Very good to know. Was many many years ago when I did mine.
It's long ran out now.
I'm going to pin your comment just to help any guys that want to go thar route 😃👍👍
Did my plastering n.v.q level 2 back in 1998 when i was 20 years old got in with a Builder there he taking me on the books. I was very good doing my job i did a lot of new things in the trade it is hardwork been doing now 26 years now my right soldier is f--k now ceilings are the ones that kill you off. I use speedskim now on the pole. Easy for your self. Remember the job comes first and the customer never think about the money first thats where your work comes from customers passing your number on. And always keep the work space clean. Anyway happy plastering.
Doing clay and lime plastering for 6 years now. This video couldnt be more true. Its the very same here in germany. Youre a proper teacher in this field.
Self taught here been on sites 4 years now some weeks go better than others, gotta have a tough mindset and realise you can’t have perfection every time it’s hand applied and make sure you enjoy what you’re doing is key
Highly intelligent guy with a great soh.
It's a pleasure to watch Kirk & his art.
Great tips. I've been doing drywall for 20 years, not full time the whole time since I went to school to be an engineer. Learning to plaster is something I would really like to learn. Really enjoy your videos. Cheers 🍻
True this is literally the truth. 50 now myself same as you started as young lad with family😄. This is spot on as ever . The fact you unedited it makes this more real 👍🏻
Well done barry 🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌
Great advice for any trade. The bit bit about cleaning up in spare moments speak volume Guys as genuine as Kirk are rare gems.
I have been plastering since 19, I'm now 31. Luckily I got a chance to labour for a plaster with a couple of gangs of good plasterers. Probably took a 18months to get the speed with labouring to allow myself a chance to plaster myself. Fortunate to work on sites, domestics and cover all aspects of plastering. I say i dont like the job, but canr imagine myself doing anything else. Its a really hard job, but i am good at my job and i make a good living. Personally wouldn't recommend anyone doing the job haha
Im 37 just done a short college course for level 1 and started a level 2 NVQ course. All in all once ive finished ill have spent a year out of work trying to learn my passion. My mrs is carrying us at the minute. Im desperate to learn and become a plasterer, but i can't be out of work much longer. After October, I'll need to be earning again. Thanks for the advice Kirk ive taken it on board 👍
Real talk 💯…. iam a painter and it work exactly same mate 💯💯💯💯
I did exactly what you said learnt how to plaster on site learnt quickly then went to domestic totally different ball game felt like square one again😂
Number 1 👍🏻
Perfect way to tell all the young uns
Very well explained
Hello ,I have 13 years of experience in plasrer , and desining , I like your work ,great job
It's a bloody hard job.
Every time I’m skimming to the edge all I hear is take a bit n go in neat haha cheers Kirk
Wise words Kirk
Thanks for your advice from your years of experience
My advice for anyone who wants to become a plasterer is be an Electrician or a Plumber....... you're welcome 🤗
It's what you make of it. I like doing artsy work or ethnic design, rather than just donkey work and that pays as much.
spot on, a lot more doors open up for you if your a sparky plus much better money and easier work, I've been plastering 15 years now and had enough of this shit trade. I'm looking at a different career now, don't wanna be doing this in my 40s
I taught myself in 1991 and have been doing it ever since
Blagging it was how I did it
“Yes I have done that.. no problem” then research how to do it lol
You can still lose money if they work for free
i started at 34 been at it ten years now, i love it but it’s stressful running your own business
I hope to join your team !
Recommended book... J.B.Taylor
I started by working a school holiday for a guy. As a labourer to see how I worked out
Have read Joe Doyle’s book or done his course by any chance
And learn metal stud partitioning and dry lining
Great video Kirk , is it still worth getting into plastering with all the tape and jointing now a days
Of course there is! Plastering is always going on
Hi Kirk, whens Part 2 of the bathroom coming?
Hey mate, my wife's asking the same thing 🤣🤣
I've just floated the walls. See video before last.
Tiling and fitting suit will be after I get back from holiday now mate
Kirk would you be so kind to tell me where you bought a 14*4 inch carbon trowel. Cant find on anywhere 😟
I don't know about you but I can find them at home Depot or Ace hardware
I use a website called tool chimp, I've got a few carbon trowels from there, seem to a be a decent price. Although would recommend giving a 13" trowel a go. That extra inch saves your joints a lot of stress over time, easier to get consistent pressure across the whole trowel
That's because marshalltown lost them in mm, search for the measurements in mm and you'll find them. I'm the uk I've found them listed on Amazon but I got myself a regular sized ox trowel as the edges are broken in at the factory so you get smooth plastering straight out the box
Kirk fancy donating that extra time to me as you never use it 😂 ? Could do with extra time
Send me a pre paid envelope and I'll send some to you.
My email address is in the link in my channel description.
Hit me there and I'll send you my address
