Hi Kirk , love the vids. Been in building trade for 30 years now and been a sub contractor for 25 of those. Been on my own now for 5 years. I’m a painter not a plasterer although I do patch jobs and also dry lining and other maintenance/building work . Spit up from missus and had to move house. Well she had the house I’m now in a flat on my own 😂 I have a 6 year old girl and a 14 year old girl. Haven’t seen my 14 year old daughter for nearly 8 years now so seeing you with your daughter at work also being 14 bought a tear to my eye as I can relate to you as a self employed person but wished I could take my daughter to work. Anyway this message isn’t about that. I just want to generate new work in the village I’ve moved to. I do all the free advertising on social media but I was thinking of signing up to your plan. But wasn’t sure if it was just solely for plasterers or all trades? I’m just looking for more regular work. I do work for a couple of builders and a letting agent in the village and obviously private but that’s not enough. I know how busy you are but any feedback I would appreciate. Keep up the good work. Craig

It's the one with us all in the trades... People think they can decide when to pay/not to pay etc.. And they kicker like you had people working out prices and deciding your day rate is not on and you deserve less.. It drives you insane almost like saying here are I'll knock up a gauge and you put it on and make it look spot on😂😂 never happening.. People always feel they are getting ripped off and it's not always the way(yes u get them we all know) but you get what you pay for... top tip on scratching the final coat if you are doing this in winter you can do it the same day just get a small gas bottle and a touch gun this is what flat roofers use for touch on felt let it go off for 1 or 2 hours then lightly put the flame all over it do 2 meters at a time that will get the moisture out of the top coat and should be ok to do a scratch the same day saves you going back the following day i done this method years ago you only need a light flame from the gun just comes with practice get the balance right hope you like this tip

I'm a brickie if 35 years and have had my own business of 17 years , just myself, and recently I've had a building contractor wanting me to reduce my rate of 2 years working for him by £2-50 an hr . I have turned that down . I have customers willing to wait a year or more for my work so now back to that mainly having a bit more freedom again .

Investigated closer and they had just slapped plastic over the rotten wood, screwed the pipes together, trod all over her flat roof which now has water flooding in…upon further investigation he has done it to other vulnerable women. One issue I came across with not sheeting the windows up once was a small splat dripped down the glass and when it got wiped off the grit scratched the glass on a brand new window. Dug into the profit having to buy a new pane and even though we swallowed it the customer wasn't impressed. Bit of plastic masking and half an hour is cheaper than buying new glass for sure.

I have had the same problem with customers, it seems the more efficient you are the less you should be paid? I could say day rate £200 a day the job will take 3 days they'd be happy but if you did it in 1 day and ask for £600 they think your too expensive. It feels like your getting penalised for being good at your job . If you skim 100m2 in a day your not going to charge a day rate when I see spreads doing 10m2 a day for the same day rate

Is always been the thing , the better you are in terms of speed and quality! The less they want to pay you! Thats why I don’t want to ever be on an hourly!
They want you busting your balls for the same money some useless prick taking ages And talk talk talking! Leaving an Average job fo £13 an hr or whatever 🤷
Same working price for a boss, the quicker you get, the tighter they want that price! But those Kints are still charging the same! And they arse kiss the sales guys! Lobster lunches and bonus’s for all the lies and empty promises! And the job is only real! When the tradesman they think little of and want to shaft, does the job and keeps their ‘promises’

That was a spanking good job, if all your work is like, on or off camera, there is no reason why a customer would try & rip you off! Shame on the customer!!

My friend does property maintenance a little bit of everything....you would not believe nearly every customer he has never pays at the end of the job. Just about every single one of them take at least 3p days credit before paying invoices. Are they upset about the work or the money? No not at all they just don't want to pay! They often come back to him to do more work so it can't be the quality of the work. But isn't it amazing that they tell you how much you should be earning when they themselves have high paid jobs with 60k cars sat on the drive. Its not my business but i feel for him chasing money. No wonder many are leaving the trades....

I have come across the same situation with a guy I was doing wet wall panels for a commercial property . He seemed a lovely fellow at the beginning. He has agreed on the price beforehand in writing and yet he tried to knock down from the price halfway through the job. He told me that we are too quick and he thinks that we are making too much money that way. He wanted to offer me daily rate and he wanted to set my prices himself. 😂 I should have seen the red flag and left at this very moment but I ended up finishing the job anyways and obviously he didn’t pay. He was dodging all calls and left the country for a good few weeks. Luckily I had everything in writing and I always make photos of the end product so I was able to recover the money via court. But it was a very lengthy and annoying process. This the reason why I have stopped working for people. I am renovating my own houses and resell them after completion. I have no patience for people like him any more.
