      It's often the case that one undervalues the sights and scenes of one's own country. Familiarity breeds contempt, after all!

      Familiarity breeds contempt, bollox, it doesn't breed contempt atall, it's a money thing which most british families can't afford.

    I love Oban, and know it well. My parents had a long retirement on the Isle of Mull - which you saw in the distance. So I often visited them, and for a while after their deaths I still owned their property on Mull. I always had to go through Oban, and at least once had to stay overnight, because the seas were so rough.
    You showed the ferry to Mull. Notice its large size - the seas can be formidable here.
    Did you also notice its name? An t-Eilean Muileach. That is the Scottish Gaelic ( pronounced gallic) for the Isle of Mull. As you get further north and west in the Highlands, you approach the area in which Scottish Gaelic is still spoken, the 'Gaidhealtachd'.

    I'm delighted that you've visited Oban because it's a very special place. It's just a shame you weren't staying there or nearby so you could take the half day boat trip along Loch Etive, just north of the town, where you'd have seen seals in the loch and herds of red deer on the surrounding mountains.
    Last time I did that it was June and still cold, but Blakeley's smile would have turned it to high summer ! 😊

    Hi so you have a new subscriber here because my wife and I were in Oban in early July on our way to Mull.
    Personally I love oysters and I had some from the seafood place with the menu at 4:39 in your video.
    My wife, not a fan of oysters, opted for the langoustine. Both of which were fantastic if you like that sort of thing. Anyway as a first time visitor to Oban its a really great place We had a similar length of time in Oban as you seemed to and our experience was much the same. So thanks to the good people of Oban and congratulations to you managing to get your entire family there, I thought that getting two of us there was hard enough so hats off to you.

I met a young mum travelling around Europe with her 9 month old alone, it was heartwarming & like seeing your family do the same although expensive.

    Why do Americans call it ScAtland 😂 where are you getting the A from? No hate just curious! Hope you enjoyed Oban where I live. It is beautiful but very boring for locals, nothing to do.

    • @MacandBlair
      @MacandBlair  11 месяцев назад

      Using American pronunciation, we do not pronounce Scotland with an "A." It is a hard ScOtt-land. Your Scottish accent influences how you hear American accents.

    • @sandersson2813
      @sandersson2813 8 месяцев назад

      Ha ha. How you speak doesn't affect what you hear.
      I can listen to a dozen different nationalities pronounce the very same word, yet I'll hear all differently depending how THEY say it, it's nothing to do with what my accent is.
      For example an American says Jaguar as Jag-waar, that isn't dependent on my accent interpreting it differently or that they are actually saying Jag-you-arr just because we have different accents.
      Many Americans, depending where they are from DO pronounce it Scatland, just as they may also say "axe" instead of "ask". It's not my hearing playing tricks on me.
