    my personal take on AMS2 is that there is something going on with the differential. not only on power, but also on coasting, braking, corner entry. I find that low LSD clutch numbers (I think I use 2 on the Sauber C9) actually fixes all of the "slidey-floaty" behavior. With this setup the cars become much more prone to push understeer and coast gently. I find it much more natural, "realistic" (to me) and reliable.
    And this is valid on all cars I have tried it to.....

    About the sliding, I think I understand why cause I can make it stop when I play AMS2. Its the wheels inertia, after braking the rear wheels are 'light' so to speak and their spin is slightly under the speed youre actually traveling, if you tap the accelerator to re-sync the wheel speed to your actual speed youll find the rear grips everytime and stays solid.
    tl;dr I think the slip ratio in AMS2 is off, and you have to be more aware of wheel speed to actual speed disparity, but once you learn to tap the accelerator after heavy braking to keep the rear wheels synced, it becomes a lot more solid. Its the same physics that cause speed wobble on motorbikes if you get me
    also turn down engine resistance, its huge

    One thing ill note, live track 3.0 is SOOO good that its bad (for some things). I rarely ever do a 60x race, because the track conditions change so much and so quickly that it can be a very jarring experience even going from a cloudy > sunny setting. Rain + 60x time progression is unusable

  • @64ElMariachi
    @64ElMariachi 3 месяца назад +3

    when using rain/real weather, x10 time/weather accel is the most one should use for good results.
    the amount of rain/track wetness is directly linked to the accel, and default for each slot is 1 hour. so if it's starts to rain and its set to say x60 or sync to race, in a single minute the track could get an hours worth of water, making it unplayable and the AI unpredictable results.

    James in terms of VR i give two suggestions. If you the patience tinker with oculus debug tool and openxr toolkit to make the most of it.
    On the other hand u can easily dispatch your rift and get a 2nd hand VR with good quality, in a decente state and price. Something like a Reverb G2 or the Quest 3 (seen a lot of people selling those cheap on vinted due to not having time to use so they end up being almost new)

    AMS2 is the most immersive sim IMO (especially in VR), has great performance in terms of FPS for good looking graphics, and pretty solid AI (definitely better than AC or even ACC IMO).
    The constant sliding is the one issue that has been plaguing it's physics since the dawn of time, even though it has improved through updates.
    For this summer they have announced another big update with big tyre physics changes across all cars and more physics improvements, so I'm very hopeful for that update.

    The problem with this game is that it's a patch quilt of inconsistent AI and car physics. Seems like the devs only car about Brazilian stock cars. Parts of the game, like Superkarts, have been broken since day one. They update, but again some cars get updates, others not.
    Some combos 105 is difficult to beat, but others, like here you can go back to front at 120.

    Call me crazy, but im willing to put it on the line and actually say that AMS2 is capturing a certain aspect of driving physics other sims dont get at all, so of course it feel unrealistic. When iRacing added its new rain, its by far the most realistic rain in any sim, and people were calling it unrealistic cause it was the first time anyones actually gotten it right.
    It all comes down to slip ratio and the wheels own spinning inertia with AMS2 if you ask me, the proportions may be wrong, but this behavior is right. remember a cars wheels are never spinning at the same speed the car is going, if a FR car with new tyres is traveling down a dry road at 100MPH with a slip ratio of 8% on its tyres, the fronts are spinning at 92MPH and the Rears are driving the car forward at 108MPH. What happens when he slams on the brakes? the fronts get a bunch of weight transferred and this digs them in, theyre speed drops below 92 initially but the weight causes the wheel to grab and actually start slowing the car down, but at no point during deceleration is the body of the car actually moving through space at the rotation speed of the wheel, under braking its slightly less. For the Rears its the opposite, the suddenly go from having all the weight to having basically none, they start to slow down and go under the speed of the body of the car, they go from 108 to 91MPH and ONLY then does the car actually begin to decelerate. But when the weight returns to centre-ish as you turn in, the rears are still not synced with the actual movement speed. They will start to speed up because more weight = more grip but heres the thing, car wheels are heavy! they have their own inertia, and its the disparity between the grip/weight and the inertia of the wheel that causes a speed disparity, THIS is what causes that sliding behavior of AMS2. Once you understand it, you can conquer it. And once you conquer it, you realize it feels VERY natural and real
    tl;dr its like the wheels in AMS2 are too heavy, and dont re-sync with your actual speed when theyve had the weight taken off and then given back, but this behavior although incorrectly simulated IS a real behavior of cars, you lose the rear sometimes not because youve used too much throttle, but because you didnt use any, and the rears slowed down. Remember the rears also have the friction of the entire drive terrain fighting against their rotation too, but the fronts are just free spinning on bearings, its a lot easier for them

      Much like you, I'm expecting canons to be pointed at me: I see nothing wrong with AMS2 physics, and I've been playing racing games since Pole Position came out for the Atari 2600.
      I think the issue is, most people have gotten used to way older sims have their physics and therefore deem that to be right and anything that deviates from that is a reason to cry foul. Who's to say what is closest? Perhaps the best person would be someone that has driven several of these extensively in real life. Then when one has to take into account that a digital simulation is still just that: pixels on a screen.
      But since the internet is a portal for fools to scream their opinions, we will always have complainers.

  • @bobbaganush17
    @bobbaganush17 3 месяца назад

    yep they r fixing the sliding with the next big patch might be a few cars that will still need work but i think the formula ult gen 2 has the newest of the new physics right now the few that do. British sim drivers have the shifter on the right side, me an American put shifter on left side. when u know u know. a little shifting trick i use turn ur hand to the inside once u get past 2nd thumb down pinkie on top it holds it's weird but when ur going for 4th or 6th the hand knows where to go so much better.
