You pay for what you get and this guy is hands down Quality at what he does!
Great work, my father started his plastering career in the early 60s, chopping horse hair to put in sand and lime .
So did I it was really heavy work then days plastering
I bet the horse was really confused.
@@deanmusgrave4644 I used to rent old house made of lath and plaster. Img....i cant believe how much horsehair. Near 50%
i love how the imperfections start to fade ones u start scraping, it must feel as good as it looks satisfying
Hi Kirk , love the vids. Been in building trade for 30 years now and been a sub contractor for 25 of those. Been on my own now for 5 years. I’m a painter not a plasterer although I do patch jobs and also dry lining and other maintenance/building work . Spit up from missus and had to move house. Well she had the house I’m now in a flat on my own 😂 I have a 6 year old girl and a 14 year old girl. Haven’t seen my 14 year old daughter for nearly 8 years now so seeing you with your daughter at work also being 14 bought a tear to my eye as I can relate to you as a self employed person but wished I could take my daughter to work. Anyway this message isn’t about that. I just want to generate new work in the village I’ve moved to. I do all the free advertising on social media but I was thinking of signing up to your plan. But wasn’t sure if it was just solely for plasterers or all trades? I’m just looking for more regular work. I do work for a couple of builders and a letting agent in the village and obviously private but that’s not enough. I know how busy you are but any feedback I would appreciate. Keep up the good work. Craig
Lovely comment mate, I can't imagine not being able to see my kids 😪
Yes my system will work for your line of work mate 👍
Fill the form out an let's just have a chat
“Took my niceness as weakness” …… I love it when fools make that mistake. Nice one marrah.
I absolutely love the vibe I get from you. From day 1 watching your videos.....I thought 'lovely fella! I wouldn't fancy pissing him off!' 🤣
Was a pleasure working with you kirk, see you on the next job🍺🍺🍺
100%❤️
Hi Kirk love the channel. I've been plastering over 20 years and unfortunately come across the odd chancer. Luckily they are few and far between. Your works spot on so don't worry about it. Some people can't be pleased no matter how hard you try.
What a lovely finished job as always. Fab video. Love watching how you do plastering/rendering, it’s like a work of art 🙌
Thank you very much!
Had it the other week.
I gave a quote then next thing she’s asking for my day rate, I said I don’t work on a day fate I quote for the job and you except it or don’t that’s it!
I didn’t get the job. Yippee😁
A lovely job as always Kirk. That was a good team of three and a good system. I feel your pain about the awkward customer, its never nice even after you have been paid. Thank you for a great video and have a great weekend.
Some people amaze me the way they behave, sounds like you handled it well mate, I always think if I was 10 years younger I’d be going through the front of your house in a JCB. Luckily customers like that are few and far between. Keep up the good work pal your vids are top!
Only just found u on here and so far love u videos pal great to see a genuine nice guy who does great quality work and I've learnt a few little tricks off u aswell
You do a job at an agreed price. You expect to be paid . Great job .Good video 👍 👍
Character building 😂 that's a positive attitude. I hope I can be more like you in that way. Love the videos and you sharing your craftsmanship
Would love to come over from Dublin and work alongside you one day mò chara
Paul. Ireland
Nice one Kirk keeping calm in the the storm it’s a learning curve and it makes you wiser keep up the great work mate awesome buddy 💪👍🏻😊
Kirk ,thanks old plasterer but great explanation on new methods."we could have been millionaires".Good luck and crack on.but we're only as good as long as we have health.Thank god✝️✝️
Absolutely brilliant channel and although Ive never met you, and you’ve never done any work for me, it’s pretty clear you do a fantastic job for a fair price, and have built up a great reputation. God there are some wankers out there.
It's the one with us all in the trades... People think they can decide when to pay/not to pay etc.. And they kicker like you had people working out prices and deciding your day rate is not on and you deserve less.. It drives you insane almost like saying here are I'll knock up a gauge and you put it on and make it look spot on😂😂 never happening.. People always feel they are getting ripped off and it's not always the way(yes u get them we all know) but you get what you pay for... Top stuff as always love the channel and your a top bloke/team 👍
details are everything mate, Great channel and fantastic tips for people starting out in this game!
Sorry to hear you met one of those guys, I repaired a roof after brushing the snow off tabbed a couple of slates, it was a few years back the customer said £40 was expensive I said go up and touch your chimney bring my cat ladder down and there's no charge,
He said I can't do that I'm not a roofer, I said that's why your paying me dummy.
Nice job, kirk 👏
And great spiders Web 🕸 in your van at the beginning lol😅😅
That's just borris the spider, keeps the flies down
Kirk. I am about 40 miles from you. Ad love to work with you just because how respectful you are. Top fella I will always watch this.
Any time
The cheek of that customer is wild!! Almost as if it was preordained with the way they started off so nice and became insufferable when it came to pay time!! Some people are just strange aren’t they! What can ya do 🤷♂️ I wonder how your old man would’ve handled them🤣
That van is tidy for a builder ,well done
Halloween props above your right eye on the visor. Same as my van😂😂😂. I've been in renovations for 30 odd years working for myself, we plaster very similar as far as how and what, I'm not a plasterer in originally carpenter\builder but find I could do anything construction very high standard. But watching you and how you deal with clients for and bad is very similar. And but of a break at end of day. Top fella love the vid and attitude towards life and work in general. If we're closer I would use you on my projects💪😧💪👍💪
Tip for next time pal , Barr it up wet, open it up early and trust me it will be ready for a scratch pad in an hour max. , get it flat whilst still fury then just come back with the scratch pad and put a finish on it. That wall where you pushed your fingers in was perfect for ibar
Yep agree give them a quote and the price stays the same either way!
So many good tips on your videos mate never seen so much detail on youtube videos. Thanks
top tip on scratching the final coat if you are doing this in winter you can do it the same day just get a small gas bottle and a touch gun this is what flat roofers use for touch on felt let it go off for 1 or 2 hours then lightly put the flame all over it do 2 meters at a time that will get the moisture out of the top coat and should be ok to do a scratch the same day saves you going back the following day i done this method years ago you only need a light flame from the gun just comes with practice get the balance right hope you like this tip
What are some folks like 🤔Bloody cheeky gits🤔🙈🤔. Glad you got what you were owed. Good idea with the text messages 👌👌
Tell me about it 🙈
Thanks liz 👌🙂
You were defo ready for a few jars tonight! 🍺🍺
Hmmmm I posted this on another vid but its ended up here! :D
Really nice review Max 👌🏼 What a stunning example 😍
Nice job bud. Cleaning is king as you say. On your reveals whatever size angles you've used use next size down stops or bells over the top at the back against the frame. You get a nice square reveal, easier to scrape back and can't crack away from frame then easier to clean against.
Love the content mate, trying to work my way through it all!
You gave me the kick up the arse to try it myself.
You tradesmen do take the piss with ya hourly rates though ;) haha
I always worked on cash on completion of the job , no cheques , no waiting days/weeks (unless it was a friend I’d worked for) but otherwise before I leave the customers property I’d want paying in cash
You need bottle of AVON skin soft spray. Keeps midges away. Spray on rub it in no more midges. Used by lots of miltary. Midges love me so i use and not had single one brother 🤝👍
Beautiful. The details make the job.
Good work I'm learning a lot of of you , I work around St Helen, Warrington, Liverpool ECT , you sound like your not too far away tbh
Ellesmere port mate
With regards to your taping / masking problem with windows I have seen people use 50mm wide pvc electrical tape to do the edges with some real good quick results
Great work mate very tidy n neat keep up great work😊
Love the way your always positive mate 👍
If he tried really hard in school, he could’ve been a plasterer too. 🤣😂👌
Spot on !
I am killed laughing at that i an a plasterer in ireland we say the oppisite should have staid going
Cracking vids mate love them, you seem like a decent bloke
Great job, and great tips, glad you got paid out, some people just try it on.
DIRTY GITS MATE ,your one of the good guys too
Nice video Kirk. Im starting that silicone render job on Tuesday but. Im half looking forward to it 1st time as you know mate. Glad you got paid mate. I was waiting 9 months to get paid customers account got cleared out.
Only just came across your channel other day and what a brilliant video that was . I'm a brickie if 35 years and have had my own business of 17 years , just myself, and recently I've had a building contractor wanting me to reduce my rate of 2 years working for him by £2-50 an hr . I have turned that down . I have customers willing to wait a year or more for my work so now back to that mainly having a bit more freedom again .
I can do all roughcast apart from k-rend but after watching that video I would be more confident now of taking it on .
Enjoy your videos very down to earth and detailed.
That’s it
You can’t please all
Of the customers I think after 45 years working fir myself you kind of get a feeling it’s gonna go pair shape mate I must admit only ever happened to me once , but Iv dodged a few Arse holes out there mate . 👍
Top quality 👌 cant complain about that job surely
Yes I've had the same with people working out materials and labour after I have given them a price,,, cheeky buggers 😮😮😂
😂😂😂😂 just watched that video .where you said if they rip you off it's cuz you leave a rough job 😂😂😂
Never used krend always parex. What’s the water ratio, hand mixing with krend? Love the channel
Been there maté you’re a top notch guy 💪
Great plasterer by the way.
question is there any reason you didn’t wet the base cote down
I was thinking that the customer who was being funny about paying you was taking your kindness for a weakness then you said it yourself about 10 seconds later, I can't believe they also tried to change the job to a day rate some people are cheeky beyond belief I had a bloke do it to me about 4 years ago it literally took me to get to the point where I turned up with a hammer & chisel & threaten to take the render back off the wall
I don't think it was about taking his kindness for weakness. It's more jealous clients who think you're making a fortune on their job. They don't realise it's hard work and materials cost a lot. I get these idiots all the time here in Melbourne Australia.
Maté totally know where your coming from I had a similar issue a good few years ago now it was doing a hall stairs and landing now I agreed a price with his wife anyway completed the job and her husband came home anyway he’s not for paying us the agreed price but she okayed it after all the bullshit I eventually got the money just goes to show people with money don’t like paying great vid tho 👍
I left school with naff all but servers my time as a plasterer back in the early 90’s unfortunately had to change trades as the plaster and the lime that used to be in it flared my skin up and caused me a lot of problems. Definitely is an art to a good plasterer for sure tho. You explain your trade very well for others also good to see someone take pride in there job and take the time to pass on there skills to others 👍👍
Kirk try putting a 10mm stopbead against the frame with the reveals mate ! I do it every time now and it makes them perfect!💁💁I’ll give you that one for the scrim trick to stop mummified fingers!👊it costs a few quid extra on the job but you won’t look back!
I like it 👌👌👌
@@Onthetrowel give me a shout out when you do it!🤪
Maybe two at the very most 😂 man of my own heart. Your videos are enjoyable to watch you’re a likeable guy and a top spread 👍🏻 my only complaint is you boys should be taking care of your lungs. You earn good money you can afford a dent comfortable
Mask 😄 Lime based products should be mixed and scratched with a mask. 😷
Fantastic video...fantastic work
This happens a lot when you get too friendly i have found. They begin to think they own you as a paid slave because you are in their home. Also top tip for yer, use mitre mate on your bead mitres pal, works great.
With me doing that, I'd have had to cover everything. But I normally have my missus following me around cleaning up after me 😂😂.
Hi Kirk, me being an arse, be careful taking your hands off the steering wheel. They'll be some twat out there who'll report ya. Take care 😊😊
You should see me when I've got MOT THE HOOPLE (all the young dudes) blasting out the radio 🤣
nice cobweb in the van dude!
Borris the spider, takes care of the flies for me
Gets yourself some Avon skin so soft for a mosquito deterrent works brill and smells nice. I wear shorts all year round and never get bitten. 👍👍👍
Spiders Webb in your van mate 😂
Brilliant buddy. Top notch.
Mate, I am in the opposite boat. Some prick quoted on a soffits and fascias replacement then plastic over on my elderly ill Mum’s house. They went there and a couple of days later all looked great. Paid them pronto as a man of my word. Week later all gutters flooded, dripping. Investigated closer and they had just slapped plastic over the rotten wood, screwed the pipes together, trod all over her flat roof which now has water flooding in…upon further investigation he has done it to other vulnerable women. Horrible, so I feel your anger/frustration, but from the other side
10:22 "Turn up at the job to find someone in a hoody nicking the lead "... 🤣🤣🤣 Nah ! it was only Kieran..
Surprised to see you at the start of the vid, applying the mix from right to left! Is that to put even wear on both sides of the trail? Think my dad used to do that, I've always found it better to work from left to right as a right hander.
He must have been a QS 😏 The old Bean counters are always at it!!!
4:00 - Is that spider web at the top left a very realistic halloween decoration? 😉
On a job residential job besides a settle traveller, im the only one working here, normally id leave some tool here (hand tools) but everything including my dust pan is going back into the van at night.
Sadly its the way it is, although this fella does seem okay and ill chat with him in the mornings.
But his mates might not be so sound.
Great work kirk
Wow lads have no idea, my dad was a plasterer and I laboured for him in the early 90s no whisks just a bike krank welded to a shaft and plenty of graft 😂
One issue I came across with not sheeting the windows up once was a small splat dripped down the glass and when it got wiped off the grit scratched the glass on a brand new window. Dug into the profit having to buy a new pane and even though we swallowed it the customer wasn't impressed. Bit of plastic masking and half an hour is cheaper than buying new glass for sure.
You can usually polish out scratches with jewlers rouge on a Dremel if the customer isn't watching. Had to do that a few times as a window fitter.
Nice video mate!
Great job mate
Confirm by text message. lol. I’d like to see that stand up in court.
Northwich is round the corner from me 😊
Some people are just not decent humans, mate. I'm glad you got paid in the end, though. On that note, when i finish a job and establish that the customer is happy, how long should i expect to wait for payment? Is it literally before we leave their driveway? Or by the end of the day/week? I'm just curious, mate.
That brickwork, omg it's horrendous. I have seen worse, by Yosser Hughes in Boys From The Black Stuff 🤣 Your work was a masterpiece.
Mate, honestly I love watching your videos, I learned loads from this video. A true tradesman who wants to do a good job, I can see and fek that arsehole about payments...
It’s just people mate you do get them. I would have done your method too Kirk 😂
Mate it’s covid.
Ever since lockdown customers have went completely batshit crazy.
Between being locked in the house, struggling for money and the cost of living now a very high % of the public are mentally unwell.
I have seen a massive difference in customers/peoples attitudes in the past 2 years
Ps get the guard back on that grinder 👀😂
Smart beeds mate
Great stuff as always 👌🏽💪🏽🙌🏼
How do , I’m a local plasterer near u in middlewich , I can tell u now , they did take your kindness as a weakness, and probably the builder was whispering in there ear , I find if u are a better trades person than the builder the try and downplay your work which is making there’s look shit , keep trucking
Have you heard of the Hartlepool one coat 😁
Hi Kirk is that kingsmead you were on that day pal?
Not even a plasterer but love the videos
Thank you mate
I have had the same problem with customers, it seems the more efficient you are the less you should be paid? I could say day rate £200 a day the job will take 3 days they'd be happy but if you did it in 1 day and ask for £600 they think your too expensive. It feels like your getting penalised for being good at your job . If you skim 100m2 in a day your not going to charge a day rate when I see spreads doing 10m2 a day for the same day rate
Is always been the thing , the better you are in terms of speed and quality! The less they want to pay you! Thats why I don’t want to ever be on an hourly!
They want you busting your balls for the same money some useless prick taking ages And talk talk talking! Leaving an Average job fo £13 an hr or whatever 🤷
Same working price for a boss, the quicker you get, the tighter they want that price! But those Kints are still charging the same! And they arse kiss the sales guys! Lobster lunches and bonus’s for all the lies and empty promises! And the job is only real! When the tradesman they think little of and want to shaft, does the job and keeps their ‘promises’
Any body should be over the moon having you in there house working for then!
That was a spanking good job, if all your work is like, on or off camera, there is no reason why a customer would try & rip you off! Shame on the customer!!
Don't think there's any mystery there Kirk... You got yourself a control freak.
My friend does property maintenance a little bit of everything....you would not believe nearly every customer he has never pays at the end of the job. Just about every single one of them take at least 3p days credit before paying invoices. Are they upset about the work or the money? No not at all they just don't want to pay! They often come back to him to do more work so it can't be the quality of the work. But isn't it amazing that they tell you how much you should be earning when they themselves have high paid jobs with 60k cars sat on the drive. Its not my business but i feel for him chasing money. No wonder many are leaving the trades....
I have come across the same situation with a guy I was doing wet wall panels for a commercial property . He seemed a lovely fellow at the beginning. He has agreed on the price beforehand in writing and yet he tried to knock down from the price halfway through the job. He told me that we are too quick and he thinks that we are making too much money that way. He wanted to offer me daily rate and he wanted to set my prices himself. 😂 I should have seen the red flag and left at this very moment but I ended up finishing the job anyways and obviously he didn’t pay. He was dodging all calls and left the country for a good few weeks. Luckily I had everything in writing and I always make photos of the end product so I was able to recover the money via court. But it was a very lengthy and annoying process. This the reason why I have stopped working for people. I am renovating my own houses and resell them after completion. I have no patience for people like him any more.
That’s what i do with my beads put a bit of tap on the corners when it is setting over night
How do you plaster a caravan ?
