actually learned to sew on it. Very easy to get the hang of it and your videos were extremely helpful enjoy your summer 💖
Thank you for this excellent educational video. I am a complete novice. I decided to learn to sow to allow myself basic functions. I purchased this machine for the price. You mentioned a Brother machine that you recommend. I did not seem to find it in you description. Would it Bo possible for you to send me the model number? This one looks like the better one, I got one, but the power button flew off & by trying to put it back it went inside & can't get it out, I'm very disappointed. It's the one with the knob for the power button.
Oh, no :( I'm sorry! This is a really hard to machine to learn on. Give a little tug to the thread that's coming out of the needle. There should be SOME resistance, but not not enough to be really hard to pull. Loosen the tension dial until you can pull it out without too much difficulty.
i had the same problem and it turned out that if i just dont thread it through the last loop (one above the needle) it works just fine. my problem was that the thread was rubbing agains the plastic and breaking but it was pretty easy to fix!
There are a lot of different names on them. This particular one is a MagicFly. If you go to Amazon.com or Walmart.com and search mini sewing machine, they will come up.

Check out a refurbished machine at your local sewing store, my first one was a White that cost me $10.00 and I sewed on that one for years, straight and zigzag. That began my passion for sewing, the machine was easy to learn to thread, and thread. I now have 10 sewing machines! Only 3 that I use consistently, the others are on display. My oldest machine is a Wilcox & Gibbs electric machine, one of the first machines that was factory produced to be electric. I works but is a chain stitch machine. The foot pedal weighs as much as the machine 😅😅😅. Thank you for your good review because it looks very complicated and hard to thread.
I keep trying to thread it, but as soon as I start sewing, the thread just does little loops and becomes undone on the fabric. I don't know what I'm doing wrong 😕

@@momdoesstuff I have a bobbin on the bottom, but my sewing needle doesn't catch it when I turn the rotator towards me :(
Ugh. You might want to try a new needle. Sometimes you get one that’s just nit perfectly straight and the thread won’t catch
How much is it
Does it have a reverse?
No, doesn’t have reverse. Your only option is to raise the presser foot, spin the fabric and sew in the opposite direction.
